That whole cash for clunkers thing really put me in a bind. Not in a good place financially at the time I only bought $500 cars and ran them until they quit. Just over the past year or so I am finding cheap beaters to drive around.

so jon, the question is...?.did you rough it with the young man or did you glamp it in style......lol

Yep I roughed it with him. Got a sore neck from a hard cot. I bought a Tee pee tent from Wal-Mart. I thought it would be cool. Its not. Woke up wet with dew even though the windows were closed. When you open the door all the water runs in because its on a slant. I really didn't think that one through. On the up side you can have it up in less than 10 minutes.

Glad you BOTH had fun Jon.  Way I hear it, fathers usually have the most fun and the scouts are there to keep matters in check!?

Yes I would say that is accurate. Otherwise I suppose there would be adult beverages and nobody would be awake to make breakfast.

I am buying and selling on Craigslist all the time. I put a want ad out looking for certain things sometimes. Then I get a message. Is your car still for sale. Um....I'm not selling anything. Sometimes I get this. I will send you a money order and someone will pick up the vehicle. I tell them to give cash to whoever comes to get it.

I went through the whole thing a few years ago and rebuilt everything. The engine has always been good but it does over heat once in a while. We actually have more trouble with that old wagon than anything. No body has parts anymore so we have to make our own. The tuck is too tall to blow into it that so we have to use the wagon.

Isnt there suppose to be some big bunker under the air port?

She has been an a lot of pain and her blood pressure has been fluctuating. As low as 88 over 50. Sounds like they got it all under control now. Originally thought she would come home Sunday. Not going to happen now. She will have to stay a couple more days.

Even though I don't comment much I am reading and praying for everyone. My mother in law just went into surgery for hip replacement. Pray for a speedy recovery.

2 years of messing around with Kentucky Drs and still never got it done. 2 months in Nebraska and she's under the knife.

We had a great time "camping" this weekend. I even caught a little cat. Battery kept going dead on the generator. I think I know why but not positive. Will address that on my toter-home build thread.

The only reason we wanted go to the fair was I haven't been there since they moved it. My wife has never been. Maybe next year. Typically only go once every 4 to 5 years.

As far as the speed limit goes I like it. I usually drove 3 over anyway so I just bump up the cruise 2 more. I can see more accidents coming during harvest. People won't be use to the extra stopping distance required for the increased speed. Especially when they catch up to farm equipment the highway. Pretty hilly in my area. You can fly over a hill and out if nowhere there's a tractor and wagon.

We are headed to Spencer. We will be fishing below the dam. Never been disappointed. Except that one year all we caught was carp. That was still fun. They fought like crazy. My arms were wore out. We caught a bunch of em.

The boss man bought some more cattle so we have been making fence. Putting part of the feed lot back together. Other than that been pretty quiet around my neck of the woods. We are going on a little fishing trip this weekend with another couple. No kids. This will be the first real world test of the generator I installed on the freightliner. Boondocking along the Niobrara river in north central Nebraska. We will be close to a campground so If it fails we can always go pay for a plug in. Id rather stay next to the river.

We originally planned on going to the state fair this weekend but didn't plan ahead soon enough. There is no place to park. My wife literally got laughed at over the phone when she asked if there any spots left. I guess they rented out spots that are not spots. They are packed in like sardines. Not my idea of fun.

Oh and in other news. Most of you know my mother in law moved in with us. She just had her first appointment with the surgeon about getting a hip replacement. She gets it done in 2 weeks. I have never seen her so happy. The Drs in Kentucky have been messing around for 2 years. Try this shot. Try this pill. You are too young. Bla bla bla.

This guy came in and says yea its almost the worst I ever seen. You need a new hip. See you in 2 weeks. The nurse will fill you on the details.

I have that all around the basement kitchen 4 ft high and then the back splash. It is the real stuff not the fake plastic. Its the thinnest you can get. I don't remember the gauge. It bends easily. We had to be really careful moving it around. Used liquid nails and lag bolts to hold it up. Electrician found me some grey outlets and stainless covers to really finish it off.

After letting it simmer all day separate everything and put into jars to can. Pressure can quarts at 10 lbs (reccomended for my area) for 25 minutes. You altitude will dictate the pressure.

