That beam should work. If the subfloor is not 1 1/4 T&G you might want to put a piece of 3/4 plywood under it

If one of those trusses is under it, I would box it in. Very little work for lots of strength.

I brought my safe home but it sits in the garage. Had to stand it up getting it out of the truck, what a job.

To bad they didn't set it up there during this phase of building.

That beam and those trusses are going to carry the weight just fine. That beam carries the load for the main girder for the font of the house. I'm golden ;)

Place looks great. The only real decision I made in building our house was the safe. I got the Cabela's branded Liberty Fat Boy 64. They had it in the store and the Liberty dealer had to order it. The wife was not real happy when I started taking the door facing off to get it where I wanted it, but it HAD to go. Even with 30" doors that handle center section would hit.

I hear ya. There was no way the Fatboy was making it up the stairs... The guys looked at it for 15 mins thinking of every possible option, but it was just physically impossible to round the corner halfway up on the platform. They told me the Franklin 36 was the biggest that would fit, so that's what I'm getting :)

Looks fantastic Kyle! If only you would've known the safe issue it could have been hoisted up pre-roof. Would have been a pain to work around though.

Glad they got it upstairs with wrecking anything. That cardboard wouldn't do much to stop a 600 lb safe tumbling down the stairs.

That's actually condensation! It was really cold outside, when it came inside and the cold steel met the warm air it started sweating ;)

800 actually, and you're right. Cardboard was just to protect from dings as they jockeyed it around the landing to make the corner.

Thanks guys! I'm happy to get all my stuff back here to the house... been in my other safe at my sister's place while i waited for this one. Will be like Christmas all over again! Only have a few pistols up here so far, so excited to get the rest, and my long guns back on site.

Thats great. Couldn't believe it on mine. Close to 2k on a safe, upgrades and the bottom was bare!

Course the only reason I saw it was I laid it down for the trip home.

Your stairway looks just like mine - 180* turn and the big window. That sure was fun getting our washing machine upstairs - me and my 73 year old father. Dryer wasn't as bad (no concrete counterweight inside).

Yeah, the stairs is really the only thing in the house we aren't in love with... it's a pain, especially when moving big stuff... But a grand staircase would have eaten up square footage, which would have meant no den. So it was a compromise.

Last weekend I got the caps on my retaining wall. I ended up renting the paver saw... Good call Ken and team.

Cutting dry would have been a disaster

Some pieces had to be cut twice on the radius

The driveway to the shop will be getting paved in the next couple months, and the concrete stairs poured where there's just dirt in the above pics

In the process of getting bids on landscaping too... 170 yards of dirt coming in, irrigation, grass, etc. Had a landscape architect do a nice plan for us, then they kicked it over to Mr. Ben Dover for install... So I'm getting more bids :)

Well, I've been pretty busy lately... Kind of MIA around here admittedly, but behold... Here's why. Over the last month or so we've been landscaping our property.

Here's the start, worked with a landscape architect to come up with a plan, kinds of plants, etc

Started with dirt... lots of dirt. 180 yards of a nice two way topsoil, half compost half sandyloam.

Here you can see what the ground looked like when we started.

Lots and lots of dirt

Rocks placed. These are rocks that were dug up when they logged and stumped our property, so i really wanted to use them in the landscape

Before irrigation install started and following plantings, i took the opportunity to dig down and run a line off a stub going into our septic for dumping the RV and ultimately tying the shop into it

Irrigation install started. 12 zones, 100+ heads, yadda yadda. Went with a Hunter system over Rainbird.

I also ran a natural gas sleeve up to the patio from the shop, where the sleeve comes over from the house... that way i can run a line up to the patio for a natural gas firepit down the road... again, no digging ;)
