No matter what you do, I've been informed that you will most likely require a tcase drop and custom driveline for freeway travel. 4.5" BDS kits are great, and I've got a guy in MI willing to take good care of you on one should you go that route. He ran the same lift w/ 33" tires for years and even ran Moab with it, so very capable and cost effective at the same time. Unlimited Off Road in MI, talk to Kevin 1-810-936-7000, tell him I sent you. If you can't get anywhere with them, talk to Rusty's off Road products in AL. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/, Rusty or Zack.

I have been authorized to give forum supporters discounts on all Yukon branded products as well. I have your lockers, spools or mini spools, whatever flavor you're looking for on that 14T. PM or email me direct, or call 1-800-347-1188 ext 5573.

I'm still not technically part of the Vendor program on Realman, wonder if I'll be banned for this... 8)

Or Nate and I have the same bad eyes. It looks warped up on the right hand side (looking at the picture perspective). too much heat on the center mount welds?

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / Re: 8 Lug hubs for a Dana 60??
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:20:54 AM »
That's a negative. The 8.5 lrg hub is technically the same as the D44. spindles are too small. externally the hubs are similar but that's where it stops. what you can do is swap a GM Dana 60 8 lug hub from 77-91, or any Dodge D60 hub from 75-93 with internal type locking hubs. (flanged hubs won't swap). You can, however, sell those Selectros online and make a few hundred bucks. I get calls regularly for replacement parts for those and they've been off the market for years.

I have chased weird noises on xj's for years. for rear rotational noises, there have been plenty of times where the wheel bearing was indeed bad, but had no movement that one would notice during a shakedown or alignment. I've also replaced the same rear wheel bearing twice only to have it turn out to be the backing plate was slightly bent in the groove where the brake drum sits. it was pinched in one spot, impossible to see without pulling the drum off, but even then it was so dirty it didn't show itself till I was being screamed at by an old lady, and put some tire chalk on the drum to see if it was touching anywhere on the plate. 30 seconds w/a pair of pliers and the problem was solved. don't overlook stupid things that you think "couldn't possibly be the cause" Ken's got some major points; and I've seen drums that are so out of round from the factory they practically hop.

My $0.02, if you're going to replace suspension components at all, get a lift kit that includes all the bushings etc and do it right once. the factory style suspension components are probably pretty close to the cost of an aftermarket lift kit, and usually of a lesser quality. if you go with the smaller lift kit, you can usually get away without the expensive transfercase drop kit, and or custom driveshafts.

Vests & Protection / Re: Ops-Gear comcealment wear
« on: January 19, 2015, 02:06:02 PM »
I like the look of the jacket a lot more, and for the PNW it's better suited than the vest. the only thing I can see that would combat sag is a tight shoulder hole in the vest, which would only look weird on their own. I know my lighter vest sags when I put my phone in it, let alone the Sig I used to carry. I can also just imagine running with the zipper open and the draw side flapping since there are no body restraints. it's a good idea, I just can't see how to make it more practical.

3108
I have spent some time in that town also...WONDERFULL any time of the year. Our daughter and her family were there for the lighting also. Lots of river rafting in the summer.
We'll be there next year again, from the 18th to the 22nd. We stay at the Bavarian Lodge if anyone in the area wants to meet up ;D

3109
Bobby,

I just realized you probably have spent some time in Germany proper; I can't vouch for authenticity on any of this stuff, but it is freaking delicious. There is also a brewery and distillery in town that do samplers: 8 4oz pours of different delicious beers (make sure and eat first or it's lights out), Washington wheat bourbons and vodkas too. We've been spending our Christmas vacation here for 10 years straight and we're not bored with it yet.

3110
Ohhhhh, nice little box there Tate.......did a lot of "Walk(er)ing" looking at pretty lights?  Schnitzel, Schpetzel and Red Cabbage?

3111
German food and music

Do tell.
Too much to list while I'm at work here, but check out the link. http://www.leavenworth.org/ the main spot we visit is the Munchen Haus, they've got a doz different sausages and at least that many different mustards. the beer is imported german or domestic mirobrew gold. Schnitzle, smoked and braised pork shanks, veal cutlets, bacon dressed potato salad red cabbage and sauerkraut of course everywhere. it's a German themed north pole looking Christmas wonderland. and I gained 7 lbs in 5 days.

3112
I spent 5 days in Leavenworth, WA at the Christmas Lighting Festival. For those of you who don't know, it's a little Bavarian themed village in the Cascade mountains. Sleigh rides, dog sleds, German food and music, goofy hats and lots and lost of people. we do the last weekend of the season in Dec and 10-15k people show up for the lights.

Just the feedback I am looking for Don, thx. So the MT OZ are radials? I thought that was the MTR?

There is a local guy who has em too, Trying to see if he can match the pricing and I get to see what I get.

I also used to bust tires and know a few tricks. Namely lube and good irons!!

Knew I liked you for a reason. Former tire jockey myself w/ uncle Les. Murphy's and the picking bars for split rims work awesome, even on the side of the freeway. If Don had a duckbill at the time of his installation he probably would have taken out the Red dog though.

