Faith Discussion / Re: Prayer Request thread
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:36:39 AM »
2 seniors tragically died in our rural area in the past 2 weeks.  It's heartbreaking. There were both to graduate in the next couple days. We were just getting past Hunters then Halle's accident a couple days ago. That one hit me harder. It is my worst fear to lose one of my kids on a farm accident.

Please pray for these families.

Will there be a gooseneck ball in this truck? If so, you will not like the hard cover.

My $2,700 screw up for the day. I was blowing out the cooling stack and didn't get the fuel / hydraulic cooler back in place properly. When I shut the hood I broke off a little fitting. John Deere says it can't be fixed I got a new one showing up in the morning then I'm going to take this to a radiator shop and see if they can fix it.

After almost 3 years my Walmart cheapo watch broke. I'm in the market for a smart watch but I want to stay under $200.

It's been a year and a half since ce the last comment in this thread. As fast as technology changes I thought someone here could steer me in the right direction.  There are literally dozens of watch companies on the net claiming to be the best but most reviews say otherwise.

Somewhere to store his ball mount(s) when it’s not in the receiver I’m guessing

I’ve seen these plastic tub things on Facebook lately - made in the USA too. Of course now I can’t find it.

Then there is this stuff, but “not supported” on HDs

https://builtrightind.com/products/bedside-rack-system-rear-panel-chevrolet-silverado-gmc-sierra-2019

Or one (or two) of these

https://realtruck.com/p/undercover-swing-case-truck-bed-toolbox/
Thanks now I'm getting ads for this on Facebook. Clicked the link on my desk top computer. First thing I see when I open FB on my phone later is that Ad.

I did a little swapping/upgrading today
What am I looking at?

So you had a last gen D-max LP5...Is this something different?

I took off the diamondback tonneau cover and put an ARE canopy on it.

Now I just need help figuring out some sort of tool, strap, hitch stuff storage so it's not in the way.

HItch stuff storage goes under the back seat.

Boss man is having a bad week so far. Yesterday he backed into one of the tractors with the manure spreader. Got the radiator, air cooler, oil cooler, hydraulic lines, fan and likely fan clutch. Along with the grill, hood and all support brackets.
Today he blew a tire on the way home from supper in town.

I should have put this in the prayers section but if you have a minute add him to your nightly prayer please.

Put them in slideouts along the side. Bet you have lots of room there.
Is adding a small hitch hauler to the front of the bus an option? like a 2inch receiver winch mount.

I thought about a front hitch. That is a good idea. On the other hand there is lots of room under the floor. I had a generator in a large tool box with vents on the freightliner. I think I can cut a square hole in the skirting and mount a similar box to the frame. I seen pictures of that on the schoolie forum. Its one of those things where I need a 6 pack of beer and stool. Just sit there and look it it and ponder.

62
I don't leave my house to go to town without a spare. I would not go overlanding without at least one. I would probably throw another tire that fits my rims in there for good measure. If you have it you wont need it. If you leave it at home you will need it.

I get it licensed. They gave me the same plate as a car. I would have though it would be licensed like a pickup or a truck. I almost didn't get it done though. The head DMV lady walked by while we were doing paperwork. She said it cant be yellow. So they get the book out and it says it cant be "school bus yellow". Some quick thinking I asked what the title says for color. It just says yellow. Don't say school bus yellow. I say its been painted there is over spray on the black stripes. (There actually is I did not lie.) I say the past owner must have just painted it yellow to make it easier to hide the school bus yellow Because he had a Farm license on it. He couldn't do that if it were still school bus yellow. She agreed with me. Asked if the stop sign and flashing lights were removed. They are. OK then here's your plates.

The last few seats will be taken out. Shelves installed that could double as beds.

I have a hitch rack that I built in the shop. Twice as heavy and anything on the market but I cant use that and pull a trailer at the same time. May have to mount something on the tongue of the trailer.

I go the bus home and insured without doing an RV conversion. $30 a month for liability only.  Drove it home 300 miles with no problems. I ordered a hitch and brake controller. Going to change out the old radio. It has a mind of its own and the volume don't work. I have a few other things planned. We will see how it all works out. I have a couple old AC units form scrapped out campers. I just have to figure out how to run the wiring and where to put the generator.

I have always been interested in the sky. I tried getting into astronomy but I quickly found that I don't have the brain power for that.

There was a guy on public television when I was kid. He would tell us what to look for and when. It was fun finding all the planets and comets and stuff.

