I believe you’re officially in snow country now Shawn…
Gonna need a snowblower or two.

My neighbor just tells me this is the largest snowfall all at once they have had in 3 years he’s been here. I said “you’re welcome, I come up here and try to build a machine shop addition and this is what you get.” Skid loader is on the agenda already…..

I could live with that. About what I get but its gone in a day or so. Guess for the view for the rest of the year it would work.

Warm rum drink would work great there!

Now we are talking.  Party this winter at Shawn’s. We can toss sleepin bags on the living room floor and if we all bring a coffee pot we should be good for a few days.  Some Smirnoff butterscotch in morning coffee is good with me

You know, the good part is it is driving distance now for many of us vs heading to the east coast.

I think and it’s still snowing we ended up at around 2’ of snow. It was enough I pulled out a step ladder and swept off the enclosed trailer.

What was wrong in that stove pipe pic?

Sam caught it (no surprise) but to me it just looks like a pipe going into the roof flange.

Male end goes down not up. I didn’t realize it until I saw the creosote running down the outside which should not happen unless it’s backwards. If male end is down then it drips back into firebox.

Yeah, Sam knew right away but guessing he’s dealt with it a lot. I always hired someone to install and clean / service it annually back in Indiana. So admittedly I know enough about it to be dangerous apparently same as guy who installed this…..

Roof flange is dented up, the metal fabricator in me said “that looks like chit and would never leave my shop that way so something is definitely not right”. According to chimney expert you leave one stove pipe joint loose so as cabin (logs shrink) the joint can slip into itself. In turn not f up that expensive piping and roof flange.

I run an expansion joint in my permanent installs.
The main reason is for ease of installation.
It also allows he freeze thaw that my place goes through.
Would have saved the ceiling peice too for this one.
I’ve only found them in double wall however so a bit of tin bashing needed to connect them in.

If you use it a lot the chimney sweep stuff is simple and cheap insurance to eliminate chimney fires.
However, upon looking at outside pics, the location and roof make it less desirable.

Went to Kalispell this morning with little trailer and picked up this 500# stove. Curt my neighbor helped me unload it up onto my covered front porch. About all we could do to get it up there with appliance dolly and two guys. Going to try and get a castered cart under it to bring it in the house early next week.

Lake creek, about 500 yards out my back door. However, for reasons I won’t delve into very deep on the interwebs I cannot get a mt st license until a couple things in Colorado get finalized. So I refuse to pay out of state fees atm. Sorry

I will concede in that case. Same for me, had to be a full time resident for a set amount of time before i wasn't paying TRIPLE for licensing.

I just got my lifetime hunting and fishing license along with my lifetime nebraska parks pass (already have the national one). It also came with all the stamps and what not for anything except exotic game.

The cost was free due to my disability status.

Looks nice.
When I replaced ours this summer used a fooor Jack running on scrap laminate.
Worked like a champ.

Copy, yeah 12/12 steel roof, I’d need a harness and tie off over the roof before I’d try that I think.

Surprised to see the manual (or what I think is the manual) sitting there. I’d figured this like axles was back of hand type knowledge for you.

Good to see your still busy after the move.

No, it’s good to have a reference for things handy. Even with axles I have several Yukon axle torque spec cards hanging around the shop. And as Tate can attest I still call him on occasion w/ stupid question of the day……

Now build out your garage like that and just move in!

OK guilty, a 289 overhaul, but if it happened before you (the reader) were actually born, then it doesn't count. I can invoke the old-guy clause that covers much!

Do you even need to plug that in until the spring thaw?

It does not, wife asked yesterday if she could use it. I said why not, she walked out and stuck at least one thing in it. Works for me…..
What’s the bear population like at your place? My first thought is them buggers getting into your freezer, but maybe not a concern.

That’s a pretty good sized population close to throw a rock and hit one type population.

Turner, it’s definitely something to consider, along with those huge wolves & mountain lions.

Finalized something else today. I’ll just leave this here below.

They are, I contacted four different manufacturers dealers. This dealer was on it, very responsive and wanted the business. One dealer never responded and other two would take a couple days to reply.

So when I went to pickup the stove I stopped to talk to JCB first. After sitting in the cab I was sold. Maintenance is simple as filters are easy access etc. In addition the single boom has a lifetime warranty on it for $300 and has 20% more steel in it that conventional dual arm setups. The visibility is over the top as well. I drove a mid framed tracked unit and it was just too large for my needs having owned one prior. At $5500 to replace tracks I didn’t want that either. The fact I use mine as a forklift more often than not made the side door the only way to go. Add to this that as of January 1st two of the three dealers conveyed to me there was going to an across the board 6% increase on all equipment.

This one is coming in from a dealer down near Bozeman. It was the only small frame wheeled unit in the state. Should see it by weeks end. I signed papers this afternoon and they are bringing me a set of 60” forks along with the 66” wide bucket. Still trying to get a price on toothed bolt in cutting edge for bucket. I’ve also decided to build the new shop myself. The only thing I plan on subcontracting out is gravel & fill hauling along with concrete. The rest I’ll do myself, so the thought process is that the money I save in labor buys the skid steer.
