When I was growing up nothing less than a 3/4 ton (bigger brakes/ axles etc) as they were real trucks. Now the 1/2 ton capacity’s are really surprising.....
Have seen a couple Toyotas and fords loaded up and they didn't look happy at all. Toy I saw only had a 5 lug wheel and aren't fords 6? Not enough for 10k IMHO.
You should see the size of brakes and axle shafts in the tundras. They are 100% heavy half quality. Only ever worked on a couple tundras but that still stands out as a simple wow factor of strength in those trucks.

Yep, pay it off. Keep and repair.
That or look for a few year old Dmax. They are out there.
I have 170k on mine, runs great even pulling 13k a few weeks back.
I drove a 2014 3500 today, It was nothing new that I desired, the interior was basic same same. Sure it was stock, quiet, less miles, but all in all. The truck was just like driving mine. Not impressed
Have your drive a 2015 powerstroke? They pull like a train!!! It’s smooth power, massive cab size, the ride is smooth! I am mesmerized by it!

The way I see it, do you need it bad enough to have a second mortgage? Because that’s basically the price of new trucks, which you know.

Recommend it to everyone? I don't even like walking out of the house to get in the truck. Smh
For sure! It was a blast, the stadion is only 3.1 miles with 23 (I think) obstacles. The stairs don’t count as an obstacle

Wife and I went for a little run with some strength training thrown in, and about a million stairs... got this at the end though!! Spartan Stadion Race, LOADS of fun with more stairs than you’ll walk the rest of the year !!!! I recommend it to everyone!

Thanks for giving us some of your time out of your work day!

Hooked up with another guy headed out west. Now we're stealing parking spots at little America in Wyoming.
Actually we're only using one spot. I'm parked in a goofy corner with no lines painted.

I have stopped there once, and i have driven I80 out that way more times than i would wish upon my enemy....lol
Once you hit evanston, wy. Watch your air, because you are getting into some pretty long and steep hills heading down to the I84 junction.
If i remember correctly, I84 going into ogden has some really nast 5-6% downgrades with some really sharp turns....dave can tell better as he lives right in that area.
If you are going I84 south into slc, i cannot speak on the roads as i have never driven that.
The big hills start outside of green river heading to Evanston. From Evanston to SLC is continued ups and some major downs, Parleys pass outside of park city I think it is, is six lanes for super slow traffic. Some solid turns on hills too in that area. Only ever pulled a trailer through this area into SLC twice, cargo trailer and a car hauler with the Ramcharger on it. Many other trailerless trips.

And after moving it I noticed this!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, am I ever going to get actually finished???
Oh and did I mention there is no cold air coming out of the AC???!!!
Looks reddish, trans?
Yea, that's my guess and initial investigation isn't good. Not conclusive, but looks to be coming from parting line between trans output and front of transfer.
Well if it is that location I’m going to be hopeful that it just needs a new gasket. Other than the heft of the transfer it is an easy job as you know. Ours was leaking from the same spot, but I knew it was because there was no gasket between the two.

LOL! I had a Division run at oh dark thirty this morning, and the quoffee afterwards is necessarily strong.
I am so glad that I never had to spend any amount of time in Kuwait just the few days it took to get in and out of theater were bad enough.
Did you fly through Qatar? I personally would take Kuwait over Qatar, but I was also stuck in Qatar because of plane breakage issues.... for ten days. And then in Germany on the flight for about 7 hours. What a return trip that was! Thankfully I was traveling solo so I was able to be an anonymous blender inner!
I took a C-130 flight from salerno to Kuwait and we stopped in Qatar just long enough to off load some cargo and to refuel.
Ahh, ok that makes sense. Which is probably one of the better ways to go.

Earthroamer manufacturing plant is just west of my shop. On way in yesterday I passed them test driving what I think was an F650 or larger unit. It reminded me of something along the size of an m35 on steroids.....
Those things are pretty cool. But definitely not for common sense folk, I don’t think. Considering I think they are essentially the price of a nice house, and probably get 6mpg. I got a short tour of an early one when we lived in Maryland years ago.

Turner, it sounds like the cap backed off the driveshaft side not the yoke side. I’ve never witnessed anyone breaking those girdles not that it couldn’t be accomplished by Don....
Rotation, we can handle that....
Ok that makes more sense. My first thought was, only Don could break something that has yet to have a reported breakage!

