This place is a lot like being at church at times...

And Church is the place we worship

And worship starts with music and singing

That springs forth from a joyous heart...

So, let's do music to celebrate and honor our Lord and Savior

(Cool idea isn't it!)

The emailed lists sounds like a good idea. I strongly considered not adding my phone number, as I've never done that before on a public forum. However, I like this site so much, and the people here from what I can tell, that I wanted to be available of someone really needed me.

Exactly...The 1/2" electrical plastic conduit straps work well, but you need to use a flat head screw or roofing nail to retain and not pull through the hole

OK fellas, we're off and running. I started by shopping them each a color full sized adventure bible. I scored them at a 20% discount and ended up paying $45 and change for the two of them. I purchased my middle son one years ago and before he retired it, he had read the entire thing almost 3 1/2 times!

I then went to Burlington coat factory. I was shopping a coat each and called my wife to get their sized. Kathy told me to step back away from the little girls clothes rack and no one gets hurt! She's a capable woman and I bought her three handguns in as many years. Remember, she's the one that shot up an entire 1,000 round of 9mm 124 gr during one six month stint I had in the Stan...

I am by no means finished. I am going to get some art supplies for Bella tomorrow, as she loves to draw. Not sure yet what sort of a "Toy" I may get for either of them, but I heed to put something like a $50 or $100 gift card for Krogers in there so they can get some food. I'm not letting Kathy kick me away from the coats just yet, I have some fight in me still.

I'll keep everyone posted and take some pics of the presents before I ship them out

This is fun!

Rogue electors brief Clinton camp on anti-Trump plan
Kasich emerges as the group's alternative Electoral College pick.
By KYLE CHENEY and GABRIEL DEBENEDETTI 12/05/16 12:05 PM EST

Advocates of the long-shot bid to turn the Electoral College against Donald Trump have been in contact with close allies of Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, but the Clinton camp — and Clinton herself — have declined to weigh in on the merits of the plan.

Clinton’s team and the Democratic National Committee have steadfastly refused to endorse the efforts spearheaded by a group of electors in Colorado and Washington state. But, as with the ongoing recounts initiated by Green Party nominee Jill Stein, the Clinton team has not categorically rejected them, leaving the collection of mainly Democratic electors to push forward with no explicit public support from the failed Democratic nominee or any other prominent party leaders.

In a sign of the sensitivity of the issue, former Clinton campaign officials declined repeated requests to comment on the Electoral College effort. DNC officials also have not responded to requests for comment.

The Clinton camp’s silence follows its cautious approach to another long-shot effort to deny Trump the presidency: the last-minute recount efforts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan launched by Stein. Stein’s aggressive push has annoyed Clinton aides but has also not drawn their outward condemnation — Clinton’s top campaign lawyer, Marc Elias, said in carefully chosen language Nov. 26 that the campaign will “participate” in the recounts, without expanding on its plans to get involved.

“Regardless of the potential to change the outcome in any of the states, we feel it is important, on principle, to ensure our campaign is legally represented in any court proceedings and represented on the ground in order to monitor the recount process itself,” wrote Elias.

The electors leading the anti-Trump push say they’re operating without regard to the Clinton campaign’s views and without its assistance. To some leaders of the anti-Trump effort, the lack of formal Democratic Party engagement is an asset as they attempt to woo Republicans.

“We’re really doing this on our own,” said Polly Baca, a Democratic elector from Colorado and organizer of “Hamilton Electors,” the group encouraging Republican defections from Trump. “This is something we have to do as electors. This is our responsibility.”

But Clinton will not be able to avoid getting drawn into the Electoral College machinations. That’s because her husband — former President Bill Clinton — is a Democratic elector from New York. Aides to the former president have declined repeated requests for comment on whether he intends to fulfill the role or pass it to an alternate when New York’s Electoral College members convene in Albany on Dec. 19. Baca has indicated that she intends to reach out to all electors — including Clinton — for support.

Another leader of the Hamilton Electors group, Colorado elector Micheal Baca (no relation to Polly), said the group’s outreach efforts are wide-ranging.

“Given what’s at stake, we have been outreaching to everyone we can including electors, various members of both parties, and the media,” he said. “One of the most inspiring things about this entire process is how we have encountered such patriotism from both sides of the aisle and much willingness to unite for America.”

