Taking the wife and kids to the Pacific down by Oregon.
-
Have fun! And travel safely ;)
-
Have a safe and relaxing trip!
-
have a great time! Stay safe!
-
Thanks! Cooper gets to come with us this trip and no mountain passes. Middle of the morning on a Thursday means I get to dodge Seattle traffic too so I'm stoked.
-
Long beach?
JBLM traffic can be just as bad or worse, but you'll be missing that too ;)
-
Have a great trip!
Looks like you could pick up another link on your equalizer bars?
Looks like a bit more squat than I'm thinkin should be. Could just be how you're parked too tho.

Yup I agree, you need to spend a little time setting up the hitch and bars. Don't know what you have for a hitch but best to leave at least 5 links between the snap up bracket and the bar to keep from binding. You can swing the ball back toward the trailer a bit to transfer some more weight forward if you don't have enough links under pressure. Or grab a 1" raised ball for the set up if you have the 5 or 6" frame rails. Just be sure the new ball is rated for the trailer weight.
-
First thing I noticed
Yep hitch needs some adjustment...Too much tongue weight like that my friend
-
Guess it's a universal thing to notice, once you have and use a load-leveling hitch! I didn't want to nitpick on Tate as he was setting off on a relaxing adventure (we hope relaxing- I lost a tire last time I used the RV) with the family!
-
Enjoy your trip! End of next week I'm headed to CO for 2 weeks.
-
RN, you rollin thru this area or no? do we need to schedule a meet up again?
-
Sounds fun and enjoy.

No selfish motive here, you just want to help Nate settle into becoming a civilian...I can see that!

Yea.. we'll go with that. lol

my dinner table/kitchen is always open to you folks

So on the trip down I felt what you were discussing in my absence. on the return trip, I increased the tension by pulling up one more link on the bars. it was parked a little off camber, but my knowledge of load leveling hitches is minimal to say the least. On the return trip with 4 links instead of 3 it definitely rode better, but you're saying take it to 5 or make sure that at least 5 are left between the hook and the bar?
-
Long beach?
JBLM traffic can be just as bad or worse, but you'll be missing that too ;)
Toakeland, just outside of Westport. Backed the camper right up to the berm and had the waves lulling us to sleep at night.
woke up to this guy outside my window Saturday morning, about 20 yards away.
and this is flat and level, with 3 links. 4 links has at least 5 leftover and is the way I ran it coming home. what say you?
-
that looks like too much tongue weight still. what bob was talking about with the 5 links was (there should be 5 free links between the top of the load bar to where you hook the links in.) try loading more of the stuff you take in the camper over the axle's, that should help with leveling the entire load.
-
but you're saying take it to 5 or make sure that at least 5 are left between the hook and the bar?
I think he's saying to make sure there are at least 5 links between the hook and the bar... And then if you run out of adjustment (not enough links, brackets maxed, etc) you can rotate the ball towards the trailer, by moving the adjustable head on the shank, which will put more angle on the bars, and more weight forward as a result. I had to do that on my Dad's Equal-i-zer when he got it. There were some pretty detailed instructions i used that helped me a lot when getting his installed. Measuring from ground to top of fenders and stuff like that when getting things set up. Definitely want to get that trailer rollin down the highway as level as possible though at the very least.
Hope that helps!
As a side note, i would totally recommend an aftermarket hitch for your truck. These OBS steel tube units are kind of weak from what i've read, and can bend. Not sure if the upwards torque makes it worse than just downward tongue weight, but i have to assume so. I picked up the Curt Class V unit for 200 bucks... still have to install, but it seems like the go-to for everyone.

Love Tokeland by the way... We always swing in to Nelson Crab when we're down there... mmm mmm good

That was just another pic of the 3 link setup vs 4, but I hear ya loud and clear now. didn't get a pic of the setup w/ 4 links hooked in, but definitely was much better feeling wise. so tipping the ball towards the trailer would help then, because I have a lot of adjustment still there. height on whole assembly I thought was pretty good, just need to shift the weight forward?
-

Thanks for the info on the hitch and the recommendations. We were too busy eating all the crab we harvested in Warm Beach and brought down with us, but I passed the sign a couple times for Nelson's. Will have to make it a priority next time.
-
Yeah no prob! You'll get it dialed in..
Bottom line is looks like you guys are enjoying the heck out of your camper! We should plan a PNW Real Man camping trip... You, me, Bob for sure... and whoever else! Nate's going to be in Oregon soon, should look at doing something next summer!
-
for sure! we're headed back up to Leavenworth next weekend to tube the Wenatchee river. Even found a company that has tubes for the dog!
-
Right on! That's my favorite part of the state... We're going to Chelan first week in August.

Man, lesser of two evils... Don't know if being in the mountains would be any better. Definitely want to be above 100 ft of sea level though...
Tell you what tho, that article got my wife spooked. She's now talking "preps" and is scheduling planning meetings with family, lookin at uhf/vhf radios for the various households in the family, the whole 9.

GOOD!
-
We saw that and paid heed. We have a tsunami bugout specific plan with an old forest svc road onto old BUSE lumber co property that is now owned by a friend. WELL above prehistoric tsunami levels based on the geotec survey and only 5 min from the casa. When we were on the coast last weekend and she saw the tsunami evacuation route signs, she was glad we had our own plan.

Camping for the next week outside of Grovespring, MO -chasing dogs through the hills! Might sneak over to Joplin and torment HC?! Can you DOT a guy while on duty?

