Soldier Up / Re: Krav Maga
« on: August 09, 2016, 02:32:31 PM »
All jokes aside Shawn, I would go for it. A few years ago I went all in for 6 months at brazilian jiu jitsu with Sam until he got too involved with running start, and I paid for it with my bad knee and disc issues and bad hands/nerves etc. But it was worth the close time gained for sure. Krav is much more explosive than bjj, but it seems to be a lot more upper body involvement, which I'd be game to try myself. The other guys are right, you probably won't get another opportunity w/ her like this. "suck it up buttercup"

Was that a monkey reference to Sam Jackson??? bwahahahaahhaha. the hair is pretty close to either in that scene, but I would expect Clint Eastwood to have made an appearance alongside the monkey at some point.

Step one: become disgusted with the amount of overboost codes you have popped when towing in fairly innocuous situations when you're not even half in the throttle.
Step two: become even further disgusted with the subsequent performance when it starts to defuel and you've got to slow down going over the pass.
Step three: $26.95 at o'reilly's for basic filter and CRC MAF cleaner
Step four: 15 min w/ Sophie helping to pull and replace the filter, clean the MAF and reinstall everything.
Step five: Enjoy a victory bourbon as you realize you've killed two birds with one stone as the white hazy smoke you associated with failing injectors is now gone as well as the dirty filter and MAF.

Lesson learned: changing filters regularly and cleaning sensitive electrical components might be more important on the duramax than they were on my old Beretta...

You have definitely got some Canadian(s) out your way, (feathered, not distilled, but some of that too;-) but for the gun, foregrip and pistol grip you'd be $296 with the 870 clone. You want to bird hunt, I've got a "recently saved from auction" over/under you can borrow  ;D

some smoked cabbage turned into slaw with a little grilled chicken on the side.

here is the recipe for the sauce:
One head chopped cabbage - no other vegies!
1/2 cup vinegar
6 tbs sugar
6 tbs EVOO
2 1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp celery seed
1 tsp dried celery
1 tbs hot sauce to taste

Combine vinegar, oil and other ingredients in a sealed jar and give it a vigorous shake. Pour over chopped cabbage and toss. Let sit in fridge for two hours or longer (Overnight if you can resist). Toss again before serving.

This will juice up quite a bit so you can use a slotted spoon to serve if you wish.

Smoked cabbage slaw... you my friend, are a genius. Thank you for your culinary contributions!

That reminds me of fishing off the dike at Fire Mountain scout camp. We ran into some rather large river carp that wanted to nibble on our toes while floating. guess there were lots of people dropping food. no pics, but we ran into thunder and lightning storm on the water. Jumped out and headed up into some random back yard, where we were berated for trespassing. I explained their property wasn't my first choice but with the lightning less than a mile off, I wasn't chancing my families safety. They didn't care much for excuses and told me to get lost rather than give me an address I could use to GPS my position and make my way back to the truck. I left them with some choice words and brought my family to the side of the road, then hiked 2.5miles in water socks back to the Dmax. Rough outing, bad weather planning, idiot people, so we did it again two days later with a 100% success rate to erase that event.

I am suppressing rage at the moment...

This is the same thing they were doing to some of our guys in Afghanistan.

Any of you who read my book...I talk about such a day there. They did that to American soldiers they had captured the night before.

I can promise you they paid a very high price for what they did. Problem is you can only kill a rat once...

The American people are not ready for what these people are willing to do. Europe is losing it. It will take a near Crusade like cleansing to rid the nations of this terrible cancer...

These are not people Don. They are not good enough to be counted with the Human race.

I'll be swinging down to pickup my bacon order, thank you Nate!

Made these with the leftovers from our 4th of July dinner.
Watermelon mojitos:
careful, this makes a lot...

1/4 large seedless watermelon about 8 cups worth, or in my case about 5lbs.
1 large handful fresh mint leaves, I use the lemon mint for more citrus taste
1 large lime
1/3 cup sugar
1tsp vanilla
1cup of light rum

Cut off rind and cut watermelon into manageable chunks
Using large food processor or working in batches with smaller one, process in pulses until pureed.
finely chop mint leaves and add to puree, pulse to combine
add lime zest, and juice, sugar and vanilla to puree, pulse to combine
(you can stop here and give some to the kiddos)
add rum and enjoy.

My take was it needed an extra shot to be a proper cocktail, but was a great sipper without it. you can church it up a bit and add fresh mint leaves on top and serve over ice in a highball, or even add a bit of fresh cracked pepper which for some reason totally works.

Made some Nacho-tachos with bacon and jalepeño cream sauce, and a big ol Cobb salad. that's about a half cup of bacon crumbles on there.

NACHO-TACHOS:
Baking sheet w/ parchment for easy cleanup. (foil sticks to cheese, then to teeth, yikes)
Layer of tortilla chips, cheddar/Monterey jack blend, black beans, olives, diced red onions cilantro crumbled bacon and pickled jalapeños
Layer of crispy fried tater tots
repeat first layer minus chips
top with pepper jack cheese
bake in 450deg oven for 4min, turn 180deg, 4 min more.
garnish w/ sliced green onions and fresh cilantro and Jalapeño cream sauce

Jalapeño cream sauce:

equal parts heavy cream, sour cream and mayo
half that amount of pickled jalapeños pureed w/ equal amount of pickling juice
garlic powder and salt to taste
drizzle over the tots.

I feel your pain, literally. I did my belt in a campground in 20 deg weather with a cracked rib when my idler pulley took a dump on me. Not easy at all. I have noticed my alt puts out less than 14 volts for the first few seconds at start up, then cranks up to over 14 and the lights brighten up. not sure if this is the clutch you're talking about or not, but it's consistent with each startup.

I like the sieve-like vegetable steamers that have a central stud and open up like a flower. it could slip past debris on the way down, and then open up to collect surface stuff as it's retrieved. I was also wondering why there wasn't a tripod from all those cedar branches and some scout lashing to help lower and raise that hook there Don. Don't forget the simple stuff, and wouldn't be a bad course for the PR's, (or course review).

Still think the dog threat deserved righteous defense of self and property. good work on the fence there buddy; watch out for them landlords, my father in law has rented for 20+ years and after doing all the upgrades to the property and yard etc. they got the home estimated and jacked his rent $400 because it was "worth more than they were charging now"

Ok, I was thinking of originally heat treated material that had been modified. My good friend, (ironically named Don) had custom cut and re-splined some dana 60 axles for his chevy II and first time at the track they snapped clean at the base of the new spline like they'd been sliced w/ a laser. They had not been properly heat treated at the new spline location. It really would boil down to two scenarios in my mind; faulty from the factory, or overheated during install.

Man when it rains it pours! glad no one was hurt. I'm with "the Kid" on this one; I'm no metallurgist, but I've always been told heat treatments are tricky, and I know people have damaged their superjoint caps trying to tack weld the caps in place rather than relying on the full circle snap rings.

posted this earlier in the WDYDT but thought it should be here too. The pork fried rice never made it past the counter before the siblings, teenagers, nieces and children destroyed it, making it "un-photographable". but it was tasty. BBQ pork and egg rolls are all store bought, but vegetable chow mein, orange chicken, hot & sour soup, and the fried rice were all scratch made including the sauces. Even made some dark soy sauce for the occasion.