Backers of Hamilton Electors are also preparing a wave of lawsuits challenging 29 state laws that purport to bind electors to the results of the statewide popular vote. These laws have never been enforced or tested, and many constitutional scholars believe they conflict with the Founders’ vision of the Electoral College as a deliberative body. Courtroom victories, they hope, will embolden other electors to join their cause.

All 538 members of the Electoral College will meet on Dec. 19 in their respective state capitals to cast the formal vote for president. Trump won the popular vote in states that constitute 306 electors — easily above the 270-vote threshold he needs to become president if all Republican electors support him. That’s why anti-Trump electors are working to persuade at least 37 Republican electors to ditch Trump, the minimum they’d need to prevent his election, and join them in support of a compromise candidate, which could send the final decision to the House of Representatives. Clinton won the popular vote in states that include a total of 232 electors. As of Monday, she led in the popular vote nationwide by more than 2.6 million votes.

At least eight Democratic electors are promising to defect from Clinton and support a Republican alternative to Trump.

While Trump’s lawyers have been working to stymie the recounts, his campaign has paid little attention to the Electoral College initiative. The same is true of the Clinton camp. Clinton would need all three recounts to overturn the Election Day results to get to 270 electoral votes — an extremely unlikely scenario.

Recounts aside, there’s little incentive for the Clinton camp to become involved with the anti-Trump effort because it can result only in detracting from her electoral vote total. The only reason to engage at all would be to support an effort to deny Trump an Electoral College majority.

The Democratic electors have already revealed that they’re close to a consensus pick for whom they will vote: Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Kasich is increasingly seen as the most acceptable Republican alternative to electors on both sides of the aisle, according to multiple electors familiar with the conversations. They note that Kasich defeated Trump in Ohio's primary, that the governor boasts a high approval rating in his state and that Kasich was reportedly under consideration to be Trump's vice president before he selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

“Many Electors are saying that Gov. John Kasich would be best for our country. A consensus is beginning to form that Gov. Kasich would be best positioned to unite America,” Micheal Baca said in a statement to Politico on Sunday. Other electors involved in the effort confirmed this line of thinking.

It’s unclear whether Kasich would accept support from these electors, and a top political adviser downplayed the strategy.

“There’s no question Trump won enough votes in the states to receive over 270 votes when the members of the Electoral College meet,” said Kasich’s top political adviser, John Weaver, when asked about the prospect that some electors might vote for Kasich. “I’m sure the [Electoral College] will affirm this when it gathers later this month.”

Even if no Republicans join the recalcitrant Democrats, eight defections from Clinton would represent more “faithless electors” — members who don’t vote for their party’s designated presidential candidate — than at any time in American history. Leaders of the effort claim at least one firm commitment from a Republican elector, though none has spoken out publicly.

Mikey,

I think, that being on the AR platform and knowing the 7.62 and the 5.56, I want to say do it the same as your 5.56 gun (Which is one sweet shooting mill btw)

Inside 250, maybe a bit beyond, don't the bullets have strikingly similiar ballistics? So the 25 meter zero, then aim 2" low at 100 meters and dead on at 250 seems like it would fit your .30 cal gun as well.

We've been super happy with our '13 ranger so far.  Would definitely consider looking at the new version of it if I were in the market.  It has been more capable that I expected.  Also would look at the Polaris General.  I don't have much personal experience, but a friend at work is looking at them and described it as halfway between the more utilty based ranger and the performance based razor (or rzr?).

Keep in mind that the #1 selling feature for us turned out to be the angle and overall squishiness of the seats.  Since it is primarily driven by my wife, she sat in all of them and instantly proclaimed the razor to be a no-go due to the stiff and uncomfortable seats.  I tried to explain the they hold you in better and it would be more fun, but she was having none of it.  She basically wanted a sofa that she could drive around while wearing shorts and flip flops.  The ranger was the most comfortable and easiest to get in and out of.  You may want to at least consider that in part of your decision making if you expect her to actually drive it.
Oh, that's right, she will be driving it...sort of forgot that... ;-))

I'm in. No kid should be without on Christmas. Will donate tonight after speaking with my wife.

