I cannot help but think of the movie staring Greg Kinear as a pastor, who's son dies/near dies on the operating table- think its titled "Heaven is Real" and based upon a true story.

Same can be said of "feelings" surrounding this site and Glorious developments you had premonition to, then were confirmed by another member- it's all around us, we just need to be aware and receptive!

Absolutely. Love this place. i'll have to check Netflix for the Greg Kinnear movie you mentioned. sounds good.

Movie and Book are titled "Heaven is For Real" the author and father is Todd Burpo, a small town pastor and at that time garage door company owner/installer in south west Nebraska. I highly recommend the book. I will say there was comfort found in it for me and my wife.

In April of this year a close friend of mine was visited by his grandmother who passed many years ago. Later in that week when he and I were on the phone I was talking to him about a dream. The dream which my wife and I, and some random lady ended up wrecking our pickup into a lake, tailgate end first. I remember just before hitting the water, then coming up through the water not knowing how we got out of the truck, and next thing I know we were on the bank looking at our truck on the bottom of the lake. The lady still there, but never said a word to us, she was just there. I came to realize it was her that actually got us out of our truck. In talking to my friend about it the goosebumps rose and I realized this woman was his grandmother, he thinks she was saying thanks to me for some past events. Retelling this now and remembering it so clearly, I find comfort that He is always with those who have accepted Him.

There is no question God is at work amongst man, just as Satan is. It is indeed up to us to listen when we ask questions to God, and know an answer is coming. Like wise we must always pay attention to how He could be working in our lives. I have learned that I often don't know at the time He is working, but I can look back and see He was working and always for my protection and betterment. Trust in Him, as He has given us the free will to do so and does not demand it from us.

so are we talking about just straight up died, chugged a bit and died, sputtered and died.................?

is there some sort of a safety relay on the trans that would cause it to die.....like when a torq convert goes out......to keep the trans from blowing itself up................?

I would say it was sputtering while trying to run at speed, but not bad enough to be of significant concern or so I thought. Once I pushed the clutch in to shift down it just simply died no warning, nothing, just no power. Then tried to start it and I'd get the "click" from the starter. Got it home let it set and it tried to turn over before the battery fully gave up, and by try I mean it turned the crank once or twice just not fast enough.

I was actually thinking along the same lines of a safety relay. But never got that far into it because of other duties, and such is the current situation. Trying to finish up class before end of day as it is the last day of class today, and being that this is my job it takes precedence... As much as I'd rather be out there looking at the truck.

Nothing real exciting of an update but figured I should throw up my recent experience. Currently I am ready to work but seems time has not been on my side and this weekend is the end of another class.

So, yesterday I needed to go pick up a couple pallets of feed for a friend and myself. I figured the power wagon was the way to go, with the flat bed and all. Well I made it less than 4 miles from the house, went to shift down to slow down and take a corner... As soon as I let out the clutch the truck was dead in the water. I was immediately confused, still kind of am as I haven't looked into for more than a few minutes. Found a blown 30 amp fuse that the alternator had to send power through in order for it to get to the battery, odd i thought. So I removed that, wife came up gave me a pull start and off I went as it seemed fine.

Well as I was going down the highway (less than a mile from where we were at) truck seemed to be maxed out and no more throttle response, I was barely doing 45 I would guess. Then as I went to shift down again DEAD! Again wife and the dura max came to the rescue and we towed it home. Then took the known reliable truck and got two tons of feed.

Fiddled with the power wagon when I ended up at home after off loading a never ending pile of feed bags. Didn't get real into it so I don't know at this time. Thoughts were of course the electrical system as each time it died the battery acted dead, then I was thinking bad fuel, and carburetor issues. It only would do this when topped out in fourth, it never did it before when tooling around the dirt roads near the house so that's my unfortunate no fun picture less update.

Blessings,
Turner

I have a 98 that has all the markings primarily stamped out. But still in 8mm and fully functioning. Honestly don't know what it takes to pull the action from it but let me know if your unable to find one.

Norm,

Forgive my ignorance of my rifle, but I couldn't tell you anything other than it is a K98 and it shoots 8mm. I know that is terrible but I was 15 when I bought it for dirt and have only shot it a few times. The one thing I can tell you is it is a rough looking gun... Accurate enough though. If you want pictures or any other information let me know I'll gladly provide them. I am sure you have something I want for my build too, so I'd bet we could come to a good deal for both of us if it is what you need. Just let me know.

I'd have to go with commonality of parts and rounds. Then there is the fact I've carried one and used one for significant amounts of time. It would have to be the AR. Just as many are familiar, they are common and parts are readily available when we begin to look, and .223/5.56 is probably in close to every house that house guns.

Which leads to resupply being possible when your initial load out runs dry.

That being said, my sons 10/22 break down sure would be superb as well because of size, noise level, and amount of rounds able to be carried. However resupply might be more difficult.

