Funny, my buddy in Tehachapi looks just like you friend in the chair and he loves his Tundra!

I went with the ICON setup because I wanted components that were engineered to work together, especially up front. It was more expensive than some of the other options but I am happy with the quality of the components and the ride quality is excellent.

That being said, the rear springs settled over an inch in the first couple of weeks, forcing me to use the airbags to keep it at the ride height it was aligned to. The only load it carried in that time was the stock wheels and tires in the bed on the way home from 4WD.

I reached out to Deaver and Alcan regarding replacement springs rather than the add-a-leaf(s) that I got from ICON.

Deaver seems to specialize in race springs with little or no load carrying capabilities.

Alcan, on the other hand, can build up what ever additional load over stock that I want.

He wasn’t driving anything green which inevitably destroys all manner of tools. So maybe there’s hope no tools were lost in the making of this lifted tundra.

No tools were harmed during the installation of this suspension system!

I have new 4" deavers for my Dmax, but need to tow so airbags will go on too.

If I ever get the garage cleaned I can rebuild the front axle!

Duane I hope you have better success with 4wheel parts than I did. I paid them to install an Eaton locker in my gasser some years ago and it grenaded in less than 2 years and I was only driving it about 7,000 Mi a year back then. Of course their “warranty” was out at that point.

I have heard those stories also; I purchased the wheels and tires from them and that’s it. I do as much work as I can myself, I just don’t have the equipment to mount and balance tires.

Charles, it likely grenaded because their install kits are chit. As Tate can attest they will match an India bearing with a South Korean race etc. Another reason to use Tate & Randy’s Ring and Pinon as they use Timken or Koyo both USA made bearings and do not mismatch junk just for the low dollar sale. On occasion I will use 4 wheel parts in a pinch for oem Dana parts and pieces but that’s it as they stock a decent amount of that in Denver.

The wheels are Method Racing model 305 in 18x9. The tires are Toyo AT III's in 285/75R18, load range E.

This caught my eye, the ARB Summit bumper. What I like about it is the full frontal coverage. I frequent areas where there are a lot of deer and sometimes antelope on the roads.

On occasion an elk or moose will be on the road; but a collision with one of these two larger animals will result in severe damage regardless which bumper you have.

The OEM bumper on my Tundra is pathetically weak, as are the bumpers on all new trucks.

One would think so, but no, just mount and balance. There was only two other trucks in the shop. I was surprised how long it took.

When I was a teenager working at a service station outside of the parks in Wyoming, we would often M&B over 100 tires in a day. In addition to tire repairs, oil changes, tune-ups, new shocks, brake jobs and pump gas. There was 3-4 of us doing it all.

Apparently the truck is now cool enough that the 15yr old felt compelled to wash it. He even waxed it. Unfortunately time ran out and only half of the wax was removed. What remains is now like concrete...

Bumpers like that are certainly nice! I have one friend who hit a deer in his Tundra.... insurance bought the new bumper. Another who hit an elk in his mini van, and my brother has hit or been hit by two deer in his tacoMa, who also now has a healthy bumper on the front.

Tire shops seem to employ people who don’t care to work hard.

I am going to get the ARB Summit bumper. I read through the instructions and it is pretty involved. I will have to modify the grille and the painted plastic below the headlights. It also looks to be MUCH easier to install a winch while doing the bumper.

I will have to select a winch. Any opinions out there?

Yep, should be easier with bumper going on. HF has some great deals right now and many give them great reviews.

I don't think you need a 12k winch, maybe 8-9k and use a pully if you need more opmf.

Winch, here’s my 2 or 3 cents worth

We have a 12k badlands on a trailer I regularly use. It works, we shortened cable so it can’t break the aluminum drum when all that cable binds up in one spot. Hard to beat for the price and would probably do everything v you need of it.

Warn, low end is China junk and several friends have tried to return them for warranty. It’s almost a joke, I won’t buy one.

I have several older warns and have picked up a couple more in the 9-12k range and they’re hard to beat. I even bought an 8274 for like $150, needs gone thru but tons of upgrades available.

I also purchased an older Ramsey 8k pto unit, it’s going on m715 and I’m rebuilding it currently.

A lot of guys out here run the smittybilt units with good luck too.

My friend Shawn forgets that I just installed the 12k badlands on my new trailer and they no longer used the aluminum drum. It's an awesome looking winch, but I've yet to use it.
The wireless/wired remote looks good also. Has a switch on the winch that activates it.
Also comes with a remote mount solenoid box if required.

Really clean package. Just hope it works as good as it looks.

Tundra wrap-up: Here are final photos of the Tundra taken as I was negotiating a trade. It was a great truck, loved just about everything except miles per gallon and towing capacity.