OK, alignment complete and I actually got to drive it a wee bit today.
So a couple of strange things happened. I expected some hiccups so i guess they have arrived
First of all, the truck did some idling on the alignment rack, then it had a test drive. A little while later I was backing it up back onto the trailer to take it hope and it starts just pouring antifreeze out. I think it was coming from the over flow and I'd say it puked between one to two quarts!
Why???
I have no explanation as to why that happened. I did have the reservoir topped up really well, so normal expansion may have accounted for the burping of fluid, but that much???
After getting home I topped it up more and it burped a little bit, so I'll call that one normal.
I drove it around the neighborhood then down the road and back and it seemed normal. In fact the temp gage showed nothing above approximately 180F.
Then I grab the pre-Ranger and go for a slightly longer drive and arriving at a country store to buy a peach tea, again, it seems normal, although the idle is way too low at around 500 RPM. On the drive home I romp on it at about 35 and it hit pretty well, then "Boom!" Followed by a strong vibration. I brought it to a stop and looked underneath, and discovered the driveshaft had shoved one of the U-joint caps out of its pocket and beat the other one half way out.
I pulled the driveshaft at home and found some damage to the end of the shaft. The U-joint cap bores were no longer round. So I tapped a bit with a ball peen, then forced an old cap into the pocket and straightened that business out. I put two new caps onto the U-joint Tater sold me and shoved all that back into place, installing new U-joint cap retaining clips to the outside seated into the grooves. So, call that repaired, and then the daylight ran out.
Through all of that I dropped my new camera and broke it. Yep it died, so instead of working into the night, I was off to best buy to get another new one. This one, you may recall was purchased in March (Short life span)
So, I guess I'm a bit rattled at the moment. I can't explain why the fluid is burping out, and the electric fan never came on, and now will this driveshaft hold up???
You broke one of Shawn’s u joint straps? Or was it a different end of drive shaft. Also, if you have a valuable personal property insurance policy, you might be able to add your camera to it. We did that with ours because USAA will cover anything that happens to it, even stolen if I recall correctly.

I don’t see how that would work all that well, considering you’re only sharpening the top of the tooth. Doesn’t a significant portion of the cutting come from the inside of the tooth? Thus the need for a round file....?

Got the seat brackets all painted up but no pictures. As well as the core support mounts painted, plus a few other bare steel spots on the frame. Pulled transfer case and installed the adapter gasket so it would stop leaking. Started brain storming how we’re going to install the twin sticks on the floor. Several options just trying to figure the best one. May modify the bracket that it currently sits in. Talked with the wife about it when she got home, and we’re going to create some cardboard cutouts to see if we may want to move it further forward closer to the firewall. Which will also require cutting of the original bracket.

See, build yourself a 12v rat rod!!! If I could keep it as a “toy” rather than a daily driver, I’d probably make it a mad max styled truck. But we need a full size pickup so it’s has to be properly finished.

spent all that time on the seat brackets and you’re still using a napa bucket.
ohh well.. if it works it works!
Seat brackets may be ready, but the floor had to be cleaned. Bucket did work well though!!! I’d have to modify to floor mount a bit in order to make it permanent...

In preparation for the core support to be mounted I had to make some minor adjustments. This hole needed to be smally sized! So I started with big washers... With my grinder and impact and some Time, I ground them down to 1 3/16” Finally product, a bit oblong but it worked well. Welded em in Cleaned em up. Will paint tomorrow. Also cleaned the seat brackets and started paint there. Then cleaned the interior welds. Here she is basking in the sun!

They want that much because that’s it’s value in scrap! Box van with an exterior cage like thing.... interesting!
TRN, are you looking for project ideas I take it?
Maybe......
I beat Ken to the punch on the 12V....I have to do something with it...
Would be a great power plant for a bobbed deuce. Much better than the heavy boat anchors in the 900series trucks. Im not sure who made the power plant in the original 2.5ton trucks, I know it was a multifuel thing but I don’t recall seeing many with lots of power. Maybe a rat rod?

I have a busy day today. I have a cured pork belly and loin going in the smoker soon. I have to a whole list of things to get ready on the truck and camper. There are not enough plugs for cell chargers, dash cam, and kids DVD player etc so I'm installing 3 more. There is a mysterious rattle that drives the wife crazy. I think I found it I just have to figure out how to fix it. I tried to explain that after 1.3 million miles things are going to rattle. Wasted my breath. Just shut up and fix it.
Jon, rattles.... that makes me chuckle. We have a newer tacoMa and then a 1988 Ramcharger. My wife drives the Ramcharger daily, and my son and I use the tacoMa.... there is one tiny little rattle/squeak in the rear door of the tacoMa drives me bonkers.... get in the Ramcharger EVERYTHING rattles, no problems. Wife is like, how does one rattle bother you but not the everything in the Ramcharger... Good luck finding it and fixing it. I have spent some serious time fixing rattles in a different Ramcharger years ago. Seems the rattles will chase each other around the cab. Fix one, another shows up.