Norm,

I too have prayed over this and feel all will be well. I would love to hear an update either here or a phone call. I believe it took two miscarriages for the ovarian cyst my wife had to be found. Once found, a couple months later with 30 minutes of surgery and a 6" wound it was removed. Then two years later we were blessed with our son. God is with all of His children who know Him and believe in Him, and that no doubt includes you and yours.

here is the FACT about the US Army.

if you continue to get ribbing by co workers, peers and superiors you are G-2-G continue mission.  but when you stop getting the ribbing, you now have something to "real world" worry about (translation you F*#&$D up)

so continue the ribbing folks!!!!!!!!!!

While never been a marmi guy I did serve and wife still is. With that, I have been on both sides of this fact and can confirm it to be true!

On a build note, Don any rough estimate of what that rear bumper is going to weigh? Sure is a fantastic piece of usable artwork, but I reckon it has to weigh as much as some of them cars that may meet it! You do a great job of building tough stuff.

OK, where does Hank come from??

I sure liked AZ when I was on vacation a few times, just to far to get to from here if I need to.

So I asked a brother of mine for ideas. It took a few days but if you read comics or have, think Xmen. Dr. Hank McCoy aka Beast. So instead of calling the truck beast (which is what we want it to be) we chose to go indirectly with Hank!

With that said, we are going to put some miles on the Ramcharger today tooling around. I may go see what I can score that crew local to me for. Not sure why, like I need another Dodge LoL

Yea you could probably use another one :o you guys should drive out here, and check out some of AZ.

Alright Guys and Gals, Boys and Girls, It is officially go time. Although it has arrived it may be slow at first, but hopefully continual progress will be made. The end goal is a crew cab with a 12valve cummins in it. Wife and I have been wanting a simple and rugged/durable truck for a while. Cummins was also the go to power plant for simplicity and durability. The chosen body was something that took a minute to get too. We talked burbs (70s models) or crew cab chevys. Then I found that dodge made some crew cab power wagons and first gens, and I set my mind on having one of these. Took a few years to get one, but finally one was able to be purchased. After a few thousand miles in a few short days we had our crew cab home with us here in AZ. For a little more information on the decision see my original thread http://real-man-truckworks-and-survival.com/index.php?topic=1274.0 (couldn't figure out how to hyperlink the word thread, I tried).

So we bought the Crew Cab out of Montana, and the donor truck out of Phoenix. The CrewCab is a 1974 with a rebuilt 440 and NP435, and I even have the receipts from the work! Has D70s under it with 4.10s according to the numbers I was able to provide Tate. Mileage, well who knows and who cares. It also has the divorced 205 transfer case.

The donor is a 1992 (11/91) club cab 250 that has lived its life in AZ. It has the 12valve, a 4 spd auto and a transfer case I am assuming is an NP205 (haven't looked yet). This truck would a great place to start for a rebuild if you wanted a club cab, as much of the work has already been done. That being said we want a crew cab not a club cab, that was part of this whole undertaking it had to have four doors. I will be taking the axles, and drivetrain from this 92 and placing them ever so neatly into the crew cab. The pump has been rebuilt according to PO, and he bought the truck with a broken transmission so that too has been rebuilt. As far as I know to stock specs. Mileage, also not truly known, but after talking to a cummins man before looking at it, I am going to think its somewhere in the mid 150s. It doesn't blow smoke unless power braked, the oil drip tube on the drivers side of the engine (can't think of proper term) is not wet nor can I get it wet, and it also does not blow any smoke. Therefore I believe it to be a young and healthy heart....just the item we need! I believe it has a 70 in the rear again thanks to Tate and his number magic. Both front and rear tags state it has 3.54s, which is what I want as we will not be running anything bigger than 35s (so I say now).

So the plan.... Get started immediately, pull the unwanted boat anchors under the crew cab. Then pull the 12valve/transmission/transfer case. Do a bit of frame touch up and steering sorting and then install cummins. Drive like the dickens, pull back into the house and have some whiskey.

Just loaded ready to leave MT.

South of Casper at the beginning of my longest day (18hrs).

At home.

Original green...Thought about trying to bring it back...Not happening.

Donor of love just before leaving its PO's home.

More to follow of course, will add pic tours of the donor tomorrow.

If you are interested in any of the following please let me know:

rebuilt 440/np435
closed knuckle dana 70 front with 4.10s
dana70 rear with 4.10s
divorced 205 transfercase
almost complete 1992 dodge club cab body

I will gladly pallet and ship if you are willing to pay the shipping costs.

Anybody have a NP205 and a front axle forsale? I found a 2wd with the getrag in Phoenix which would certainly do the job, only issue is I need 4wd, and don't like the divorced transfer case, nor the closed knuckle 70.

Have to find a donor first. Once that shows up, well then I'll be all over like flies on stink, we could really use to have this truck operational with the 12v. The 440, while indeed a runner, is not conducive for a daily driver. Once it's a 12v and running, well then we will see some fixing up of the things needing love.

Well, made it home without any issues. I sure do love my duramax! Finished driving at 0230 Friday morning.

