pull the case or look at the old one and see what your spline count is. if it’s 32 (should be since it’s an 80e) then source a 261/3 from a truck and let it ride.

i can say my dads ppump 12 valve/4500/205 with 37s and 4.56s in a ~6500Lb kaiser gets 17 all day. started out around 15 but was told by a fairly reputable and knowledgeable cummins pump builder that a newly built cummins will progressively get better mileage (by 30% or so) up to 50k miles. and since his motor was brand new built from top to bottom, that is tracking along about right. i didn’t believe it. but it’s there. and he drives it alittle hot in my opinion. (shifts alittle higher than i would but it’s his truck. hah)

you should have a 263 in there if it’s from an 80e. which it seems like it is. if not, get a 263 from a truck with 80e. will have 32 spline unlike the duramax 263s which are 29 spline and i believe a different bolt pattern.

if you do the 5 speed, a 241 DHD will bolt up to the 29 spline 360 as/is

if you’re doing full EMP or battery proof, a ppump 5 speed would be the option. ppumps don’t even ‘require’ a battery to run. it can be jump started down a hill and can be held on mechanically to fully eliminate any need for electronics. VEs take 12 volts to hold open fuel
shuts.  that doesn’t sound like exactly what you’re going for. but just some food for thought.

i love the idea of a 12 valve powered family vehicle. esp one that has already had all the stuff done to it along with insulated. etc. if you’re not 100% sold on the 5 speed and wanted to use the 80e bc it’s built and ready to go that’s very viable. if you did want to go with the getrag, i would still keep IFS up front for rideability and you’re not reinventing the wheel with steering and suspension on a SFA swap.

that being said, i would pay good $$ for that 205 for a pass drop specific build. you can keep the 360 and run a 2nd gen dodge tcase for driver drop

so, a couple of things sort of stand out. the spring perches on the d60 are the wrong width for the GMT800 trucks. ORD sells a 3/4 link kit for them. as does skyoff road i believe.

if you want to keep driver side drop, run a 241DHD from a second gen dodge truck. would be floor shifted. but that’s easy enough.

as for shifting the 205 if you go that route, either ford for driver drop or the factory dodge for pass if you go with the matching axle, the kit from precision only requires you to change the hump for square body trucks to clear the allison. but your truck being (could have been) factory equipped with allison, shouldn’t have an issue with clearance of the 205/shifter.

gearing is up to you. there are 4.56 in my dads kaiser with an NV4500 (.75:1 5th gear). it’ll do 75ish,  but it’s at the top of the power band. so, it depends on what you’ll mostly do with it/desired speeds and such. i’m going to 3.73 in it soon with with an AAM 11.5 for disks and (possibly) better gearing. that will be determined shortly.

the dash cluster should be semi simple to work out. adapt the sensors on the cummins to appropriate GM sending units and you’ll be good. it’s possible now that dakota digital now makes a drop in unit for your truck that has its own brain and sending units for any motor. if you want EMP proof and you’re using the 5 speed, build a fully mechanical autometer or similar setup. which is very doable for around $1k.

note.

if you want to pull the upper pan, there are 2 bolts that are ‘horizontal’ behind the flywheel. and the crank to flywheel bolts are single use bolts. so if you want to pull the pan to inspect bearings..  make sure it’s done in order. don’t want to buy $60 worth of bolts twice. hahah.

are you pulling the motor out and going through it or are these things going to be done in the truck.

if you pull it. i would do head gaskets and a head/valve job. at 300k with no tune or EGR delete i can just about guarantee the intake runners and y bride are going to look like the inside of an 18 century chimney.

LB7 pass side up pipe.
egr delete.
driver side LML manifold.
PCV reroute.

just a few things here and there.

picked up. yes. for reference.. i’m 31 and fairly fit. my dad is 52 and has physically worked his whole life. we were able to pick it up with shoulder slings and walk it about 30yds to another set of saw horses. it was about all we could do. hahah

i know a guy selling an LMM swapped burb with +07.5 denali front clip swap.

i’ll have to resend the offer. he sold it to his best friend. i won’t post the price bc i don’t want to be shot.

that said, i would lean towards a duramax swap. but that’s just me. as long as the BCM stuff all works getting one to drop in and run stand alone wouldn’t be terrible. or take it to ATL and have them do it.

passenger side needed some work. came from a wrecked truck and the airbag deployed

before

during

after

came out pretty well i think.

now i have a full interior. once the rain stops (hahah) i’ll go p
drop both fronts and the console in.

ive considered cutting up a wrecked +’15 truck to pull the clips and holes that secure the seat to the floor and weld them in the appropriate places in the ‘89 3+3 floor pan. that way they install like factory.

thoughts?

I’ve read the same about the peltier method. The newer seats don’t actually cool, they just ventilate. The cooling has to off-put the heat somewhere, and that somewhere is in to the back seat. I guess the rear passengers weren’t too keen on that.

couldn’t care less about the back seat. there’s a reason they’re in the back

and these have the back vent from what i can see.

maybe they’re not ‘18s. i wish i had a part number on the to know for sure.

Build Threads / Re: 3+3 2500
« on: May 22, 2020, 01:01:03 AM »
ive been doing some reading on these seats and it seems like the new ones utilize a peltier effect to heat and cool. like a heat pump. but liquid/gas less. i don’t know for sure. but that seems to be the consensus. so there is a blower motor that forces warm and cool air through the seat. but i can’t confirm that.

i’m glad the power works. heat would be nice. but all 3 would be AMAZING hahah

Build Threads / Re: 3+3 2500

so.. ive figured out the way to make the driver seat work. have to bypass the memory on pin 23 to allow it to work.

passenger is just hot and ground. moves all directions and to the fullest. so at least i have that.

i’ll try and see if i can get them working at some point. still a long way off. hahah.

any ideas if the motors/heaters are ground or power switched?

consumables are the glass and rust inhibitor.

i would imagine in a room or booth the dust would be almost too much to deal with. so the few thousand you saved making it stationary would be eaten up with dust collection/ventilation and control.

i know it out a hurting on those fenders. and in a hurry (granted.. i was trying to see how fast it could go..)

3.54 and that cummins are real good friends, even with 35's, but if you're pullin or climbing any hills you might want to just keep those 4.10's. what's the trans in this? Talking with Norm so much has 2200rpm at 60mph burned in my brain; if I had the trans I could run the numbers in whatever gear you want to try.

this is going to be turned by an LMM/6 speed allison 1000.

i’m thinking 4.10 and 35s will work well. esp with the double OD i the newer 1000s

..?

this axle has 3.54 in it. am i mistaken in thinking i’ll need a new carrier for 4.10..? going to get a new carrier for his 14 bolt rear (duragrip.. and his is currently 3.42) so that’s fairly simple.

truck will be running 35s so i think with the double OD from the 6 speed and 4.10 will be about right for it. it’ll have some light towing duties (guy owns a boat dealership) and he drives it 2-3 days a week currently as a 454/400.

I have that tongue lock it’s ok, mines been beat on a little and held up. They weren’t very motivated, make the chains remove able, I've seen them use those to drag a trailer off. My trailer I’m building will have both chains and tongue removable.

locks are only intended for honest ppl. and i’m hoping to very soon have it inside a building. but until then, this along with (i’ve been thinking) a concrete anchor around the axle would help too. it’s mostly going to be hooked to my truck. this is going to be for when we go out of town etc. but even then i’ll keep it locked to the truck (hopefully)