3115
The trailer looks glorious! My hub tech master left you a VM yesterday. make sure you get in touch with him when you can so we can button up the front axle.

3116
missed all the DOT stuff before I responded 8). Be at peace big D; all the parts are going to sing a symphony for you in that front diff.

3117

Real bad or just not as good? Good info to know, now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I think it has a locker, but not sure. Both drums turn solid the same way where an open they normally go opposite. Looks OK inside, solid gears but a little rust as it was sitting. It will get discs.
[/quote]

you can verify by checking the od of the pilot bearing. 2.050" or 1.625". (smaller is NLA)

3118
You know, that motor and tranny is just darn purdy, the white still needs to grow on me though.

Scored a 14 bolt FF with looks like 4.11s (matches the dana 60) for just $120 yesterday.

do you know what year that housing is? ^^ 84-85 are the bad years with the small pilot bearing.

Ignorance runs rampant and does not discriminate. I'm sure JR has seen more than he cares to remember, but with my entire maternal side of the family in law enforcement up here in the pacific northwest I've heard my fair share of their stories of ignorant onlookers of ALL races haranguing them for arresting armed criminals, bank robbers, rapists and murderers solely because they were a minority.

In my prayers Nate. Keep us posted.

however with 37" tires you are starting to get into the range. 40" and bigger, definitely upgrade. But then again with upwards of 1300 ft/lbs of torque, I just might be there already.

When it doubt, go big or go home. At least that's what I've heard, I'm still stock.
I wholeheartedly believe that you will want the chromoly axles, but agree that you are not in competition and the superjoints may be more maintenance heavy than they are useful. I would get the standard chromo kit, and I do believe that you need it with your power to tire size ratio. I absolutely believe that you should keep the 3.54 gears, and that you should re-bearing/rebuild every aspect of this front diff, keeping with the theme of making sure things are how they should be, new or better. I'll send you a parts list. Check your personal email.

3123
Alright. back from Vegas/SEMA, I'm stepping in here to throw my hat in the ring. YZLD60-3-35 YK D60-F YHC70001 YP KP-001 AK D60-F ARBRDCKMA12 and YSPSP-028 are already in your possession for C-MAX and will fit nicely with the 3.54 gears that you SHOULD keep. the only thing you're short is the chromoly axle kit with 35 spline upgraded outers, YA W26028 including the SuperJoints will finish you off nicely. This combo gives you:
An air operated selectable locker built with fully forged chromoly case and internals
An air compressor that you have already installed under the bed
The front differential master overhaul kit with king pin rebuild kits and hub bearing/seal kits for both sides
Yukon Hardcore locking hubs that make the factory hubs look like toys
4340 hardened chromoly axles and 25% larger than stock competition level u/joints that are rebuildable. we're talking King of the Hammers desert racing level joints.
This is also a very handy tool: http://www.ringpinion.com/Calculators/Calc_RPM.aspx
you can click the "transmission gear ratio chart" link and bring up your trans, enter gear ratio, tire size, speed and trans ratio and get RPM at any chosen combination.
You can always get more fun stuff for C-MAX when she's ready.

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Re: ABS Issue
« on: October 30, 2014, 01:04:04 PM »
Never heard of a "reboot" on the module, but those modules go bad all of the time. The main power relay is soldered to the board inside the module when every other relay on the truck is replaceable.
Also, A bad connection at the battery(s) can cause the same issue, or even a bad battery. If voltage drops to much while cranking (below 9.5ish), the module won't wake up properly. This or a bad relay will have the same codes usually.
Ken's the guru on this stuff. I can say however that bad ground issues have caused more problems with more vehicles than I can count, and usually are ignored in favor of pricier and more complicated diagnosis. whenever I have electrical issues nowadays, the first thing I do is clean the terminals, pull the battery, and chase the ground wire back to the chassis and get out the wire brush. after doing a much better job getting to bare metal than any manufacturer, checking the wire for corrosion under the sheathing, I coat it in anti-corrosion battery grease, and hook it all back up. I would say 75% of my problems are typically solved following this method.

Build Threads / Re: Turbocharging gas V6??
« on: October 22, 2014, 10:31:53 AM »
Well, 14 bolts are everywhere, easy to find, not so expensive

The Dana 60's are different. Being a very desirable axle, they command a good price. Obviously the older king pin axles are the strongest (And most expensive) and for your 4BT, I'd think I consider a bypass on a KP Axle

Which leads you to the later unit bearing Dana 60's out of the Dodge Cummins trucks. Being a left drop they fit with a bunch more transfer cases then the rarer right drop like what is in my Square Dodge truck.

I've seen both front and rear axles out of a 2500/3500 dodge sell all day for less than a grand and sometimes half that.

Just pay attention to the gear ratio, try to get a limited slip and if you like them rear disc brakes. Me, the drums actually stop better and they never wear out, but they are not cool...
Anyhow, score those axles and a Transfer case, right drop 205 would be the bomb, then bolt it together and get someone to build some drive shafts and enjoy a truck that will out perform any 1/2 ton on the road today.

