Yes I have seen that one and the guy hanging off the bomb racks with his M4.

I'll add this, when I bought the T28 one of my worries were the fuel cells, they were replaced when the plane was overhauled back in the 90's.  My concern was they hadn't had fuel in them for quite some time.  Every trio up I would put 10-25- 50gal in and then wait to make sure it didn't spring any leaks.

This last trip and after I was done taxing around I was brave enough to top her off.

Everyone thinks they are paying a lot for Diesel/Gas try some AV gas, didn't buy this plane for its fuel efficiency so not a complaint just a statement of how off the rails things have gotten.
What’s the fuel capacity on that thing? Duck duckgo says 125gals…

Was going to ask. I just made a run and got 18.8, but you have a better turbo and exhaust.

Sweet. I don't think it looks funny, just what I'm used to.
Need to read a little further, JR. Made the same run and got 21.3. It was showing 22.3 for some of the trip, then came the hills!

BTW, the seat leather just came in. It looks pretty good.

Ordering the Dyna-mat sound deadener from Summit

Edit: I have this automatic price scanner installed on my computer. I loaded the Dynamat sound deadener into the cart at Summit which was some $369 before tax. The program posted a link to save money. I followed the link to Amazon where I bought the same item number for $281!

It's enroute...
Too late, but should have checked fatmat it’s cheaper and just as good.

General Vehicle Related Discussion / Re: New Tesla
« on: August 14, 2022, 03:41:26 PM »
Just confirmed that comment above. Trip length of 3,800 miles at a cost of $350 of supercharger station recharges.

If you had a car or truck which got 20 mpg, you would have to purchase 190 gallons

At $5 a gallon that would have cost $950

So operating this car in a long trip mode where you are paying the highest price for electric charging you would save $600 or close to a third the cost of driving a gas car

Then consider you are looking at a $50-$70 oil change within two thousand miles after and the savings really start to mount up. So we can comfortably say that you can drive a Tesla car on a long trip for about a forth the cost of operating an ICE vehicle.

And that is using very expensive supercharging, commercial charging.

The same man pays $68 a month, by charging at home and drives about 60 miles a day just work related for 23 days. He obviously drives more than just to/from work and probably drives some on weekends, but just using the work miles, we have 1380 miles for a cost of $68

The gasser getting 20mpg uses 69 gallons of gas

69 gallons @ $5/gal = $345

Now, the Tesla is really starting to stretch its legs with an operating cost of only 19.7% of the gasser (Not including fluid changes and gasser servicing)

80% less

And I might point out that the power company in my example here is not the same as mine. My power company does indeed have cheaper rates after midnight until 0600, so I will be able to operate at something less that the example above.
I think the big kicker on Tesla ownership is initial cost, especially in todays continual increasing inflation world. A 72k car on 7 years at 2% (which doesn’t exist I don’t believe) is 920 a month. So the real cost is right at 1000 a month with electricity.

You can get a Toyota Camry loaded for 40ish get 25mpg or so, at which point your cost is reasonable monthly.  Which makes me think ICE is still more cost effective for most. It sure does suck having to pay 4.50-5$ a gal for foreign gas though.

All that to say, I am simply waiting for the cyber truck to come out At which point we will consider ownership. And will drive our 74 dodge and 17 tacoMa until then most likely, maybe sell tacoMa for a duramax, we’ll see.

He just participated in and won the "Norwegian Ruck March Award"

The march began at 0400 this morning in Germany. Nate was amongst those in the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division who made it.

The Norwegian military sponsors it and is both present and certifies a soldier's participation.

What's cool about this is that the Norwegians were Vikings, and Nate has a fascination with the Vikings of old.

Congrats son!

The Norwegian ruck march is a Norwegian armed forces skill badge which is earned when participants complete an 18.6 miles (30km) ruck carrying 25 pounds in their rucksacks. Participants receive a foreign military “Marsjmerket” badge upon completion. The general rule is that Men must complete the Norwegian ruck march in 4 hours and 30 minutes

The flat pan I took a orbital DA to for giggles and polished up the top side.  Sure made non stick easy!!

The pot is from the same trunk and won’t get much use here at my house

Anyone know the history of these besides what I found on google?