Useless information from the trip: (but still interesting)

2953.2 miles
41:14 hrs of drivetime
208.1 gal of diesel
14.67 mpg, (average from the receipts)

unloaded (empty trailer as I had the flatbed the entire time) I was seeing between 18 and 20, best was 20.6.

Avg price of diesel ended up being 2.58

Now a question, should the ensuing build stay within this thread, or a new one be started?

Nope not doing any liquid changes, drains or replacements. Oh wait I'll be draining the radiator! The drivetrain will be out in short order! Hopefully another heart will show up quick.

It's local lingo Turner  ;D

I think C-max went in for an Oil Change... and Square D was a total fluid replacement (still in progress as a matter of fact!).

I knew what they were talking about. If only from watching square d. C max was done before I even knew of it. I was simply just making a statement of intention, to stay away from the simple fluid changes, because they can last a long time if we're not careful!

Ok, Tate and koot thanks for the info it is much appreciated. Both of you please check your pm and give me a call if possible. I'm currently south of SLC headed to billings, and for all intents and purposes this truck is already claimed as purchased, and unless it's in terrible condition it will be coming back to AZ with me. I am stopping in Pocatello to look at a couple things, a front axle out of an M880 is part of that stop.

More to follow after each stop!

There are plenty of people out there looking for that closed knuckle 70 for resto projects that would pay a pretty penny if it's in good shape, but I would not run that with any confidence for a usable axle. I would look for an 8 lug 93 and older d60 front out of a w250 or w350 or a 78-79 ford 60 high pinion. If you have to fab up mounts anyway, now would be the time to do some transplant surgery. Parts are difficult to source and no aftermarket HD components are available at all. Other than that, I would look for frame deterioration, cracks etc at the stress points if there was body rust that had already been dealt with. You never know what someone has overlooked or is hiding. Really great vehicle to mod up in my opinion.

If I can find one, I'd love to have the high pinion ford. But of course I will gladly install an older 8 lug d60 from a w250 or w350. Have any options laying around?

Frame cracks around the steering box, check that
Jungle Jim sells a stiffening kit which you saw me install on Square D
Cowl cracks are common and no big deal
IMHO, the rotary pump is the way to go for a reliable every day driver truck. P-Pump is a lot more powerful (Maybe too much power??)
Copy what Tate said on the D70. With the connections you'll make here and with Tate, sell the D70 and the 440 and recoup 50% of what you paid for the truck.
Adding a bed? Or leaving it a flatbed?

Did not know that D70 was a desirable item. When I began looking into them, my first thought was "great ive got a big drumbrake front axle that can't be reworked," so hearing this news is great. I had planned on selling the 440 and np435. When I read about that kit from Jungle Jim it was something that I added to the list. Not sure about the bed. Wife and I have talked about both options, the reason the flat bed gets a vote is so that when we move again, which is inevitable, if we have a fifth wheel both trailers will have a tow rig. Would love to create a "topper" of sorts for the flat bad that could be easily removed, something that utilizes the 2x4 holes on the side of the flat bed.

Anybody on here up in Billings? Or want to take road trip?

Turner, in case you didn't know, Tate is the resident differential expert.
Oh heck, I guess big D is pretty smart as well, but I wouldn't listen to him. :)

I thought that was the case, from reading Square D build.

Hey Everybody,

I have included the links to the truck we are looking at buying, any and all input is greatly appreciated, if this is not allowed I apologize and please delete the thread, I didn't see this as being a no go in the rules (and yes I did read them, unless there is fine print that is not clearly labeled READ ME). The plan is to purchase this truck and a parts donor, and put in a 12valve cummins. There is an 91 donor in Tucson which would be a great option except from what I understand is it has a rotary pump instead of a p-pump that the 94-98.5 have. Now, I am new to the cummins so do forgive me if I am mistaken.

My concerns with the build truck,
-closed knuckle dana 70 up front, difficult or not possible to install disc brakes
-body rust as noted by seller during phone calls that has been repaired via cut out and new floor pans installed
-Entire drivetrain mounts will have to be fabbed, from what I understand (not a real concern just an awareness really)
-I guess thats it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^And the worst is our leader.

Somehow my trailer build just turned into a conversation about chinooks and cacti !!

Well I would say we both know there is plenty of that prickly stuff out here that we could share with the rest who are in this forum. Shoot, if a man raised saguaros he could make fortune, for some reason people want those things as yard art. I prefer to keep cacti away from me and my young one, as he would inevitably fall in it, just as many of us have done growing up.

What a site, I am glad to have come here! I recall when flyin6 began SqaureD, followed that beauty for some time, then life took over and I stopped reading about dreams (read owning a truck like squareD). Recently wife and I were turned onto a crewcab 74 powerwagon and it seems as though we will be buying it. Figured I better get over here and start reading again. Oh and we live in Arizona. Anybody want to come over and help install a 12v and 5spd transmission into the truck?
I'm Glad to be here.