Each year we adopt a family, getting gifts for kids... my wife and I, and my sister do it together. We would much rather do that than buy gifts for each other. As you say, Lord knows we have 2 of everything we need, and much more that we simply want. Least we can do is make some kids' Christmas joyful.

Copy that, and you are so right

Giving to disadvantaged is SO MUCH BETTER than getting a physical gift.  8)

What people don't understand is that the feeling and satisfaction you get from knowing you did something right and selfless is really one of the best gifts you can get. I'll take that, along with a good cup of joe, and settle for that on any future Christmas.

I am using that kit in my garage.

Definitely don't want to rain on any parades, but that thing does not want to get straight. It is some sort of stiff vinyl and to this day wants to return to its coiled shape. Mine pulls off the wall routinely!

Be careful uncoiling it, as it will kink and tear easily. Next time i am going to purchase the straight blue tubing stuff which is considerably more money, but it looks much neater.

I'd suggest warming it up prior to laying it out. Clamp it like every 16" if you can...

Don,

That does bring a lump in your throat and you are right... most of us have much more than we could ask for.

The other end of that spectrum is where I was last night. A black tie "Holly Ball" fund raiser for the local hospital hospice program. Very worthwhile program and so touching what they do for end of life and their family's. Almost 4000 people and they raised over $880,000.00 during the evening with other donations still coming in. I spoke to one of the people that have been involved for a long time and they have raised so much money over the years they had to expand to other areas beside hospice.

All good... but when you hear of the family in your story it raises the question as to how to get support to them.

Thanks for bringing this family to our attention.

God Bless

Hospice at Christmas time. What a sobering thought...

I don't like to think about death during Christmas, but it is still happening. Folks everywhere are going through their last days during the Christmas time.

I never go a single Christmas without remembering Baghdad, Christmas day, 2005. I was sitting outside the hangar next to my bird...I was first up. The explosion rocked the building, it was a big one. I got in and fired up the aircraft. We were supposed to get on top of whatever just happened and provide some gun support while the ground guys sorted through stuff. It was an M1 Abrams tank. They blew it apart over on Canal street. Killed all our guys...

After I landed back at Washington LZ, near the US Embassy, I realized it was early morning. I'd make it, if memory serves me correctly, maybe 9AM, possibly earlier...

That's significant. Iraq is what, 8 or 9 hours ahead of the east coast. In those eight hours the death notifications would work their way through channels and about the time some families were opening their presents, an officer in uniform would be knocking on their door...What an awful Christmas...

I'll admit it, I wept at the thought, and it haunts me to this day.

Had a thought, rather more to the point, my wife had a thought and shared it with me.

Someone here stepped up and donated $200 which is awesome. Another member wrote me saying they were in a position to help. I wrote him back, telling him about the pay-pal donation tab we have in this section somewhere...But to pray about it first and just do whatever God tells them to do which might include doing nothing at all. That's not my lane...

But Don thinks like this: If you want to help, then just send money and I will spend all of it plus whatever else is needed to take care of this need. You see, I trust myself completely, that I will always take all of the money and spend it on whatever we decided to spend it on. It never occurred to me that someone may not be comfortable with that...my bad

In this modern day world of scammers and bad people, this might look like just that, some scam. So, Miss Kathy told me to correct what I said and amend it to say, you could send an age appropriate gift or gift card instead of money if you so preferred. Wow...never thought of that...What can I say, I'm only a crusty old pilot, and apparently not very smart. I just know myself and never think anything negative when God is busy doing his thing and I am involved.

So if you feel so moved, and please feel no pressure at all, I will do this myself and get it done, I am sure of that. If you feel like getting involved and want to send something tangible, PM me or email me and I'll give you my address or Sadie's or Bella's address. (I guess I can give out their addresses...legally speaking...can't I???) Well if I'm not allowed to give out their addresses, and I do, and the authorities show up at the door, and the web site goes silent for a time. If that happens, I guess I'll just do what Paul did and use the jail time to witness to everyone there! See, there's always an up-side!

james and dave, I got you guys updated.

don, what you are asking for is not possible at this time, because this site is going thru a host and we do not have the authority to re-write their script (software).  in order to accomplish what you are asking, we would have to be our own completely autonomous site with a dedicated code writer.

now, what we can do if folks want to weigh in on this is,

1. I can compile a spread sheet with folks contact info, and it can be shared with folks requesting it and the only info it would contain would be the info that people have given consent to be shared..........?

