If you can’t tell, I have never shot competition. Didn’t even think about any of the above. I know a guy who custom built a light weight .280 ackley. Purpose behind it is so he can pack it into the back country and save a few pounds doing so, and still have enough reach to drop a bull on the other side of canyon.

That’s an interesting placement of the fuel filler....

Was the closest hole to bolt it to.... it just so happened to turn it vertical. Breather doesn’t work worth a darn though so you have to pull it out of the top of the tank when filling it.

Second trip to Tucson resulted in a win.... albeit an painfully slow one because the first piece of glass they tried today (second overall) was cut too small. So three hours later we had this!

AC is charged and blows cold, but the compressor is doing this weird on/off cycling thing. Going to check the ground again. Then try something else if it doesn’t stop.

Hydro boost problem is still very present, or what we think is a hydro boost problem.

Afternoon gents.
Surgery went fine. All fixed up.
The cocktail the drug dealer gave me KO’d me before I knew what was happening. Lol.
Woke up and well dealing with irritated throat and a bad case of hangry.
By the time I hit the OR I’m usually a lot of cofffee and two meals in to my day.

Then had to splain the severity of my ‘white coat’ syndrome.
After surgery when I was 110/80 to 130/88 I think they believed me.

Was small apparently so no mesh, and I’m outta commission for a few more weeks.
What a way to ruin a whole summer.
Oh well.

Thanks for the prayers, and now for some recovery.

And another coffee and some more ice cream.

Samm, glad to hear everything went well. May God grant you a quick and stress reduced recovery! Also, id have guessed you summer is near over by now, or do you have another two weeks before the two days of fall before winter sets in?

So far this morning I’ve talked to Nate on the phone, replied to his grilling thread, and I am about to go and put this nightmare of a home sale/purchase to bed!  Keep your fingers crossed-otherwise you may hear about me on the evening news! Just kidding but still funny!

No real update other than we’re just working out the bugs. Need to properly wire a switch for over drive, or buy the HGM computer.

Got the dash ready for radio install.

Made a panel to hold the vintage air thermostat.

Still looking for a bed, found a couple usable at junkyard but haven’t had the cash to purchase one yet. We’re getting there though.

Current plan is to take this truck and the fam from here to Arkansas down to Fort Lauderdale Florida and back next month. Move stuff for mother in-law, sadly re home our pups, possibly pickup some stuff and maybe deliver some more stuff along the way.

In retrospect, especially when I was away from home stationed in some crap hole, I would think of home every day. The days would take forever to go by, but then looking back, a year had passed, whole seasons and I wondered where it went.

Living day to day takes time, but all the years in the past went by so fast.

Many of us can relate to this. However I didn’t have kids while in those crap holes. And here we are 5 years later and prepping for our sons first big move, he was only 7mos when we moved from GA to AZ. Now five years later we’re going Oxonian. Crazy! But, if you look through the years I’d bet you could find God in each of them!

The hottest part of the year and my AC compressor decided to lock up. I replaced the compressor, lines, orifice tube and accumulator and flushed the ever living daylights out of the evaporator and condenser . Well the truck is a 2006 and it looked like everything was original. But my question is I can't find any info on how much refrigerant oil is needed for a 2006 Chevy 2500 with the duramax. The part store said 7.7 ounces but that sounds way to much to me. Any help would be great

Someone else will probably come through with the answer, but can you call a stealership service dept or parts, and ask them? They have the info it’s just a matter of whether or not they’re willing to share. I have gotten info on toyotas in this manner.

May seem silly, but I know a handful of folks who carry a .357 or .41. Actually know a guy who dang near got eaten but hit the sow in with a .41. He attributes the shot to his dog heeling the bear to give him a chance. Game and fish declared it self defense so no 10k fine.

Check the rules on the parks because I know for a while you weren’t supposed to have guns.

Never wore a bell don’t know anyone who has, just bear spray, a dog or seven, possibly a 30-30, or .41. And these gents are in the thick of bear country all the time.

So originally I had an appointment on the 31 of July in Tucson, to get a rear window installed. Could have drove it up then, but wanted to attend to a few other items before doing so.

That being said I rescheduled for today 2 August...

Left the house at 0830, and with only a few hiccups (blown IC boot) we made it only a little late to the appointment. So now I wait to get the last piece of glass installed, then hopefully we can take it into Sierra vista and get the AC charged, cause it’s hot!

Pre rear glass after a my road made a mess of the back.

