Did my part to clean up the environment, picked this up out of the middle of the road on the way home.
And brought a few bales of hay home from the neighbor’s barn for the horses...yes, he knows.

Dave, that looks like your garage.... if so get a cat to live in there, I don’t think I’ve seen a feed pile without mice living in it.

I do not advocate for taking up tuning, that’s one of them thousands of hours things to get right I think. See if the tuner has a fee you can pay for expedited service? It’s winter now, so maybe a smidge more waiting can be tolerated?

WHAT???

You built this thing for yourself...for your family

You love these old classics

Why sell it?

Why now? Won't fit the family Hawaii plan?

Having a difficult time processing all this

You are correct, we do love them. But our son cannot stand it, and hates getting into it each time we go to town. And shipping it to Hawaii is of course more than expected by twice and change.

When you have to own more than own snow blower, you might be living in the suck! :)
Originally I purchased the small blower with a much smaller driveway, 18th of the size of current.  The big blower came by way of a smokin deal for a low hour senior owner.  $300+a service I think put me about $500.

I still use the little blower most days because that thing is lite and fast!!

Yep, I don’t miss any of that. Which is maybe a little unfortunate because all of my family lives in Wyoming with no intent of moving. So we will probably never live close to them again.

If you can find it, aircraft paint stripper. Comes in a blue can. Has worked well every time we’ve used it. Napa carries it here. As well as the auto body paint supply joint.

Here is the impeller hub that was making contact with the bushing inside the pump. That has conflicting reasons for happening, but I think by me bolting it to the Goerend billet plate it may have happened.

Build Threads / Re: 74 w200 cummins crew cab build
« on: November 15, 2019, 12:43:55 AM »
Ok, I need to update this. Lets start by saying shake down run to Albuquerque went well. 15.5 hours with stopping for gas only, and the 1 hour to load the truck that had our short bed. Injectors and or Injection pump are weak, but thats ok it can be solved. We averaged just under 10mpg over the whole trip pulling a flat bed trailer empty the first half then with the 76 W100 the second half.

In September just before our eastern cross country trip I was trying to solve the stalling issue at stop lights and stop signs. After much deliberation with several folks, one of which is a Goerend transmission specialist and another is a cummins guru out of british columbia we solved it....i think.

First, the goerend billet flex plate that I purchased which is sold for the 47rh which has a lock up torque converter WILL NOT work on the 46rh. Sure the bolt pattern is the same, and it will bolt up to the torque converter but it leaves an unwanted gap between plate and torque converter hub. I emphasize it will not work because there isn't much information on this topic on the interwebs.

Second, our impeller hub on the torque converter was spinning at a slight angle, which caused it to make contact with the sleeve inside the pump. So thankfully Hughes, the folks I had rebuild our torque converter put on a new hub at no cost. Then they pointed me in the direction of where to find a new transmission pump and pump housing. Which I did and then installed and uninstalled several times, due to unforeseen breakages. After the fourth or fifth time of trying to get everything lined up and installed properly we finally had success.

After replacing the transmission pump we re-assembled all of the drive train without much fuss. Upon completion of this task we put the truck back into service, only to find that it was still stalling out at stop lights or any stop for that matter when in drive or reverse. It was at this point the canadian suggested a few items, one install the HVLP pump I had in a box, two set the rpms to 775 while truck is in drive with foot on brake and AC is on. I did these two items and the truck now will idle in drive at a stop light.

Then with some driving to and fro, we found the truck would never break 1100 degrees at WOT, no matter how long I kept it wide open, even when pulling hills. It was this that pointed us to the fact we need new injectors and or injection pump. With this information…. We did nothing. Just drove it. Then I turned up the fuel screw one full turn which helped, but still not proper and barely breaking 1100degrees.

Then this past monday (veterans day) we made the trip to Albuquerque to pick up the fourth parts truck, which is what provided the bed. The bed has been pulled, and installed, and then uninstalled for it to be serviced and brought into better condition.

Overall, the truck runs, does what is asked of it and without to much complaining. I’ve blown a couple boots on the IC but thats about it. Transmission runs no hotter than 145 even while pulling. It probably would get hot if pulling a big hill with a load. The AC has not been fully discombobulated but I know a guy who knows how to solve it, just a matter of getting the truck into his shop.

Sorry for the novel, I’ll post up some corresponding pics soon, they are all on the phone not the pc. To date, I believe we have put on approximately 1500 miles.

Anyone have a vibration in a steering wheel when slow turning.  In parking lot of a backing up trailer situation.   I tried to video or record the sound but no such luck.

Slow wheel rotation and the vibration lasts multiple rotations.

Sorry to hear Don. My 2001 always got about 12 mpg lifted and stock motor.

And remember boys. He has to have 2001-2002 wiring harness and FICM to make the conversion.  Different comm protocol.

That’s an expensive proposition.

Perhaps pulling the motor and having someone check it over and tune it in a dyno would be a good route?

It should penetrate the outer wall and the back should be open to the outside and a water drain to the outside as well for condensate

Is that unit have heat as well so you have heat and ac?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It will. That part of the corner will get opened up and be covered with a vented/louvred panel(s). They are actually due to arrive tomorrow.

No heat, just AC

Heater will be a propane catalytic unit mounted on the front wall

Have you bought your heater yet? Seems there is a wide variety out there, When brother Was building his 4wheel camper look alike He ended up with the wave 3, but after this season he is considering changing it next year.

He did what your doing, but with aluminum frame and siding, for a tacoMa sized pop up slide in camper. Modeled from the company 4Wheel Campers.

