Speaking of 6-wheeled red trucks...

Found Tex’s next truck.
(Note, Ken may not want to look since it’s a Fox news link and not cnn...)

Little late, but your mention of the garage door opener in the way -- I would have put in jackshaft openers on the two doors. Gets that darn motor out of the center of the garage where you might be wielding a 2x4, etc around and hit the thing. And yeah -- not sure texturing is the best idea in a garage - will hold onto dirt/sawdust/grease.
I am putting a loft above the small door so the vertical door won’t work so well.  The large door sits on the ceiling pretty close now.
Plenty of space in the back of the garage (30feet) for activities

Jackshaft doesn't mean you have to have a vertical door like most of the large commercial doors.

I keep mine in 5th as well, up until about 70. Rough on mileage, but sure is smooth, and easier to pass someone :)
Cummins' are better at lugging.

Drove a 26' Penske truck with a Cummins in it a couple weekends ago and yeah... that thing didn't want to downshift to save its life! Merging onto the highway I had the pedal to the floor and nothin. Only had 1000lb in it, too.

Yep, we had DE in school still. Gave me my CDL in no time and passed the first.

Well, mom is back in the hospital for a day or 2. Got into the seniorhome OK, but the toilet flooded (unknown cause, but not the first there). She tried to clean it up and fell without her walker (Again!) and laid there for a couple hours in the muck until rooms flooded around her. 2 others are out of their rooms too because of this.

Starting clean her home out now, what a mess!
Sounds like your mom really knows how to make a 'splash' in new situations....

Another reason why I pulled the lever now. Got 15% and may get another $50. Plus the rear tires are under 1/8th, one front has a 1/4.

Yeah I probably could have milked them a bit longer, but with winter rain coming it is probably best. I had 3/32's left on the rears at the end of July and then took a 3000 mile road trip the first week of August. Since there was so little tread, it was hard to get a perfect balance on them (or so they told me) and I fought a shimmy in the steering wheel for most of the trip. Wasn't so bad once I hit 80mph, but 60-65 was pretty bad. Seemed to get better by the end... or I was just so numb I didn't notice it.

Ryan, not sure if the question was serious, so forgive me if I’m too dense to pick up on subtlety.

A solid one piece third member that mechanically fixes the axles.  100% direct drive on both shafts. Zero slippage. Maximum torque and maximum tire wear....

Question was serious lol. Didn’t know what was meant by ‘spool’... I was thinking a bare rim since it kind of resembles a spool (thread, wire, etc...)

Looked it up and now I see that it is just a simple traction locker/diff replacement.

Since I’m storing my surplus fireworks that might not be a bad idea. Halon pipe right down the outside long wall. Shouldn’t take much in an enclosed space like that.

Now I have the can finished and I’m filling it up with stuff the kids are asking questions. Interesting convo with them about my concentric circle planning and where the next piece of property will be for the last circle. I did have to detour a bit to “resort up” the place because life with kids, ya know!

They used to joke about my “phases” as they would call them. Weapons, reloading, HAM radio, Ready Store, etc. now they are starting to see all of it put in order in the “plan”

Will run inventory on all my stuff with a eye towards one year self sufficiency here. Next step is looking for some acreage in ID or MT as the last and final circle.

In retirement it will be the summer get away from the heat for a couple months and the permanent get away if something really really bad happens

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Having been through both of those states in the last week, the heat during summer isn’t much less than Texas. Still hits the low to mid 90’s. The southern parts of both are pretty blah, but up north it is very nice.

Shawn is just like my buddy who just bought a F-150 last weekend and wore a Ford t-shirt to my daughter’s bday bbq yesterday just to egg me on... almost went and put on my Chevrolet shirt.

I was at discount today, too. Second time in a week and a half to have the tires on the Acadia balanced again before our road trip this coming weekend. Half an ounce out on LF and RR. Little annoyed I had to go back, but it is what it is. Last time I was there one tire was a few lbs low, had to fix that when I got home.

Shift kit in an Acadia is pretty freakin cool. I had to spend the night in the hospital last night. Monday morning I woke up with some pretty severe joint pain and stiffness in places where I usually don’t hurt. By noon I felt like I would be a liability at work so I went home. By yesterday afternoon the pain and weakness had spread to my muscles and was bad enough I had to use both hands to turn door knobs and walking down stairs was a challenge. As of now the dr suspects I have a some sort of blood illness from being bitten by a tick. I haven’t seen a tick in months but who knows. This morning they’re going to start another round of tests to try and narrow it down. They kept me over night because I had a high fever, pulse of 161, systolic pressure reaching 200, and was showings signs of kidney malfunction. Those are all far from normal for me.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What kind of a tick does that? That is scary. Will be praying for you.

Ticks can carry Lyme disease and that can cause paralysis. Have a close family friend that was bit a few years ago and while she is doing a lot better now, she still is not 100%, and she might never be.

Doing some SUV shopping. The steering on my wife's traverse has locked up on her twice now. Mechanic says he cant find anything wrong. Everything looks good. no leaks and so on. But what he did find is the entire rear suspension is shot. We just put new struts on the front and alignment. but it is still chewing up tires. So its parked for now until we find something else. I bought it with hail damage at a "hail sale" so we wont get much for it. She wants an infinity. I don't know anything about them so time to read up on them.

Tell me about it... just got done replacing the steering rack and struts on my wife's Acadia which involves dropping the engine/trans...  So, since that required disconnecting the A/C, I took the opportunity to replace all the A/C components, minus the lines. These Lambdas are plagued with A/C issues - turns out it looked like our leak was at the rear evaporator (had green dye all over the fins). Also noticed a drop of oil on the bottom of engine - looked dark enough to be motor oil, so my thought was rear main seal, so while it was dropped, I pulled the trans and flexplate - seal looked fine. Only other thing it could be is the torque converter seal into the trans, so replaced that instead.  Oh, and then noticed the water pump had some gel looking stuff around the outside of it on the front cover, so replaced that too, along with a new t-stat. Put a Transgo shift kit in the trans at the same time (like for the Allison).

If you want to keep it Jon, there is a 150K mi extended coverage program on the P/S pump if it is experiencing the issues that they deem warrant replacement. Ours was whining and stuttering when you'd turn the wheel. Got the pump replaced for free, that's when they told me the rack was leaking and it needed struts -- to the tune of $3K. All in - I did all of that above for about $1200.

Look into that P/S pump. If the rack needs replaced, you could do it without completely dropping the engine, but you'll still need to disconnect the rear drive shaft (if AWD), exhaust pipes, various things on the engine, then drop the rear end of the engine cradle so you can snake the rack out/in.
