I want to thank you guys for the prayers for my Dad. He passed peacefully on Tuesday night at about 630. He did it on his terms, was in the home he loved and with his family. While certainly sad, we are also very grateful that his passing ends his suffering and will ultimately be easier for my Mom who has withered under the strain of providing him care over the past few years. I am at peace and happy that he is with his parents and his sister who all pre-deceased him.
My wife remarked that Hospice is a much more natural process where he got to stay at home cared for by family instead of being in an antiseptic hospital with blinking lights, alarms and strangers. I will spread some of his ashes in a stream in northern Maine where he loved to fish.
His service will be a celebration of his life and all that he did. He loved the outdoors, he loved to garden, he loved opera, WWII history (he could tell you every battle and how and why it turned out the way it did and also how it affected other aspects of the War). He was a Russian interpreter during Korea and got to do some very fun things, and some not so fun things that he would still not disclose right to his death. He was a complex man.
Thanks for the support you all provided. It may not seem like much as forums are not the same as face to face but know that I and my family appreciate it.

Wilbur may you find solace in Christ in your time of need. I'm sorry for your loss. II Cor 5:1-4. 1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, 3 inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. 4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life.