2.  I can compile a spread sheet with folks contact info, and share specific info of the people being sought as long as I would have their specific consent to do so..........?

3. suggestions / guidance

Well, my first instinct is to fire ya! ;-)

But since what I was asking really can't be done (I didn't know that...After all, I'm just a house wife, remember?) I guess I'll just have to let this one slide...

So, no further action required

Faith Discussion / I just want to Pray...
« on: December 04, 2016, 10:24:58 PM »
Father God, my heart is all twisted up over learning about yet another couple families who have almost nothing. Father I know you love them, and you placed the love that Jesus has for them and others in my heart too. I thank you for that, because it grounds me. It shows me just how blessed I am. It gives me a chance to turn my faith and love for you into works. I refuse to pray for a man's hunger when all I need to do is to feed him.

But why the children? The least of us...It somehow just doesn't seem fair. But I have seen this thing all over the world in the many places which you have sent me. Father I thank you so much for heaven, because life on earth for so-so many is not very easy or good. I know you love all your people, and I know there is a reason for everything that goes on. But I just can't reconcile me having a warm bed and a full stomach while an innocent child does not.

I guess, Father all I can do is to feel what you have placed in me and act on that. Father, place this feeling in the hearts of millions. Make all your people sensitive to those who have little. Make your faith come alive with millions of acts of kindness and concern for our fellow man. Let us not be self absorbed or cavalier, but let our hearts burn with desire to do something for these people. Father please don't let us off the hook until we demonstrate that we are the hands and feet, and mouthpieces for Jesus himself.

And Father, please, never take this feeling away from me or other believers. Please don't allow us to take a single bite without thinking and wondering about those who are hungry. Don't let us pull a warm blanket over our body without feeling something for someone somewhere who is cold tonight. Don't allow us to have nice, comfortable, suburban lives without doing something to feed the need of the least of yours.

And there are two little girls Father God. You know who they are. Bless them and keep them from harm and out of Satan's snare which hovers close by. Do not allow any evil to touch them, in the name of Jesus, I humbly ask this...Amen

I'm making a decision here. I'm choosing who Real Man will support for Christmas this year.

This has been a bit of a struggle for me because the individuals which God has clearly placed in my/our way are just regular Americans. Not refugees, not homeless, not sick, but other than the "Nots" I listed, they don't have very much at all.

The reason I decided, or rather why I struggled with doing something for them, is that it places my wife in a difficult position. She is the manager of the community where these people live. If we openly supported them, then it would create a situation where the property manager openly favored some of the residents, and that crosses lines.

But know what? When I tell you about these people, you'll know why I'm doing this and why they are the right picks. Sadie, a 10 year old 5th grader, and Bella, an eleven year old 6th grader dont have moms. Well with the exception of my wife who spends every moment she can with them, these girls have no adult female being a positive influence on them. THey both live with their dads in small apartments. Neither of these girls ever get much or anything for Christmas, not even a good meal. They have virtually no family support, and they are just barely scraping by.

Last week my wife told me that since the two girls hang around in her office from the time they get home from school, until my Frau leaves, my wife started paying them to do simple chores. Last week, she gave each of the girls $5 to deliver notices to the various apartments. The next day, Kat asked them what they did with the money. Each girl gave it to their dads, who immediately spent it on some food.

Now I don't know about you, but that just tears me up. I have two of everything and a big old house with food spoiling in the frig. Those kids don't always eat! Kat has to visit the apartments on a more or less routine basis to check condition and for needed repairs. Once she stayed and helped one of the girls make up her room more nicely. She couldn't find any sheets. Speaking to her father later, she asked where the sheets were. He told my wife that he didn't have any, but that he was going to get some just as soon as he could.

No sheets...

Speaking to the girls about Christmas, they were dismissive. It turns out that they do not get anything, any presents for Christmas. Bella said "Dad gets me something when he gets his income tax check...

No Christmas gifts...

Well to heck with that. I am going to pick the whole thing up, help or not. I WILL NOT let this happen right under my nose. Faith without works is dead...And my spirit is very much alive over these little girls.