I was talking with tate about this jon.  he was saying that if you boil it at a slower boil, it wont emulisify the fat molecules and you will get a clearer end product.
I will have to try that next time. Thanks.

Cut the bottom off a bunch of celery and trim off the dried ends. Wash and cut in half. Carrots same thing. Trim off the ends. wash and break in half. Onions quarter and take off out side couple layers of skin. Garlic is optional. I love garlic so I put in a whole clove.

Put garlic clove in a jar with a lid. Shake vigorously. Dump it out and sort out the individual cloves. This works like a charm every time.

When it starts to boil you will have to scoop the foam off with a large spoon. You will have to do this several times.

My plans for the day got cancelled so I'm going to make stock. When we cut up a chicken to fry I always keep the carcass. This is what I make stock out of. I don't have a written down recipe. I will post each step as I go.
Ideally the carcass should be thawed at room temperature. Being I'm doing this last minute they are still frozen. Not a big deal. Just takes longer to boil.

Step one get a big pot.
Put carcass in the pot and fill with water. I have 5 carcasses in this pot
Throw in a few bay leaves and salt and pepper to taste.

The only thing I don't like is the propane generator. Everyone I talked to that has one is tired of changing bottles all the time. But I suppose its safer than having a bunch of gas cans.

We have a cool event happening at work today. It is Wind Appreciation week. For Power that is. Not Wyoming style.

We have a 59 meter long blade in our parking lot for visitor to view as well as the Schnabel tower trailer hooked up to the truck with the big sign.

 :likebutton:

That is pretty impressive. I see them all time. They are building a bunch of windmills up here by me. What is really neat is the big Oshkosh 6x6 trucks and the 14 ft wide trailers that carry the generators. I never did get a picture of one.

I drug home another salvage camper. This one is pretty bad shape. It has a good roof air conditioner with a heat setting. I want to pull it out and install it in my 5th wheel. One just isn't enough when its 100 degrees out. I am going to have to wire it separately from the rest of the camper so it has its own plug to the pole. Winter project.

I am going to cut the axles out and put them on my smoker/BBQ I built a year or so ago. I used a single axle with no suspension. The tongue is so heavy I cant pick it up and it bounces allover the road. 2 axle with springs will be much better.

I think I would sell the house off and pay the debt. Living in a camper is no fun but the kids are small. Not like you have 2 teenagers. Its doable. Just be careful you don't end up right back where you are now.

We were at Sid Dillon in Blair. It's a plain Jane model with 120,000 miles. $16,986. It looks black but it's actually a dark blue. They literally just got it in and through the shop. It had not been detailed yet when we test drove it. Wife wanted one with all the bells and whistles but the ones in our price range were all junky or had a million miles.

Shift kit in an Acadia is pretty freakin cool. I had to spend the night in the hospital last night. Monday morning I woke up with some pretty severe joint pain and stiffness in places where I usually don?t hurt. By noon I felt like I would be a liability at work so I went home. By yesterday afternoon the pain and weakness had spread to my muscles and was bad enough I had to use both hands to turn door knobs and walking down stairs was a challenge. As of now the dr suspects I have a some sort of blood illness from being bitten by a tick. I haven?t seen a tick in months but who knows. This morning they?re going to start another round of tests to try and narrow it down. They kept me over night because I had a high fever, pulse of 161, systolic pressure reaching 200, and was showings signs of kidney malfunction. Those are all far from normal for me.

What kind of a tick does that? That is scary. Will be praying for you.

Doing some SUV shopping. The steering on my wife's traverse has locked up on her twice now. Mechanic says he cant find anything wrong. Everything looks good. no leaks and so on. But what he did find is the entire rear suspension is shot. We just put new struts on the front and alignment. but it is still chewing up tires. So its parked for now until we find something else. I bought it with hail damage at a "hail sale" so we wont get much for it. She wants an infinity. I don't know anything about them so time to read up on them.

Cooking equipment / Air fryer

My wife has been wanting a air fryer for a while now. I caved and got one for her for Christmas. She used it for fries and stuff like that. Was not overly impressed.
Today I decided to try frying chicken in it. No breading just salt and pepper and some Lowrey seasoned salt. I have to say it turned out pretty darn good. Now it's time to experiment with more foods. I would call it a good investment over all. We were just not using it to its full potential at first.
I would have a picture of the chicken but it's already gone.