Yeah, it took mine watching a show about the likelihood and the effect of an EMP to get on board. Then I gave her a copy of "Lights Out" and she was the one pushing me to be prepared faster.
-
I think it's likely because the scenario is a natural disaster that she can relate to, versus more sinister events... I'll take it tho, funny that I'm not such a weirdo all of the sudden LOL

Back to the camping part....any of our members in the CO Springs area? Going to be up that way camping.
-
Heading back to Deception pass coming from Roche Harbor in the San Juans this weekend. My uncles 32' Grady White was a very nice ride. 5 days without cell service too, really nice getting all the family together without electronics for almost a week!
-
That is awesome Tate. Roche Harbor is one of my favorite places ever, used to vacation there every summer as a kid. Glad you enjoyed your vacation with the family!
-
No good pictures, so no proof, but we had lunch and a couple bloody Mary's at the Madrona Bar & Grill, then had our boat "moved" by the harbor master out to a floating dock. apparently we parked in HIS spot: http://www.charterworld.com/?sub=yacht-charter&charter=after-eight-2109
and he was none too pleased, lol.
-
Went to Tokeland, WA this weekend for thanksgiving. Had some truck issues, but the trip was worth it. beautiful weather, (cold, but not too bad), family and friends and spending time together.
-
That last one is of cooper dreaming after 2 hrs of swimming after his training dummy. freezing cold out and he would not stop until I made him. STILL swimming in his dreams.
-
Looks like a great time Tate.
Whats up with the max??
-
Serpentine belt, idler pulley and a starter hampered my trip a bit, but we made it through it.
-
You know that I am not too far away from Wash Away don't you? I didn't get a call for help so I would guess not.
Did you get the clams out on the mud flats chasing lines, or just buy them?
-
Well, no pics here. Each Thanksgiving for the past few years we have been re-living the childhood experience of camping with the extended family. This year with the immenent threat of rain, we bagged the state park and had it at our weekend place. Still took the RV there so my sister and her family had a place to sleep. Wired the shop for a 4 wire 220 so we could power it.
Danged if everytime we tried to build a fire if it didn't start raining.
Last week, I arrived to find a big cedar tree blown down over the drive way. Got in with the chainsaw and hacked it all up only to discover a few days later that there must have been a poison sumac in that downed mess. Now itching like crazy on my arms with a nice rash to go with it.
-
Oh ouch, poison vines are not good, we have the poison ivy up here. Burn the stuff and take a whiff or two of smoke and bad things happen. Didn't you tell me that with enough gas anything will burn?
-

I had a pretty good idea of your general area, so believe me, if I couldn't figure out the starter you'd have been called up for active service! Thanks for the reminder Bob. hope your thanksgiving was great!

I'll PM you my number too... Us WA guys have to look out for eachother!
-
I'm down south of all those guys (Vancouver), let me know if you ever need anything :)
-
And there you have it, I think Western Washington is covered. Kyle, is there a place on here to selectively post up contact stuff?
-

Roger that. I got it to burn but I don't like sitting in the cold rain.
I've never encountered poison sumac. I always look out for PI and PO and know better. Sumac is more like a small tree and I never gave much thought to it. Will know better next time. Just thank the Lord I didn't immediately go pee in the woods and handle the johnson.....
-

We have a thread in the mod/admin board, but obviously not everyone has access to that. Prob best to stick to PM if you guys want to share info otherwise it's public domain

Have a great time. Never a bad time to get out with the family. Have a great time!

Thanks all. Ken yes those are lights traditionally used for Christmas. Hard for most people to understand but I don't celebrate Christmas. Probably start some arguments here but suffice to say I'm not catholic. If you research the origins of Christmas it dates to the 4th century AD when the Catholics were trying to convert Romans and they inserted the holiday on top of the Romans Saturnalia holiday. Protestants didn't adopt until the 1800s and then it was only to compete for church goers during the holidays when they wanted a party too.
Christ was born in August or September as far as historical records can tell. Flocks are not in the field in December. As we are only commanded to celebrate His death in Corinthians. That was what provided salvation. No where are we commanded to celebrate His birth.
I use them year round for camp illumination though and get a smokin deal in replacements each year about this time

Yeah. And you can get them for like $1 on sale. I've lusted after rope LEDs but when I can replace the entire set up every 3 years for $5. It's hard to spend the money.

Heading out on Wednesday to eastern WA for some river floating and fishing. Just won a sales contest here at RANDYS and received this gem. If only I could now find something to put in there.... ;D
-
Congrats Tate! Great service and good sales people never go out of style and are worth their weight in gold. Made it to red river nm today. 8800 ft elevation and 55 degrees. I'm starving for oxygen. Was at 4000 ft this morning and went for a run. Doubt I'll run tomorrow. I get light headed just standing up here! Home for me is 164 ft above sea level

Nice score Nate. Sure you will find something for it.
Heard an inhaler can help some at those altitudes. No personal experiance over 10k, but no issues either.
We just came back from a quick 2 day trip to Wrights lake and Ice House (gateway to the rubicon)
Kids died on the way home but I caught a couple nice rainbows at Ice House. (on the dam over my right brim)
Oh and that shelf works great!!

That reminds me of fishing off the dike at Fire Mountain scout camp. We ran into some rather large river carp that wanted to nibble on our toes while floating. guess there were lots of people dropping food. no pics, but we ran into thunder and lightning storm on the water. Jumped out and headed up into some random back yard, where we were berated for trespassing. I explained their property wasn't my first choice but with the lightning less than a mile off, I wasn't chancing my families safety. They didn't care much for excuses and told me to get lost rather than give me an address I could use to GPS my position and make my way back to the truck. I left them with some choice words and brought my family to the side of the road, then hiked 2.5miles in water socks back to the Dmax. Rough outing, bad weather planning, idiot people, so we did it again two days later with a 100% success rate to erase that event.