Ok more progress... Started the day by replacing the HB unit. Then back at the seat mounts. Needed to finish up the center console bracket and tabs. These tabs ended up with a hole and welded to the center of the two bucket seat brackets. The jumpsole flat stock and main pieces were tacked in place here. First of four holes drilled through jumpsole bracket and tab. Second, then repeated on the front. After the holes were drilled, I removed the tack welds to the bucket brackets. And finished welding up the jumpsole flat stock. Finished welding up the tabs which the jumpsole bracket will bolt to. Cleaned the welds, and here is the finished product. Also finished welding up the bolt plates onto the floor. Now I just need to prep and paint the seat brackets and clean the floor. This piece is at least currently usable.

The jumpsole lift kit commenced with this bit of metal. It is 4 pieces of 1.5”x2” 1/8” thick angle iron. Then I chopped a long and short into this. Then tacked it together. A table would be helpful, as well as a vice... and 90° magnets... but I digress the ground did just fine! Repeated the process on the second two pieces of angle, and made them one. This one came out 1/8” narrow than the space between the bucket brackets. First one came out just as it started, 29 3/8”!!! Here they are waiting to be ground down. Then I took some flat stock and made some more rails for the bottom of the jump sole. It’s bolt pattern is longer than the bucket brackets. So it will bolt to these two pieces which will sit on top of the lift kit. that’s where I called it and came in to Make dinner. Will get the seat brackets all finished up tomorrow. Then will get them cleaned and painted.

I’m not sure where I am in the order of things. I just know I’ve been bouncing between getting brakes done, which they are, and the seat brackets mounted. So the brakes... everything has been replaced. I need to put the new hydroboost unit on still, but been trying to get these seat brackets done. Rear brake from MC to distribution block on the frame rail. Also found about this time, that my king pin bushings are shot... oh joy. Then I centered up the drivers seat on the steering wheel and made the stud mounts permanent, or mostly. Measured the passenger side to be the same distance from door sill and permantized those stud plates Then came the fun of figuring out the jumpsole (jump seat console). Original plan made it sit a wee bit low... This shows the angle iron tacked to the bucket seat brackets. Or maybe 4” And after the 4” lift it’s close to proper. So I had to come up with something to make it sit higher...

I got my trailer back today after getting a fitted tarp made for it, as well as a heavy duty water proof cover for the smoker.
both of the covers are made out of 20mil tarp.
now I just have to get 9 tubes of sealer for the roof of trailer and get 4 days of sun and no rain to get it stripped off and resealed.
Like SLC Dave said, kind o curious why you got a cover. They look good quality though. The grill cover is great looks like. Person standing with a poncho on.

Ok so got the brakes plumbed to the distribution block on the frame. Ran out of tube so I didn’t finish. Then found I need new steering bushings, yay! Fix one thing to find another need to be fixed. Also got my front bulletproof cover on and filled. Welded my seat bolts onto the bottom mount, then painted the inside that will not be seen but still want to try to prevent rust. Welded and nasty. Wire wheeled. Self etch primed. And painted! I need to add some more steel to the actual seat bracket which will be the center console jump seat mount. And that piece of the puzzle will be solved.

Nice job Dave! The only way I can describe the pain that isn’t going away, is like a fresh hit from a hammer on your thumb... gahhh. After opening it today, it certainly could have benefited from a couple stitches, but wife wasn’t willing, and drs office isn’t open. So it’ll sit as is.... painfully. Might have her install the calipers and talk her through the brake lines tomorrow. That would be awesome! Yes I think I will.

Small amount of progress and a decent step of slow down... Got both hubs/rotors back on and awaiting calipers. Then while cleaning the rotors this happened. Definitely worse than it looks. After it happened I immediately wrapped with clean paper towel with some bad language, then went back outside hollering at myself, then laid down on the drive way with my up. Have had it elevated for the majority of the time since it has happened. Swollen super painful, questioning if it ain’t fractured. Would be par for the course! Hopefully I can get in on Tuesday for another issue I’ve been fighting since February, will also get it scanned if I go. This is about 3 hours later. No ice. Iced it for 30minutes after this pic. Call me what you will, but doggoneit, stupid accidents on primary use fingers are the worst. Even ruint the rotors with blood... it just started pouring from finger upon it happening. Been a while since I’ve seen blood flow like that.
