So tonight I took 6 to the lake and came back home.
Trying to get this all in the bag.

I finished up all the remaking connections on the engine and turbo.
Filled the oil supply hole a few times to pre lube the bearings.
Then transferred the fender stuff to the drivers fender amd installed.

No more rust. Fit was about 95% so not bad for knock of parts. Got fuse box remounted and all the fender jazz bolted up.

Then moved to the passenger side.

Prior to anything I had to replace the antenna cable.
It all broke when removing it way back.

It’s a real treat.

It goes through here.

Into the glove box area. Chevy also says to remove the dash for this job. Stupid tech manuals…

Fished through first shot nice and easy.

All buttoned up and good to go.

Next up installed passenger fender.
It was about 85% but it’s rust free now too.

I 100% nailed the nor cal tuck.
For not even fitting up the fenders I was just under 1/4” space so should have the clearance needed for the new tires.

Looks good, is that the bumper you built?

When I had my trans done there was so much room up there. I think trans or cab is easier than the motor.

Yes that’s the bumper I built.
It needs to come off now too for a refresh.

I think can and fenders easier than trans.
Motor isn’t that bad.
I don’t have a lift and all the fancy shop stuff so motor easier for me.
Made the mistake of removing trans and t-case when I pulled donor motor.
A real pain on the ground to lift and shift around.

Hmmm….and there are days I wonder why this or that hurts….

So been a bit bit back at it sort of tonight.

I picked up a new kit of colour match raptor last time I was south.

Had to make space on my garage as temps are failing now. Has a hard frost this morning.

No before pics. Washed, sanded, degreased.

Three coats, cause one bottle wasn’t enough so the second got used up.
Pulled tape while I still could.

Nice clean lines. Colour seems better matched this kit. Will know more once it’s all assembled and on the truck.

Even though the flares caused some of my rust damage, the protection they offer beats not having them.
I couldn’t believe the rocks I was throwing at my windshield and whole truck. So yeah, they going back on.

The conditions you live/drive in up there are probably the most severe of any member on this site. Seems more like a military proving ground to me, and I had two of them nearby where I grew up.

It’s definitely hard on stuff for sure.
This truck has very much treated me well.

In fact the POR15 is chipped in places already.
I’ll be spot addressing some of it and leaving some as it’s a never ending battle for me.

Once I confirm a better colour match I’ll be doing the rockers and maybe a bit more outside flare territory. Unsure as I only have 2 bottles left and I seem to put it on thick. Lol.

I also have the ugly as all get up running boards on the other truck.
Frankly I don’t really care how ugly they are.
HH6 is struggling since keeping the rear at a proper height to get in.
So they will go in as well.
This adds more stone protection as an added bonus.

Maybe bed liner over the por15 as a cushion? Por is a coating not really made for abuse.

X2
Was kinda thinking the same thing. POR15=Rust encapsulation, whereas, Bed Liner materials=Protective/impact resistant surfaces protecting a substrate.

May have to. But won’t be this year now likely.
Time will tell but I don’t see her coming off soon.

Well, been busy with too much.

Just started a big upgrade project at work Monday. This is almost in the coast phase for me now.

Been milling cedar to make chairs. Cedar came from huge 80-100 foot power poles. Buddy got them. I helped him mill some of it for boards and scrap. Into the scrap slabs and getting lots of 1X out of it.

Picking and packing stuff to move south to the retirement villa.

Oh yeah, and this darned truck…

No wonder I’m wore flat out some days.

Anyhow. Got to the tailgate assembling a couple nights ago.

All new GM original parts for latches and handle this time.

Did the 80 dollar or whatever kit from Rock Auto and it’s done after only a couple years. As in the gate randomly falls open and is a giant pain to get latched.

Had some sticking issues so hopefully 48 hrs in clamps will fix that.
I’m re-using a real beat gate cap as I didn’t feel 1k to ship a new one was on the realm of reasonable.
So I think there may have still been some degreaser or old tape residue. Tape stuck like crazy to the new paint.

So my next distraction was a bent 6000# axle on my trailer.
Brought it out to work as my driveway is still overloaded.
Here is what’s left of the u-bolts after a few miles. Not sure how many 10-15k I’d wager. The gravel roads just eat ‘em up.

And with a proper weld shop you can easy button the spring pads.
Slid back in and a bearing repack and brake reinstall.

A couple trips ago I found the short in my wiring.
It lived inside the trailer junction box. Hidden by a total coating of calcium infused road dust and rainwater.
Here is the transfer to a new box.

Oh yeah.
Here’s me DOR’ing my own thread.

The roots run deep I suppose.

Back to the truck.

New gate installed.
It latches the first try now. And didn’t fall open either.
It seems I forgot to take pics of the rear flares so I’ll get there eventually.

They are on. Tailgate used up 11 odd feet of two sided tape destined for the flares. Functioning gate over flares. I can get more tape next trip out.

Tore the 80’s running boards off the donor.
They’ll save some stone chips.

More to come.

That rear bumper looks nasty. Seems you never run out of repair work.

Time and stone chips have got the best of both of them.
2016 I built the rear.
Loads of miles with trailer.

But yes, on the list to redo too…as is the front.
