I guess my logic is: if you balance a tire and it calls for X oz of lead weight on the rim. I would think the same could be added in beads and it should balance?

Wonder what it looks like spinning a mounted tire and wheel after bead applied.

Did blue LEDs for the dash, 4 were out and replaced the fuel motor. Went fine but seems all my gauges are + a whole bunch. Followed the instructions but still. I really like the blue with the orange needles, glad I didn't get blue ones.

Tried to do the 4x4 selector and hvac control, neither came out that good but still better.

Many how to's on youtube. But they just solder onto the board and are tabed. I got a kit that had a little prybar for the needles.

Fixed the gauges today. Speedo was a pain, kept coming up to 5mph not running, but still running 3mph over (at 70)like it was before. Having the CTS helped a lot.

If you do it on a dmax, the engine temp and trans temp are really bright. I would adjust the angle a tad since LED are directional.

Fuel is still off about 2 marks low. Full tank shows a mark below, others are pretty darn close.

3 gallon now for oil change with the 1807 and alum pan. Sure takes a long time to drain with that 3/8 hole!

Mileage has creeped up to between 18-19. Not running the kids to school and back helps but also think the tires are doing their part. Never saw 19mpg before with the square profile Maxx tires, these Iron man are not as square for the same size. Tad louder, run pretty good with beads and 45/40PSI.

JR, can't remember but did you downsize tires from 37 down to 35" or were you always running the 35"
Reason: I average mostly in the 17 range. 37" tires are expensive. Toying with the idea of using 35" the next time and lowering an inch. Idea being making the engine more efficient and upping mileage. Would like to see something near the 20 mark.

I have been running 4.56 for some time now, lift let me match up the front/rear.

I had 35's and went with 37s after I finally did the lift. With a 5' lift I still had all kinds of rubbing on 35s, so I went back to 35s. Iron mans are $200 each and I mounted myself. I have stayed with 17s as when you just to 18+ the price is even crazier! Got 1200 for the 37 coopers, still have the old rims to sell too.

I am at 4k rpm and the engine seems really happy. Not lugging it and not rev it either. I can do 75-80 easy and still just doing 2.2k or so.

that's what i'm saying and should have quoted Don's comment to be more clear it was for him more than you. he's geared for 37" too.

Pefect gears for 35's you said were 4.30, but not made. It ran fine with the 37s, but mileage was down plenty.

Since I tow heavy the 4.56/35s work very good. 70mph is fine for me 90% of the time, towing about 65, engine seems really happy.

Make no mistake, the 37's work well. But I have been using this truck for a DD for the past 11 years and along with that, I tow sometimes. With the purchase (Delivery) of the EV I will now only use the truck for towing and farm chores. It likes 2000-2200 a lot. 35's would put me in that range at a slower speed more appropriate for towing semi-heavy.

I'll consider it all when it comes to tire time, but presently I am at 75% tread life so it may be years...

Did you put any resistors on those LEDs? Look REALLY bright.

I did everything I could on my LBZ. It was definitely a project. 5mm in the big stuff, 3mm in the smaller switches/buttons. Even did the steering wheel buttons.

They are bright, 12 LEDs, but a little dimmer would have been nice.

Well, I am getting 18-19mpg highway with the 35s and 4.56s. Very happy with that.

I picked up a 61 gal aux tank that fits under the overhang in back and can come out easy. Bed slider makes filling easy. Just remeasured the tank little on the conservative side.

running 35's and 4.56 and 18-19. Sounds like you are getting about 1-2 mpg better than me. I'll get 18 to maybe 19 if I drive it like 45-50 on back roads to/from the farm, but generally no better than 17.2-4 for highway. I think I'm just outside the efficiency range of this engine with 37's. I'm going back to 35's and call it done for the next 130K

I think tire profile is key too. The last set were muds like these, but very square, not a rounded profile. The Ironman's I run are noisy but they sure grip great.

Have to say I like the tires so far. Think I need to have the alignment checked as I see some inside wear on the front, but time to rotate anyway.

Changed the fuel filters and looks like they are doing their job! Obvious signs of rust in the 10 micron water filter, grit too (probably rust), guess I should drain sometimes

No signs of anything abnormal in the Cat filter up top though and its running fine for 245k now.

Oil looks great at 50% use on the DIC meter (7500k change?) I mean it looks new, guess the full drain with the new alum pan, cat 1807 big filter and Rotella T5 are a good match so far.

Little update on the LBZ. Going pretty well, just passed 250K this weekend going to the ridge.

Got the gauges reajusted a couple weeks back. Trans, fuel and volts were off. Just moved the needles a little and good. Speedo reads about 4mph fast. Tach was strange too, was showing the right upper RPM, but wasn't going to 0. Then I noticed it was going down a little more everytime I drove it, now its fine.

