Firearms / New to me Beretta 92S
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:00:45 PM »
This was an Italian Police-issue pistol, to which I added a rose wood grip after slight modification.

After going through it's guts, I believe it may have only been fired a couple of times by it's previous owner.  Got this for under $350, had to wait a while for it to get to me though.  The mag release is at the heel of the grip instead of under the thumb, and the safety is a right-handed mechanism instead of the more modern ambidextrous.

Canning & Food Storage / Powdered Peanut Butter!
« on: May 01, 2016, 08:01:09 PM »
I just got some of this today at Costco, it was under $6.00 for a big jar of it.  Expiration date says March 2018, but I believe if it's left sealed in it's original package, and kept in a cool dark place it will last much longer.

Just add a little water and you've got peanut butter. I never knew this existed, but it's going to be a fixture in my food storage from here on out.

Radio/Comms / North Georgia GMRS Nightly Net
« on: April 28, 2016, 10:28:11 PM »
We had a good little radio network going tonight.

For anybody who lives in North Georgia, and is reading this, and doesn't know already:

Sassafras Mountain Repeater at 8pm, all licensed users are welcome to join in.

There were about 10 of us tonight, had a good little discussion about this and that.

We had check-ins from Ellijay, Canton, Buford, Rome, Winder, Woodstock, Lawrenceville, Sugar Hill, and Porterdale.

We had very strong contacts covering a 2800 square mile area.  North Georgia GMRS has over 300 licensed users and over 1000 assigned unit numbers to include family members of the licensees.

Just putting the word out about this... most of these radiomen tend to be on the conservative side, and most are preppers.  Quite a good number of LEOs and military as well.  Good folks all around.

ATL-60 Gary Beckstedt WQFU865 has put in a huge amount of time and investment establishing a network of 24 ( :o :o :o :o  ) repeaters, most of which have solar panels and battery backups with commercial grade equipment.  I hope this summer I get to go climb some towers and do some maintenance with him and other members.

Those of you who are interested in the hobby, licensing is cheap and covers your whole family with a single license.  Feel free to message me or post here, and I can show you where the repeaters are in your area, anywhere in the USA.

The images below represent the coverage area of a single repeater, and there are 24 in the network!

Most Favored Companies / Ford Dealership
« on: April 18, 2016, 09:14:52 AM »
Of all the auto dealerships I've been to, Chestatee Ford in Georgia is by far the best.

I've bought three vehicles from them, and the process has been very simple each time.  No pressure, gimmicks or weird sales tactics.

Ask for Brent, he's a good Christian man, and his daughter is just finishing up at a Christian college in Texas where she has majored in Missionary studies and is looking to travel abroad to spread the Word.

Classifieds / Atlanta area: I'm hiring truck drivers
« on: April 13, 2016, 05:04:17 PM »
I need class A and B drivers who like to work.

I'm tired of the slack-asses who cross my doorway in their house slippers looking like mommy rolled them out of bed and made them find a job.

I need go-getters.  People who present well and are polite to my customers, and not afraid to use a pallet jack or get their hands dirty from time to time.
You will make it home almost every night.  I don't hang my drivers out to dry on the road, waiting for loads.  If there's no back haul, you turn and burn.  Bring it back to Atlanta where we have outbound and local work.

Take home from 700-1000 per week (could be potentially more) if you can give me at least 55 hours every week.  Late model Kenworth equipment.

Dry Van, Flat Bed (pays more), and Hazmat endorsement is a plus.  If you think this sounds good, or know somebody who you would vouch for as a hard worker who shows up ON TIME, holler back at me.

Faith Discussion / Bible Gateway

Just in case, y'all haven't seen this website yet, it's my favorite Bible reference site.

www.biblegateway.com

There is a corresponding app for phones and tablets, sends you daily scriptures, has reading plans, it's really great.

ALSO... IMHO the best feature of all, you can compare scriptures between different versions, side by side!

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%201&version=KJV;NIV

Check it out, it's a great resource.

Site Rules & Introductions / Greetings, like-minded citizens!
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:31:09 AM »
Hello everyone, my name is Matthew and I live in north Georgia.

I'm a Christian, a novice prepper, radio hobbyist, motorcyclist and outdoor enthusiast.  Recently got myself a little convertible sports car, enjoying it greatly.

I stumbled over this website on my other regular forum, BadWeatherBikers.com where somebody cross-posted a link to the Duramax forums showing Don's green bug-out truck being built, and was intrigued enough to head over here.

I like what I see here, and hope to be a valuable addition to the community.