Watch a couple episodes of ancient aliens. I find that show interesting. Talks about pyramids and other things around the world humans built that may have been influenced by otherworldly visitors.

Remember the Foo fighters. Not the band. The mysterious lights in the sky during WWII. My grandpa served in both Europe and the South Pacific. I remember his standing in the yard late at night looking at the sky. Said he was looking for the Foo fighters. Haven't seen them since the war. I had no idea what he was talking about. When I got older and learned about them I got chills. The fact that as a young boy I was in the yard with grandpa looking for UFOs.

Bidding on a school bus to run the scout troop around in. Plan is to pull the back 6-8 seats and put shelving in there for for everyone's packs. Right now all the packs end up in a pile on the trailer floor and it turns into a huge disorganized mess.

The troop is growing. 2 years ago I had 5 scouts show up and just me as Scoutmaster. Now we have 8-10 members that show up consistently and 2 assistant Scoutmasters. In the next 2 years that number should easily jump up to 15.

Yep that's a floor drain. I wall have some updated pics whenever the electric gets done.

Sorry about your dog Dave. It needs a new home for sure. Maybe somewhere that he is the only dog and no kids.
Actually, in Nebraska if you go to the Dr with a dog bite that broke the skin the Sherrif will be visiting you and removing the animal. The dog would be evaluated and in investigation done. Then most time the dog is put down. I have not had that experience personally, but I know people who have.

Yesterday I taught class all afternoon. Introduction to leadership skills troop. It was supposed to take 6 hours with breaks but with a very small group we got it done in about 4. Had a pizza party after.

Had a pretty disappointing day yesterday. First off, I was bidding on a bus that we could use for the scout troop. Nothing huge a 14-passenger van with short bus body. There were 2 of them. I was out bid on both. I went way past my top. In today's world where everything is so expensive people sure do seem to have a lot of money. Auction stuff is sky high. it's a seller's market.

Secondly, we had our first chili feed fund raiser for our high adventure trip. We worked hard all day but less than half of the crowd that we expected. Me made chili for 250. served 75. I don't know where it went wrong. We had ads in the paper and on the radio. It was all over Facebook. On the upside the people that did show paid more than we were asking per meal. So much so that we did turn a tiny profit. We also learned a lot about making a large batch of food and we learned about how to serve it efficiently. Even though I am kind of down in the dumps about it I am confident next year will be better.

I hope tap talk gets fixed soon this logging in on my phone is kind of sucking. Had a lot going on this week. The skis on the old skidoo wore plum out so rebuilding them while we're a little slow in the shop. Can't find OEM and aftermarkets are going to cost around $500. We figure the whole machine's not worth $500 so we're just going to fix them. Welding some 3/16 plate in the bottom with rebar for wear rods.
The new shed is all done We are waiting for the electricians to come and get it wired up so I can start on Grandpa's 54 Chevy.

Had a good day of basketball today. Zane's team won both of their games and Jasper's team won theirs.

I was really proud to see Zane was playing point for part of the game. The coach's kid plays that position.

Zane was also asked to join the traveling team. It's a mixed team of 5th and 6th graders that will play in tournaments in Lincoln and Sioux Falls. That means more hotel rooms but his self esteem has taken a real boost. He has been fighting some depression so this is really huge for him.

That’s great Jon

Here’s a link that will come in handy especially as you travel

https://www.repeaterbook.com/index.php/en-us/

Some repeaters are internet linked and you can even talk to people in other countries in your little handheld.

Since comms are line of sight repeaters are often placed high on towers or buildings so you can communicate more effectively.

Most of them you have shifts you have to program to be able to talk and your manual on your handheld should walk your through that.

Thanks for the link. I also need to download "chirp".

Our place is sitting on one of the highest points in the county. So, I want to put an antenna on the new building. Eventually as funds allow, I can get one up on the grain leg. That is 80 ft. I need to be able to call for help when we are traveling in a desolate area with no cell service. That means having the proper antenna on the truck as well.

But first baby steps. I have a bad habit of going full bore on something then losing interest and wishing I took my time. This is something I need to learn about for our own safety.

I have decided to go ahead and start studying for my HAM radio license. I purchased a little Baofeng UV-5X3 handheld to learn with. I am a hands-on learner. People I have talked to int he Ham community say it's pretty easy. The same people say not to transmit because "they will find you" And "they" are not the FCC. I know better than to do that anyway.

First things first I want to get my little radio programmed to the local emergency channels so I can monitor what's going on. I want to take my time with this, so I don't get in over my head. My goal is to have my license and get an antenna put up by the end of this year.
