Wifi and Telephone for small community!

(1/2) > >>

Stumbled across this when I was trying to think of an easy solution to have a phone and wifi in my brothers house, workshop, and my parents house since all the buildings are within 100 m of each other. This setup was pretty much all I had in mind, but was already built for me!

Cool...got me thinking

the farm...

rcampbell:
Yup, that's what I was thinking I might do with mine as well, maybe buy half a dozen of them or something.

Not sure if you stumbled across this yet, but I think it's pretty cool:

I like everything about that except that it could be easily intercepted and monitored.
I keep getting back to secure comms...now if a system like that had some transceivers mounted in strategic oaks with those solar panels up there at canopy level...and they were securable, well that would make for a nice commo system for guys on headsets working the perimeter on nods at night pulling security.

So you could do all that or

get a dog

But the comms piece is indeed nice.

Gonna get one or a few?

rcampbell:
Yeah definitely gonna get a couple, even just for comms between my house and workshop. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the ATA (analogue telephony interace) eventually turns the phone calls into VoIP (pretty sure it runs Asterisk), which I would think could (should ) be encrypted? The telephony stuff is pretty much outside my realm of expertise though.
