To me the outlets look fine. There's gotta be some contrasting color and the small splashes of it doesn't detract from the overall room, the feng shui if you will.

Room looks great. I like the contrast, but maybe not so stark. A subtle shift in the force, if you will. TRN's got the ticket with the themed covers. But that's just like, my opinion man. You could get a nice area rug to really tie the room together...

If the Dude Abides. one of my favorite Sam Elliot monologues. Just don't often get the opportunity to drop some B.L. quotes in home decorating techniques, but I figured you'd catch it. we'll have to wait for the rest of the DOT brigade after the west coast gets off work I suppose.

Really nice house btw Kyle. and the air plumbed all around the shop w/ quick connects at multiple intervals is how I dream of it. And as you referenced the wiring, "buy once cry once", my neighbor always said you can get it good fast and cheap but can only pick two.

After much research, these vs T8's, I decided to take advantage of Costco's sale and go with these for the shop

Good choice! I have those exact same lights & love them. I can also attest to their durability as one was hung incorrectly & fell from a 10' ceiling hitting the JK hardtop on the way to the concrete floor. Figured it would be toast but hung it back up & still working fine today.

On sale for 25 a pop. A decent T8 fixture and bulbs would have been around 20. Plus Costco's warranty, done deal

Shawn, how square feet per light do you have in your setup? I'm going to be a little less than 100 square feet per fixture in the main shop area (behind the double door)

I have them on two different runs, basically low (one run) & high (two runs) the separate runs are staggered if that makes sense? Low is right at one fixture for every 150 sq ft & its acceptable. High is at one fixture for every 60 sq ft & I love it, everything is lit well with no dim spots.

Cool, good info. Yeah I'll have 3 rows (left middle right). Will be 10 lights for 900 sq ft. The right will be over the work benches. I might put a couple extra over the work top also, on its own switch maybe. That will be my "high"

Every 60, dang that must be bright :)

I have a couple of those, they work great. One over the lathe and the other in the shed, nice when cold as the LED works more better than flo's.

I have been looking for flat panels or recessed for up stairs, but nothing has grabbed yet.

I have two different ceiling heights in my garage. One is 9' & other is 10' (back part of garage is 9'). Then I have a couple mounted under my small loft which is at 7' & these are over the welding / work bench. I've never had a work space lit up like this but as I'm getting older it is very handy & I greatly appreciate good lighting. With that said unless it's a lengthy project the second run rarely comes on with the first. I'd say do your plan the way you have it & then fill in with more if you're not satisfied. That was the way I did it & for $25 a pop it's hard to beat......

Here's what I'm going for. The "runs" are color coordinated, meaning each color will be on its own switch, with switches at front and back

Doing some recalcs, I'm actually at 1 light every 80 feet

Less on the RV side, but that's not a work area, and the ceilings are 16'

Just my opinion but do you really think it is necessary to have three separate runs in the shop area?  I've been in a few shop like that and generally all three switches would be together and they all get thrown at the same time.  You are installing a bunch of LEDs so its not like your going to see much of a hit on your electric bill.

If it were me I would pull all the ceiling lights on one switch in the work area.  Then have separate switches for your dedicated areas/ additional lighting over your workbench that you can switch on when needed.

I guess if they will all be on 90% of the time you are in there then switch them all on one. If not, in my shop I have two zones plus the work bench area. I like Shawn's idea of enough lighting to get by plus extra when needed. Build it right once and be happy. Extra switches and wire isn't a very big % of total cost of shop. Even if they are for later use and never get used better to have them in place then having to tear apart to install later
Do you plan on having a drop cord on a reel that will need a plug-in? I used plug-in boxes to plug the lights into instead of hard wire, so power is available all over the ceiling area. Now if the ceiling area is going to be left open you can add anytime.  That is a very nice shop/garage/storage area Kyle.

Maybe a motion for 1 light in each shop and a switch for the rest. Plus the motion helps lets you know if someone is there when you aren't minus an alarm.

You could also just run the light runs all to one box and modify as seen by use.

The way I did mine was to have a small work area separate in case I didn't need whole garage lit up. Then the couple lights that are over the garage door (when it's up) are on with the work area but are switched off by the chain switch on the light. So if I'm working in winter with door shut I can have them on but during warm months they stay off as the door is bringing in ambient light.

Just a thought, but maybe push the rv lights a little closer together, and add one on each end...parallel to the door and rear wall...or at least the rear. That will be a dark area(s) once the trailer is in there.

Prob too late, but the 8ft fixtures seem to work well for me.  I have 4 8ft double tube in my 20x30, plus 2 beehive 300w equivalent med base florescent plus two 4ft double tube over the work bench.  Still not bright enough at times for my aging eyes.

Id probably do more in the RV area at a minimum given the ceiling height, maybe just another row of three down the middle.\

looking good Kyle!

meh, 10 ft ladder in the back of the truck bed and you can change them easily.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