That’s too bad! Them pots are great with a lid. We’ve got a friend here who has a 12qt cast iron pan that he uses for lots of things, but it’s the lid that makes it! You might be able find a lid without a pot you could buy.

Sorry to hear Shawn.  If its as contagious as reported, then you’ll have it soon. And that might be a good thing.  Omicron seems to give backward protection against the other variants but the others don’t provide protection against Omicron.  I believe once this works its way through we’ll be at the endemic phase and can get back to normal and punt all these control freak politicians to the curb.

Yesterday I had to go put two new batteries in the bus.  3 months after the warranty on the AGM platinum battereies from Advance Auto ran out….   Went with OReilly AGM Platinum Series this time.  Changed them in the parking lot so I could only do a cursory terminal cleaning.  Will take them back off and deep clean and coat them with anti corrosion gel.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Charles, have you found that the AGM last that much longer than a regular battery to warrant the cost? Or what’s the thought as to why buy the AGM? We need to add another battery to the dodge and was planning on just adding another regular napa battery.
No not really.

what AGM does better than others is handle vibration.

Little late to the party, but sorry to hear a new solider gets to deal with a disgruntled staff duty because of the wuflu situation that has been mishandled and abused beyond reason. I don’t for one minute believe it had to be a Stewart medfac test. This most recent iteration of the moronic variant is running more rampant than any of the others. And from what I see by the units around, tests are tests, and positives are being treated like a plague patient, ie, stay away from work.

May Kat have a safe trip home, and the new soldier continue to be light in a dark tunnel that is today’s military. Hope he is feeling better.

Chief, first off, congratulations on raising sons who love our country enough to want to volunteer to serve. Many may think it’s not a big deal, and while it is just a choice, the military is quickly becoming unrecognizable to what all here have served in. Which makes that choice a HUGE deal. I for one am thankful to see good man continue to stand up for what we all here believe in. Thank you to you for instilling solid principles, and thank you to him for stepping up.

Wife and I both run Fenix 5.. mine is the 5x sapphire hers is the 5s because she is tiny and it has the smallest face. Worth every penny, especially if you run, ride, swim, paddle, or any other number of things, golf for some of you.

Second set of garmin a for her and I, we ran the forerunner 645 for 5 years or better. So opted to stay with Garmin.

As for customer service, like Shawn said, it’s great. Garmin had a booth at a race expo we were at, talked to them about watches, and if they had watch bands. Lady at the table said let me see, dug through a watch band box and changed it out for us. No charge, instant service! Was super happy.

Chief,

I know the answer is no, but have you considered having a shop do it so you can just have a running rig in a couple months?

Different note, are you intending on the factory gauges to work or are you going to run standalone? I would think you could easily install the 6BT and run dedicated 4l80e computer instead of reprogramming suburban computer which would result in a drivable suburban in shortish order. Maybe I’m just oversimplifying it though.

Controller like this maybe?

Square D all over,,,,,,,,ouch.

Since everyone who knows anything is saying the TC is junk, send it back. Sure you can challenge the charge if they fight it.

If not I can understand the 6BT, but why a 4L80? I keep thinking about keeping my 46R, but going with a tap shift.
Sure I’ve only got 5000 miles on our 46rh, less than 1000 after rebuild, but I often wish I’d have put something different. But, it was cheapest, was present, and required no modification so we ran it.

The one huge down side of the 46rh is parts are becoming more and more limited by the day. Torque converters are ridiculous, core charge is 900 most places.

All that to say, something like a 4l80 makes some sense to me.

Awesome pics boss!

I wonder what it would be like to hook up the slings under that Goliath for the first time. Oof
...Nate, you did that right? If so, try to describe it for us civies.
Its real noisy
Very windy while it is hovering forward over you and the load
Touch the hook before you ground the aircraft and the static charge will probably knock you unconscious
Then when the aircraft is ascending to pull the slings tight it gets really windy
When the load comes off the ground and you're within 100-200 feet you are:
1. Inside a tornado
2. Probably flying as well
No one can stand in that downwash with a max gross weight load at an 80 foot hover.
Although I've seen many a fool try...
Chief, what do they use to ground it before hooking it?