So, many thanks to one of our own here, swbhobie16, he came out for a week to help me get this truck on the road. And boy did he ever help!!!! We went from a truck that I started by touching a cable to the positive terminal to a keyed ignition with gauges lights ac plumbed heat working, just overall much farther than i could have accomplished by myself in a week..

So from my family and I, we appreciate your help it couldn’t have come at a better time. If anyone needs consulting, you could probably get him to travel.

So today was the first day since I bought the 74 in 2015 that I put fuel of any kind in it....

And what the back of our truck currently looks like.

Thanks to all for the help you have provided. More updates to follow in coming days.

Need to take it to town and have the AC charged, that vintage air sure moves air! However I don’t need hot air being blown around in the truck.

What dose the ducting look like for the vintage air?

It’s like the accordion style soft duct with a spring inside. And black. With your knowledge and tools, you could probably fab up some smooth pipe type.

We out grew our small spray room/booth.  We built a second floor above the shop over the last few weeks, moved the spray booth upstairs.    Now the air in the room can be cleared in seconds which is nice.  The down side is the Air Conditioned air now get evacuated just as fast.  It was 105 in the booth yesterday. With sweat dripping from my beard I told the boss this has better be short term or I am out.

Truck is scheduled for rear glass and tint on July 31 in Tucson...

That means we have to have it highway capable by 0800 on July 31.

We’ve got a good friend coming out on Monday to help us finish up the loose ends.

We’ve spent this week thinning, sorting, and packing for our upcoming move.

Next to the sub, you get a sense for how big that bird really is

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
There's a whole lot more underwater!
And they do not necessarily stay stationary.
The bird, or the sub?
Navy Captains do not like to sit in one place. The name of the game is to keep moving. That makes flying and landing on naval vessels tricky. Depending on the wind direction you may encounter up to moderate turbulence just downwind of any superstructure.
So imagine hovering sideways (Moving) and having to keep a more or less precision position in potential deadly (cold) waters while bucking and kicking in some nasty wind. That and should you contact the tower you will obviously crash and potentially damage a very important piece of equipment.

Sounds exhilarating! Wish I could have got into that line of work.

Ok, got the floor and firewall officially done for what I will be doing for sound improvement/noise reduction.  The doors will be addressed when they are installed.

And we got the dash installed, which will be permanentized tomorrow.

On all of the edges of the dash I installed butyl rope so there is no metal on metal contact, in hopes to improve sound quality and noise reduction.

This is the rope I used, it’s a product from a sound shop in Tucson called second skin. They’re on the webz as well. Amazon has the best prices for this particular product.

You can see the black line across the window sill, that is the butyl rope installed. Which I then covered with the dash!

Tomorrow is a big day, as some of the final pieces are supposed to show up. The last item that will need to be purchased is a rear window of some kind. Which I am waiting to hear from LMC on, as they offer a piece of glass that is supposed to work from 72-93.

I called and talked to them about this as I have in my position a 74 and a 92 rear window, and they are significantly different. But I need the cab water proof so I’m looking for glass.

Installed some parts :)

So I started the day with pulling the alternator thermostat and water pump.

Thermostat and water pump were simple enough.

Old and busted...

Cleaned up this mess best I could

Then reinstalled the new, it’s a five bolt process because you need to pull the alternator.

So the alternator is normally an externally regulated type. The internetiverse showed that there is a way to make this a internally regulated one wire type. So I attempted that...

First put the thing on your work bench..

Pull the rear dust cover by removing the four nuts, 3 small and the one for battery connect.

This is the regulator from transpo.

Install the positive and ground cables under the cover.

Route green and orange cables through a gap on the edge of the cover and re install dust cover.

Then bench test it if possible.

Which I did at napa several times with and without regulator and found alternator was toast and only producing 8-9 bolts some times then around 3 another time.

Purchased new unit and installed regulator again. Installed on truck and tested with no voltage output.... so not sure if I did something wrong or if the alternator needs an exciter wire or something else. Or if I ruined another alternator let me know if you have any ideas.

Then I crawled underneath, pulled trans pan and dip stick tube and replaced both.

The tube is made by Lokar and I am VERY happy with it’s a locking type. There is a “pan but” that holds the bottom of the tube in the transmission. Then the dip stick has a locking mechanism on the top, same as the actual tube to the stub shaft I’ll call it.

You can see all the pieces here.

Nice machined filter spacer.

You can see the pan nut in the corner. Which secured the bottom section of tube into the transmission.

Here you can see the tube connected to the bottom section in the trans.

The top will be mounted to the firewall.  It
Seems like a very well thought out dipstick tube combo.