Yukon makes a unit bearing eliminator kit for the 94-99 dodge d60 front end. changes it back to 93 and older era spindles, locking hubs, chromoly axles etc. Very very nice piece. A little on the spendy side, but I know a guy ::) much stronger than the unit bearing type, easy to repair down the road with simple inner and outer Timken bearings vs often hard to source unit bearings. Heck, for 30$ or so one could have backup bearings for both sides sitting in the glove box. 2-3mpg gains and the front end livens up immensely. Now if we only could come up with a set for the chevy...

I have one and love it!  Great for food, used it for ammo, $, important papers and other loose odds and ends.  Can be used as well in your emergency med kit, bug out bag.  Really useful to organize "Fire in a Bag" by putting loose combustibles (tinder) and supplies to light it in one package.
Used mine for the "fire in a bag" too. works great on socks and drawers on long backpacking trips for saving space. would be very handy for essentials in a bug out bag. good for keeping smells in and critters out. I say as long as there is electricity it's a no brainer.

Cooter seems appropriate too, Dukes of Hazard style. Nice to have you onboard.  I spent a large majority of my youth on my cousins' dairy farm in the Snohomish river valley. Great duck and Canadian goose hunting.  Lots of sincere respect for farming. They hung on as long as they could doing things the traditional ways; working with co-ops and delivery services, small independent types. Eventually the larger corps pushed them out and they wound up selling to some company leasing land to grow trees for high end Japanese computer paper. not a lot of ducks flying into 40 acre stands of alder.

A write up on butchering large animals would be handy; when it gets to hog killin time put something up for us to learn with!

3134
Why haven't they came up with something for the front end yet? Lack of response or just think it's a non issue?
It would require a complete re-design for the aftermarket. usually 3-7 years behind the OEM manufacturers.

3135
My extensive knowledge with front IFS 4 wheel drive is limited mostly to 1500s.  My 02 Avy ripped through 13 different half CVs, some of those due to my custom fabricated suspension lift.  Once those problems were remedied, I only went through another 2 or 3 joints, but all due to extreme stress while spinning.

I knew some guys who welded the spider gears on 1500 front IFS and it tore through the aluminum housing like it was paper-mache.  Do you have the same worries with the LML front IFS?

Based on the many 4wd launches by my customers in tractor/sled pull, diesel drag racing, etc w/ some puling 1800hp+ and lack of complete detonation, I'm happy selling the eaton e locker for the front end of the 8 lug, 9.25 applications. (unfortunately they changed that once again in 2011 and if you recall during cmax's build we had a little snafu there). 6 lug, 8.25 ifs is not compatible with traction devices of any kind. their unique 4wd engage/disengage design does not allow for anything besides a fully open differential les the transfercase suffer major damage. the welded fronts you were talking about were probably the truck's version of vomiting up the bad stuff.

9.25 8 lug good, 8.25 6 lug bad.

Beat me to the point there Kid. Any time you want to give those Brittanys a work out, my Uncle has 200 acres in southeastern WA. wild draws, orchards, vineyards, and usually winter wheat or oats for forage. quail, chukkar, pheasant, dove, and waterfowl are plentiful, and there is no outside pressure, so when you kick them up, they just go to another side of the property. If it weren't so far out, that would be my hide.

Old Testament response: they were given enough warnings about the impending flood, mocked Noah and his family and at the end were lost in His wrath. Same same for Soddom and Gomorrah. Lots of warnings, lots of attempts to get them to change but with more mocking and reviling. At the end it comes down to Lot and his family as long as they are faithful, so his wife who strays from the instructions is destroyed, (pillar of salt). As sentient beings, and as Christians, we are aware of our mortality and the mortality of others. We worry for others, try to teach them and lead them to the right choices but too often we are rebuked for being "too pushy" or "too extreme", and those we have tried to help can often become our enemies drawing us into their turmoil. There may be many signs, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."Matthew 24:36

New Testament response:
Jesus, the Son of God, changed the perception and the laws that the house of Israel had held for millennia, and for that he was crucified. but he was very clear on the order of things. "Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.Mark 12;28-31.

In my opinion, the instructions are laid out clearly for me: I will do what I can for those that can't do it for themselves, but I will not jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of my family for the grasshoppers of the world. I will show them the way, but I'm not going to kick my dog out to make room for their cat if that makes sense to anyone. There is a difference between trusted friends and neighbors, who will most likely be a part of my group anyway, and strangers that are self serving and looking for freebies. 600 people can't live off my food stores, and if they were to try and take it I would defend my families lives with whatever force necessary, (our food and water is our lives) but I would also not withhold nourishment from the young or old. I would spare what I could, help where I could and move on when I had to.

I'm sure I'll be viewed as a fence rider on the subject, but I am, so that makes sense. I have not had to judiciously take a life. I have no way of knowing what would become of me, I can only say what I hope I would live up to. I believe that God would help me get through what is necessary, and to help me make the right choices at the time that they are needed. Therefore for me, a blanket statement doesn't make sense. I have to remain modular, and adaptable as water. Each and every decision has to be made quickly and correctly, or people will suffer and die. I don't welcome that moment, but I believe that I am ready for it.
