I’ll be cutting the garage struts down and attaching them to the bottom of the structure after floor joists but that’s it

As for garage size. No such thing as big enough.   I wish I had space like Ken to keep pouring pads and adding on

I’ve only got 6000 sqft of garage and wish I had more. Worst part of mine is that the ceiling in most of it is only 8 ft, so it feels a little claustrophobic. But we all have our crosses to bear, I guess.

I can report that the wife mid 50's and me mid some more, are now reducing stuff. Feels nice. Space opening up all the time. Not 3-4 deep on two many things now. We are at the end of having the house painted, and with each room, the shedding of junk happens. Girls are making sorties in and out of here claiming this and that. Happy to see it go.
I can't say i know why we build in so much space over our lives only to downsize it later. Some sort of crazy normal for people I'd guess.

Moving everything into the enclosed where we moved and left if for a year plus. Taught us what we needed and didn’t need.

Learning experience for sure

Pressure washed off the skid tracks in the driveway
And put some clear sealer on the drive after, onyx clear is the product. Kind of old but I got it for free, it was an awesome product ten years ago

I did get two rows of sheeting on,   I cut down the garage door parts.  Next I need to wire it back up in a non pain in the butt manner.

Then sheet the rest

Need to figure out something, I don’t want wires hanging but powering the garage will look ugly unless I crawl into the attic and insulation

That insulation is 2-3 feet thick blown in.   Not a good time of year to be up there,

Can you fish up the wall from an outlet below the mezzanine?

I have power here at the grey box mid wall.  I could see if there is power above it in the attic.   But I assume they ran that horizontally and to go up I’d be going through floor joists that won’t be fun

Morning progress, stopping point until I get rail material and one of my framer buddies to help me see how short I can make my steps.

The garage brackets removed easy enough.  Just need to do the other things mentioned

Going to lay out my shelf spaces and see what’s left.

Just run the wire over to the wall and down. Good enough for now.

Should be able to cut in an old work duplex box directly above that grey box and fish down to it. If you run into blocking you can get a long flexible drill bit like this

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-3-4-in-x-72-in-Flex-Auger-Bit-53751/203872163

They make a handle that cradles it and makes it turn 90 degrees

I just chalked out lines for my shelves

I have a center isle 8’7.   Think I’ll run the wires straight through the floor in a pipe,  the middle of a work bench that is 3 feet wide

I think maybe three feet is tight for the walk way. Maybe put it down to 2 1/2 feet bench for more walk way

I’d go with 18 inch on the shelf to get the walkway you need. Keep the bench as is. IMHO.

Just do a surface mount conduit. They have starter boxes that you use at the original outlet, and 90* corners etc.

Then you can zip tie a piece of cat5 to the outside of it for the door controls.

Charles, I am planning on using the existing racks I already have.  I plan on seeing how much of the shelf I need
And maybe removing some racks

I have these and plan on cutting them down in height

Now I look at the corner and see the things rolled in like a lawnmower, quad, Rotherham things that belong in a trailer or a shed I don’t have.   Next project I guess.

Still need stairs and mommas garage door powered

Built in stair for sure.  Just off the landing existing.  Maybe five stairs is all,  need some other framing experienced mind to cut em, I never get it right and I also want to look at some suspended flooring options To.

Soon enough

Nice.  What are you doing with that area to the left of the stairs?  Flooring that too?

That’s the plan.   I’ll hanger the 2x8’s off the doubled 2x8 header.  Sheet it and hand rail also.  Maybe leave that side open for air and maybe large things to fit upstairs.

But flooring for sure

My grandparents had something similar. They made the handrail/wall removable so you can still keep it safe when not loading things. Something as easy as gate hinges and latches.

Dave, from the cheap seats and because I’m too lazy to look up the tables, are you sure doubling that 2x8 on that span is sufficient?  Maybe triple it?

Added some floor joists and sheeted the floor. I took some scrap and boxed off the stair way hole so kids can’t get shoved off.

Now to build the hand rail.    Still debating on running studs to the ceiling with a four inch spacing or.... half wall

Next on the weekend todo list is winterize the sprinkler system

I like the compressed air method, there is a fitting on amazon that allows a air chuck to connect directly to a hose bib.   You fill the air tank, open the valve to the bib then open the desired sprinkler valve air forces water out and eliminates the freezing water in the lines

Back flow valve?  To my understanding is the back flow valves are usually when they yard is watered with the same water as drinkable.
We have two culinary and secondary water

Roger.  I would think they would still put a back flow valve to keep it out of the municipal system but if not then CM