I mean, this just tears me up...I feel wrong sitting in this big house knowing they have nothing...

I'm not asking for anything, God can provide the money. I just wanted to share this story which I'll bet is going on in every city. I can't get em' all, but I can get these four folks covered, and Real Man will cover them this year.

I plan to buy them bedding, coats, some clothes, some toiletries, and some Kroger gift cards. I think I'll finish it off with a gift card to a bowling alley, or movie theater, and a gift certificate for a decent restaurant where they can eat Christmas dinner...Or maybe I'll have them over our house for Christmas if I can figure out how to do that without my wife having charges filed against her or getting her fired

Isn't Mark Cuban, Croatian as well?

Mark Cuban was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father, Norton Cuban, was an automobile upholsterer and Mark has described his mother, Shirley, as someone with "a different job or different career goal every other week."He grew up in the suburb of Mount Lebanon, in a Jewish working-class family. His paternal grandfather changed the family name from "Chabenisky" to "Cuban" after his family emigrated from Russia through Ellis Island. His maternal grandparents, who were also Jewish, came from Romania.Cuban's first step into the business world occurred at age 12, when he sold garbage bags to pay for a pair of expensive basketball shoes.

Given his liberal bent, I'm glad he's not.  My buddy escaped communism under Marshall Tito in 1976 and came to America.  Declared asylum and ultimately started his own telecom business.  Great American who loves this country more than most native born Americans.

I have a plan in place to purchase that whole farm along with the other two that touches my place. If I can pull it off. I'll be up to 450 acres and control the access from all directions.

If you go with block walls you have to stagger the seams. Im no brick layer but I worked for one in high school. Hardly makes me an expert in the field. The old guy said you always stagger the seams. No rebar either. We stuck rebar in the footing every so far I don't remember every 3 foot or so. About 6 inches sticking out. The first course was filled with concrete then after that just start building.

My house is poured walls. I like that. Put up the forms, brace it up, pump in concrete done. You are out in the boonies but you would be surprised where they can get into with the pump truck. Of course it takes money. If you are mixing your own concrete that's not an option.
Yea, my way-too-big house has poured walls as well...10 foot basement height!

THey told me they poured 70 yards of crete just in the footers and walls. Probably that much more for the floors everywhere!

Maybe poor his own blocks?

Make a mold you can fill with 1 mixer batch.

Just think of all the uses and good Pre Ranger training.
My first thought is: Something else for me to build crooked!

still no comment on the big lego type concrete blocks don..........?
Not for this project Mr. Nate.

It's just a simple walkout thing, Poured-solid blocks with rebar should do the trick

Hey, I need another side by side...Possibly a Christmas gift for my pretty Misses. My old 825I gator was not fast, only did like 44 MPH. I want something with a lot more power, but not insane. And I want a work box for doing stuff like you did in the pic. Firewood, stones, kids, dead deer, whatever. What should I be looking at?

And, yes, house killin' time is fast approaching...

Wish I had my old M60A1... That thing would make very quick work of that structure.

Always wanted to stick the gun tube inside a building then squeeze off a round. I bet the muzzle blast would send that house into a million pieces...How cool would that be?

Here are the four posts for the shooting bench for Henderson Range. I'll have the pre-rangers strip off the bark from those cedar posts, then I'll add a roof and a bench. I can see the boyz playing in there more than serious shooting, but what the heck, it's their place and time to explore and grow.

The Chevy is really performing well. It had every opportunity to get stuck this (wet) weekend, but it didn't even spin a wheel. That Grizzly Locker that I got from Tate and Randy's ring and pinion is one outstanding piece of metal magic!

I managed 18.2 on the trip down and 19.2 on the trip back!!!!

I ran out of full panels at this point. I'll pick up maybe 3-4 more to finish the south side and wrap the north side "Kitchen" slide-out

Yes, its crooked...

Paint covers all...

So if you see the dark gray on the lower side of the  camper, I plan to use that color to paint the pink stuff that Shawn likes so much.

Then the gap between the two slides...

Going up the west side, which sees the majority of the wind, I cut in the foam board around the window

I created a drip rail on each overhang to keep the driving rain away from the insides of the now insulated area