Yep, I got to it alright, and fought my machine all day, just to get 8 hats done. I asked my wife today if she ever gets tired of wasting time, because that’s all this machine made me feel like I was doing today.

Made this as a test, not for a customer. And it worked flawlessly. Customer hats, just about brought out the sledge to solve the frustration with this machine.

Holy moly, 57 gallons rear of the Axle!! I mean I see most of the camper is front of the axle but dang, that’s 456lbs of water. Then you add your spare swing out bumper mix thing you’ll have back there...that’s a lot of weight back there but, I guess because there’s only two feet behind the axle in total
Maybe you need that much weight to balance it neatly!

I look forward to seeing this continue to come together!
Yea, looking at it as is with all that weight out back, you may think it is rear heavy, but there is a lot of stuff still going to be added. Like 24" compartment in front of the camper along with a steel frame and interior fit out and gas bottle, frig, generator, batteries and other things, all going to be added well forward of the wheels.

Yea this is what I was figuring. It’s amazing  how much things forward of the axle add up. Figured this out the hard way on our last 5500 mile trip pulling with a bed load in the taco. Very nice work by the way! Wood is not something I’m very good at.

The wife and marriage is first priority and kids are second. That is easier said than done but it’s the way it needs to be.

Also a firm believer in this and have made it known to our son. A friend of ours commented to us about this before we had our son, and with it they also stated, marriage is not a 50/50 relationship, it’s 100/100, both parties need to work at maximum possible to endure hard times.

This kid is just liv9ing right or something

So today, we had an appointment for imaging of his elbow (To see if any fluid pockets remain) up in Liberty Township, OH. As we pulled off the highway right there sat a Cabela's!

So guess where we stopped after the ultra sound???

He wanted to look at that Benelli Super Nova, which it turned out that they had in both cammo for $599 and black for $499. We almost purchased it, but before doing so, Jim our salesman suggested we tour their library of used guns, which we did. And guess what we found in there? A Benelli Super Nova for $249 which we quickly snatched up.

I'm getting a bit jealous at these purchases.

I just may look for a good used 30-06 myself as a "hunter" and I sure am liking that Benelli as compared to my Mossy's, and winchester 12 gages...

Like a lot of men here, we turn to prayer for all of our struggles, first and foremost. I say this because it has brought my wife and I through some pretty tough times.

Money will always be a difficult subject if you don’t attempt to face it together. We live on one income with a small amount of cash from odds and ends I do as a stay at home father and house husband. So money is something we are familiar with asking the question of, “how are we going to pay for ____”

Absent from the room is a tough one, because if it’s a device that has her and or yourself removed, that can be a full blown addiction and has to be addressed.

Maybe change one thing in your life to try to become closer as a family. Dinner at the table vs on the couch? Or the other way around. All the while no phones or video games.

Start with something small, improve that one piece and expand from there. From what I’ve seen, there is nothing that can’t be overcome if both parties are involved in improving the situation.

As far as her job, that’s a tough one, because I’m sure it’s important for bills and what have you. Look at the cost savings if she became a stay at home mom, vs kids going to daycare. It might be more than you realize. Potentially approach homeschooling if it makes enough sense for her to stay home. This way your children get the education you want them to have, your saving money from daycare costs, and she can leave a bad work environment.

Lastly, this is one that my wife and I struggle with, but it’s all about to change because her hours are changing in December, but, you have to find time for you two a husband and wife. Dinner, movie, hiking, cycling, running, kayaking, fishing, sitting in a tree stand, something. We have running which we do together and have logged thousands of miles side by side, and crossed many finish lines hand in hand. Find something you can have as a team.

May God be with you during this tough time, and bless you with the wisdom you need to improve yourself as a husband, father and an individual. May He open a door for your wife to find new employment or a better situation.

Be patient, and trust in Him, He will help.

Chief, I guess I’m not following completely... is the end goal to put this in an 1101? Or use an axle from an 1101?
T- Not going into a 1011. Its a stand alone will have its own steel frame and independent high clearance trailing arm suspension.

I was just eluding to where this started in my mind a year or so ago. To build out a 1011 and roll with that. But that size limits me somewhat, so I just went blank sheet of paper.

Ok this makes sense! Thanks for watering down the mud so I can see through it! Good call on blank slate. My brother finished his truck camper about two months ago, he started from nothing as well! Good luck and stay positive!

Hey Ken, how would you rate that FJ in terms of being a decent off roader?

What about the engine?? Any power?

Do they hold up?

Earlier Toyota truck frames rusted to nothing here in the midwest salt climatic zone, see anything out there

You like it? Or is it a girl's car?

I’m not Ken, but I’ve seen them in places you should not take a girl that big. Of course they were locked at least in the rear. Mileage seemed to be no good from the bits of being around them. And when we looked at buying one we opted not because the back seat is basically useless.

What is you intended purpose? New toy?
I'm not buying one, just wondering about it. THe modern FJ is a bit of a mystery to me

New truck for me??? Would probably have to be a ZR2 almost certainly. But I'm holding with my current two.

And if I did buy a newer truck in the next few years, I would certainly keep the truck and Burb, as both are excellent vehicles

Ahh yea they are a weird rig. Not sure of any connection to original FJ.

I believe they are powered with the 4.0l 6cyl that was put in the 2003-2010 4runners, and 05-15 Tacoma’s. Decent engine from the few hundred thousand my family has collectively driven one. But the FJ is big and fat, which equals not a lot of power.

Maybe Ken will chime in, as he has driven one for a few hundred miles Id think.
