For a 5 lb slab I use 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon of Morton tender quick. Crush several cloves or garlic and pour on the maple syrup. I dont have exact measurements of that. I suppose  a coup or so.
I cut my slabs in to 5 lb chunks because it's just easier for me handle.

I have not bought bacon since I started curing my own a couple years ago. I finally tweaked my recipe to where everyone really likes it. I have a friend from the east coast that hooked us up with real maple syrup.  I have been putting that in my cure.

Got a couple more sheep yesterday. 2 100 lb feeder lambs. Now the kids have to haul corn from the shed down to the barn. So I decided Jasper needed his own tractor. L110 Deere. No deck, 700 hours on the clock. , New battery and full tank of gas for $140. Now I just have to fix the wagon.

First Cub Scout meeting of the season last night. I guess I am the new assistant Webelos leader.  I enjoy helping out and doing the behind the scenes stuff.

The Eagles club sponsors our troop. It just so happens the guy in charge of getting what we need for the troop had an affair with my first wife. Pretty much off and on the whole 11 years we were married. We dont like each other much. But, we have a good network. I shouldn't have to deal with him much.

Actually, IIRC, Area51 is pretty much shut down because everyone "knows" about it. It's still there to attract the wackados, but all the hush hush stuff is done elsewhere now.
Been that way for awhile

Everything is underground.

There is a small air base near Scribner Nebraska. Its been shut down for years.  They turned one run way into a race track then shut it down too. Some body is raising cattle on one run way the and rest are torn up. But if you go out there at night messing around you will be escorted out by a military security team.

During 9-11 there was helicopter traffic in and out of there. There were reports that the presidents Helo was spotted coming in. All aircraft were grounded. The only aircraft around was military.

Got my treasure home. We only popped a wheelie a couple times. Turning corners was interesting. But I only had to go 8 miles on gravel roads. I think top speed was around 15 mph.

Its too rotten for me to fix up. Now to get the engine and generator running and see what works for appliances. If everything works and I can get the brakes working easily it might make a quick flip.

As fate would have it this Motor Home fell in my lap this morning. I paid $500 for it. I seen the 454 and the generator and had to have it. Supposedly they had the engine and generator running recently. Whatever that means. Its 77 model year. license plates expired in 2000. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. That box on the back alone is probably worth the 500 bucks right there.

The wife and I are taking off for the weekend alone. I need some planter parts and they are 5 hours away. Rather than ship them I decided to spend hundreds of dollars and go get them. We are taking the truck and camper. Don't know where we are staying tonight. Figure it out when we get where ever we decide to stop.

I am really loving that Allison transmission.

Every switch has a computer chip in it. So every action has to be done a particular way. There are safeties installed that I would never have thought of. Example. I dump the air suspension in the truck when I dump the trailer. Then I take off. If I forget to air the truck back up a warning buzzer sounds. To put it in gear. Foot on brake, release parking brake then push the button.

Picked up 40 broilers I had processed. I vacuum sealed them. One bag didn't seal. After several tries I took it as a sign to put it in the smoker.

Also after being almost wiped out by a fox a few weeks ago one of my 2 remaining hens hatched 5 chicks. The other hen is on a pile of eggs. I hope she has a bunch.

6.7L cummins.......

Im a Chevy man through and through but I agree with this. Until I sold mine we had 2 duramaxes 07 classic and a 2013. We also have 2 dodges. Second gen 12 valve cummins and 09 with the 6.7 in a single cab dually. The 6.7 deleted with a 35 hp tow tune out performs the duramax in every way. Near 20 mpg pulling an empty 30 ft goose neck trailer. It is a beast.

My $.02 if I were doing it I would go with the cummins.

JR it's kind of the same way here. Many families that were flooded out can't rebuild because they changed so many rules. Some people have to haul in so much dirt to build up thier site it's pathetic. They can't afford it and have to move somewhere else. It hasn't flooded in over 200 years. One freak flood and ope better change the rules.

I came to this realization last summer. I spent many weekends dragging flooded campers out to a friend's place. Yea they were free. Yea I probably came out ahead in the long run with the free parts and stuff we sold. But it took time. Quite a few weekends that I should have been at the river with the family I was out messing around with that junk.

Camping this weekend. I've been fighting my camper fridge for months. Since it got hot out it don't work on electric and hardly works on gas. Yesterday my CO detector went off. After alot of searching my brother found that some insulation above the fridge fell down blocking the vent. Had to get on the roof and pull the vent off and fish it out. Seems to be working much better.

I went auto because when we are running the side dump trailers there are lots of short loads in soft ground. We might haul 20-30 loads and only drive 200 miles a day. I think it is going to be easier on the drive train. Smoother starts. No clutch at all. My last truck was a 18 speed. That's great for long haul but when you are loaded heavy drive 2 miles then stop sign. Go one mile, turn, 2 miles turn again, go a half mile then turn in a field. Bounce a half mile across said field. Dump and go back to where you start. That's a lot of shifting.
This has an Allison fully automatic transmission. Exactly like the one behind a Duramax in pickup trucks only much bigger. This isnt the first Allison on the farm. We have a silage truck that I use to haul grain with. It's awesome I love it. I would load 100,000 lbs and it would just crawl out of the field.

It's a hydraulic set up run off the the transmission to operate dump trailers.