Got a new dorman HVAC unit as mine was almost dark and vents were not functioning. First unit worked fine for 1 trip, then went blank. Lights were crazy bright (stock) and the white vs the green. Got another as OEM was $500, these were $170. Put some green tape on the bulbs and we are good now. Not as smooth (temp reg) as the stock unit but it works.

Starting hear a little whine from up front. Found the Alt bearing is bad and vibrates off on. Just got a new DB unit from amazon for a good price with good reviews. Current was from NAPA but had to be at least 7-8 years ago. Saved about $100.

Next comes a power steering fluid flush. Hey the stuff is just 17 years old now, how bad dirty can it be? Think it has a whine too.

Gone through 2 alternators, 2 master cylinders and a hydro unit. Still not bad for 250K

Rear springs need addressing bad. They are flat and on the overload as the norm and sag when towing. I think the bushing are eating up too. I am debating on going stock replacement. Use the Deavers I have, but take leave out to get the ride level I want. (They are 6inch lift now) Used springs I am finding on FB are 4 leaves plus the OL, mine are 3 now. Either way I go it will get bagged for towing.

Good job keeping that thing current and alive

On the springs, my thoughts would be to replace them with stockers and airbag it.

I have been on bags over my stock springs almost since new. I don't run all that much pressure in the bags, just enough to carry some of the weight, thus reducing fatigue on the stock steel springs. When a bag pops or gets a hole worn through it, I hardly even notice since I still have all the factory curve in them.

Wow, another update on this.

I posted I have a new Alt for it, but was hoping it would make it to today. Well it JUST DID, and I mean just. Smelled a burning taking my boys to school today. Smelled electrical, 5 minutes later the alternator failed, but I got it home.

Now here is the icing, was looking at flushing the power steering system and it went out too! I mean no steering, no brakes and its not charging. Now this could have been on my trip last weekend so I am thankful about timing at least.

Remember the Tahoe is down too, Elky is in service and it is raining good today.

I'm guessing as the alt packed in it ate the belt.
All on one drive belt, so likely alt went, or I suppose pump may have, but likely alt if you thought it was going.

I did that on my Suburban and got +5" out of it and it rides great...

Well, as I got into it I found the upper idler was sideways, still trying to get all the belt out.

Doing a new tensioner and both pulleys why I am in there. Whole new system.

The new Alt looks good, even comes with a spec sheet showing the outputs at RPMs.

Waiting out some rain right now. Got a little rumbling going to.

Back on the road. Rain quit today and I had to take off the pulley to free the tool. 1 pulley and the tensioner are good, so they will be spares.

Whole system is new, all Gates. Now it charges at above 14.5 like it should.

I would hate to do this on the side of the road,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Replaced batteries few weeks back, new interstates from Costco. Seem to last almost 3 years but believe I have a drain on them and I don't drive as much. Going to add a small solar panel to help with this.

Finally pulled the bed slide that was locked in from the release cable breaking. Has happened before like 10 years ago when leaving for the Grand Canyon with the whole family.

I had rebuilt the slide out some, but stepping it up again. Oringinal side rails were plastic, I replaced with 2" angle and drilled hold downs every foot and 6" of deck. This time I'm replacing the deck with 3/4 marine ply and the side rails will be 3/16 x 3". Holds down will be every 8" and adding a couple cross braces. Front was a piece of ply and will now be 1/4 bar.

If you look at the pics, you see only plywood holds it all together. Bearings seem OK, but will put new in for those too.

Front was a piece of wood too, replacing that with a solid bar, maybe angle. Brace the rear better and have a steel lip so heavy items don't damage the wood.

Wondering if I should replace the carpet with rubber or something. 4ft wide. Thinking of adding a 3rd roller to each side. The HD version has that and I just got 10 new bearings.

Don't think I posted here but I scored both a TCM and ECM while looking for a Tahoe door panel.

TCM should be PnP, ECM will need flashing to my vin and I will keep as a backup. I have been having to reflash the ECM to register every 2 years in Kali. (EFI has not allowed me?)

Both are stored in an AMMO can, in a foil pouch insulated from the can. You never know,,,,,,

Working on the Bedslide on off. Still feeling a off balance now and then. Clears quick, but weird.

Got the lower mount back into the bed after the bed got cleaned out pretty well. Scored a bunch of new sealed bearings on amazon. 2 were pretty bad.

Cleaned up all the rolling surfaces and filled the spots where the bearings had worn divots in the steel.

Now onto the top. Just filled its divots and smoothed the rails out.
