Site Help / Problems with using cell phone
« on: June 21, 2019, 12:35:41 AM »
So is it this site or do I just have problems using my cell phone to post anything? I am not the worlds best at grammar and spelling but when I try to post anything with the cell phone it posts whatever it wants, not what I tried to post.

Wife gets her new puppy this weekend, it comes with a small hernia we find out today. Hope to get it fixed when we have her spayed. Stuff never ends.

Good going, now check the thermostats and you should be good at go go

I can’t sleep in a truck no matter how far the seat reclines.  I have had a better nap behind the wheel at 55 than ever pulling over.

I use a rest area, or out of the way wide spot, or a nice motel. Climb in the back under the canopy and take a good nap. Been on way to many callouts where a person took a nap while driving and ended up out in the brush and trees, or across centerline and met a rig coming the other direction.

I guess until you get your travel trailer set up, you can grab a cheap room in town during the week anyway. How far from the casinos are you any way?
A couple of the containers will give you lots of storage. How far will you need to haul water or will you have it delivered once you get the storage tank set up.

Not a good day when that happens either in a car or truck. I would think safer in a truck and can also see a lot better.

Thanks Ken, we really like it so far.
Dave, I haven't seen anything on the problems with the 19's hopefully it will be fine. I will use it mostly in tow haul mode for pulling trailers and the boat around so maybe the fewer shift points will be fine.

Man. The specs are impressive Bob but I’m struggling to like the looks of the 2019. Any pics?

Took a few photos this morning. I like the looks of the truck better than the 2016. Hopefully the color change will help keep it from getting beat up.

Bob, sorry to hear about the bumper.  I guess the silver lining is its a remove and replace piece, no bodywork to speak of.

Well, I had the parking lot damage fixed on the GMC. Then traded it in today for a 2019 GMC Sierra 3500. Never have had good luck with a red vehicle so just got rid of it..

Beautiful area Ken, some nice trout in the lake, not the lake trout they taste not so good, the rainbow are very good. Nice job on the road, only problem I saw was the lower right photo in the last post. That easement road, how many properties does it serve and is there a road maintenance agreement in place where the cost of maintenance is shared by all?

Looking good Ken, nice there is a good base to work with. The existing roadway, is it an old log truck road from the  landing/clearing? The Clark Fork is really moving and full, probably not much fishing right now.

Scored 650 if my 50 Plymouth counts as a jeep. It was driven like one, I did a lot of fishing and hunting with it and it did spend a couple times resting on it's top or side.

JR, I am very happy with Cannon given the service they provided. Somewhat of a big let down when you push the buttons and the safe doesn't open though. Was able to find a couple broken wires in the back of the touch pad, got them reconnected and the safe opened. Could have been worse, like  opening morning and not being able to access the rifles would have really got the blood pumping.

Had to replace the touch pad and internal lock on one of my safes today. Two battery connection wires out of four were  broken after about 25 years of use. Talked to Cannon Safe, they sent me new replacement lock and touch pad at no charge. Hardest part was finding the broken wires and keeping the very short wires together long enough to get the safe open.

JR, if what Nate is saying is true, that just isn't right no matter how you try to defend it. The shop should be making it right not charging you for on the job training. Not sure I would even be giving them another chance at it if you are having to pay to let them try again.

Sounds good Ken. You will be surprised at what you can put fabric over and end up with a good solid roadbed. It really keeps the mud from pumping up and helps bridge the weaker areas. Probably don't need a layer of pitrun, but that does keep the sharp edges of the crushed rock from cutting the fabric.  All the descriptions or names of products change from area to area, I hadn't heard that one used before. Lots of guys here use 4-6 screened crushed for base as the water flows good to the curtain drains or ditch line.

D.O.T. / Re: WDYDT (What Did You Do Today)

No strength in dirt Ken, AB? not sure what that is but ground/broken asphalt or cement concrete is good, so is good clean pit run gravel or 2-4 inch crushed rock with a top cover of 3/4-. Might need to channel water away from base with good drainage piping and ditches if you will be in wet area. If you never run heavy on the driveway you might get away with less strength but we know that won't happen. Get it opened up a see what you got first then look at options for building a good driveway. Remember water is one of the worse enemies of roadways. Overloading the base is right up there also.

What are you building? / Re: Dave’s house
« on: May 11, 2019, 12:32:15 PM »
What's considered road base in your neck of the woods Dave? I have to decide what to use when I get to Idaho next week.  Local guy said I was going to need 4-6" base on top of fabric on my property.  I was thinking 2-3" but haven't started digging yet to see soil condition.

Ken, cheaper to put down a good base now than have to start over when a less stable one fails and you have to redo it. Fabric is a great product, saves digging everything out down to good material and then backfilling. First layer of base material should be pit-run so you aren't tearing the fabric with sharp edges. I would say at least 4-6 inches to help keep the fabric in place.

Don't know how much area a welded thumb takes up, but if you ever want to use other attachments on the bucket stick make sure you will have room with a welded in place thumb.

Might be more cost effective to rent a  dozer. Maybe find one by hour meter rent rather than by the day, get the roads roughed in and finish up with your stuff as time allows.

Rent yourself an augur for your tractor and do a few test holes around the property. Look for the dampness of the soil and chart out the holes. OR the dowsing thing.  Most of the snow gone from the higher areas near you so you don't get false readings of the soil?

JR did the well guy quote price for the well or price per foot? and do they charge move in fees? How large casing did he quote on. Do you have to put a "road" to the well site or can he make it in on his own power with the drill rig and nurse rig? I know silly Question, are you going to witch a site or just drive a stake with drill here on it?

Darn, all this talk about these fancy tractors and attachments. I grew up using an 8N Ford, plowing and disking, trying to use a back blade on the long driveway, mowing around the place, and putting up hay in the summer. Sure would have been nice to have had some of these new toys back then.
The property looks like a nice find JR, enjoy playing around ( working) making all the improvements to the place.
