meh, 10 ft ladder in the back of the truck bed and you can change them easily.
If I didn't kill myself with this maneuver, my wife would LOL

Meh, that's how I wash/wax the front cap on the RV. Hadn't killed myself.....yet

Not like my 70 year old dad who ratchet strapped a ladder to the bucket of a 45ft boom lift because he needed to top a tree that was taller than the lift. I come over and he's out on the ladder with a chainsaw. I sat down and drank my coffee to watch. Mom came out and asked me why I wasn't telling him to get down.

I just said " he's a grown man, and he knows better.  I just want to be here when he hits the ground so I can laugh at him"

I mean, if you're going to run a saw over your head, why not make it exciting and do it on a sketchy ladder contraption

I came home one day to my 75 year old grand dad at the very top rung on a 32' ladder in the trip bucket on the front end loader of his wd45 so he could paint the peak on the side of his bank barn. Then couple years later at his funeral I recounted said event & my former uncle I no longer claim told me his Dad would never get on a ladder with a piece of equipment below he could fall on.  ::)

All this talk of ladders... Three years ago today I was having surgery to remove chunks of my radial head that broke off when i dislocated my elbow falling off a ladder... good times.

Went down to the state fair with the wife tonight. Had a corndog and looked at some wood stoves.

Think I'm going to go with the True North made by Pacific Energy. Have to get EPA certified where I'm at, and this seems like a nice simple stove. Have had multiple dealers recommend this unit for my application now at the fair, and home shows last year.

Lordy I didn't realize how expensive double wall chimneys are though, and install. 900 for the stove, 1225 for pipe, and 450 for install. Plus tax, but less a $300 tax credit come April.

Maybe I missed this but what is your plan for the walls/ ceiling?  Are you planning on running electrical in the walls or in conduit?  With the house project starting to finish up I am starting to think about my own shop build and think I am planning on steel covering the walls and ceiling and running electrical in conduit instead of in the walls.

Electrical in the walls. As of this moment, the plan is to sheet the inside with 1/2" plywood

I really don't want to do Sheetrock.... I like the look of plywood, and the ability to hang things anywhere.

Understand that aspect, but was thinking a balloon wood structure would go up like a Christmas tree in January if something started burning in there.  You have been listening to Don on your welding table set-up, so it's not out of the question!  ;D

Ya but at least his shop is separated from the house.  So that's your fire prevention technique I guess.  I am also doing 1/2" OSB on my garage interior walls and mine is only separated from the house by a double thickness drywall partition.  But for some reason, I am just not that worried about it.  Maybe that's because my fire department is less than 3 miles away.

Yeah, I totally get the fire retardation properties of gypsum, and the fire acceleration properties of plywood, but I'm really not worried about it either. To date I have done no metal work, and in the future only light metal fab. It will be mostly woodworking and automotive.... So I'm rarely going to be throwing sparks.

Sheetrock saved my house back in 06 when I had a garage fire. Worse damage was the FD with cutting holes all over the roof and all the water!

So in talking with an electrician today that came out to bid my project, I learned that to pass final I'm going to have to cover any exposed romex under 8', which means I'm almost certainly going to go with plywood, since all of my utilities won't be ran by the time I need to get site final. The other option is to put everything in conduit... Yeah right, especially since it'll be covered ultimately anyway. So I'll put plywood up which minimal screws to satisfy mr inspector, then it'll be easy to peel off later when I run everything else and insulate, then out plywood back up.

Man the building division can be a real pain in the ass.

Yep, did a lot of that in my garage too. You may want to check on the ply/osb though as they may not deem that good fire retardant wall cover.

Now if you haven't done the wiring, just get the conduit, not really much more $$ then you can upgrade when you want.

I just can't bring myself to do conduit... It's just wasted money, as the ultimate plan is to insulate and cover...

I have to be a good dog tho until I get site final. I thought I only had to get a framing insp, and then electrical if I elected to do that. Nooooope I have another site final (final inspection hold).

And the third option would be to final it now. Nothing says you have to finish or insulate a garage/storage area. If you do sheet it, it takes a lot of screws to each sheet of ply to satisfy those inspectors.

Pierce County... second only to King. ;)

Im trying to remember how my inspections went... i think i had everything signed off before i ultimately finished the electrical, insulation and drywall. Maybe just a plug or two and some lights. Probably helped that the electrical inspector really liked how nice of a job i did wiring the panel.

I am seriously leaning towards just running the service, and doing 1 light and 1 gfi outlet and calling for inspection. Then get final, and then start pulling wire
