Grand canyon is such an amazing place. Very humbling.

Well we're getting some of that balmy Midwest weather....6 degrees overnight. 10 now. Perfect for pulled pork for tomorrow's game. Ha. No sipping sweet tea in the shade today though.

Dig another stump out with the JD 4410. As I was about finished, I apparently thought it would come out easier with a liberal dose of hydraulic fluid from the backhoe. I managed to snap off a hydraulic fitting from one of the hoses to the bucket cylinder.  Strapped the bucket up with a ratchet strap and pushed the stump out with the FEL. Going to have to wait until Monday to get a new hose. Took about an hour to get the old one out of the unit because of a couple bent bolt ends.

And of course the hydraulic fluid was just changed the other day by JD.

Don:  Danny from Limestone has some good things to say about you and your workmanship on your trucks. I know you’ve had to get hoses replaced, where have you gotten them?

One last quiet weekend at the cabin.
We're pushing towards -40 tonight.
Just ran HH6 to town, preparation time for our much needed vacation.
I know y'all don't all do it, but we're settling in on a beach in Mexico for a couple weeks.

Going to be a shock to the system for sure.
Figuring on cutting some firewood tomorrow. Supposed to warm up...-10 sort of warm.

And preparing for another interview on Monday.
Trying to keep options open, and this one will cut the bill for quite some time.
May even be it till retirement. Somehow when I go to the 10 year plan, that is the hot topic now.

I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Bible study, parents birthday, researching tile shower pan underlayment systems, and design layout for the bathroom in the casita.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Everybody I talked to recommended using the roll/brush on sealer.  You can make the pan what ever size you would like, use mortar to slope it appropriately towards the drain and then seal it.

I have had tile installers use this at work a few times on the second floor and above and never had an issue.  Just be sure that you tape the seams and follow directions.  After you put it in and let it dry per instructions, get a test plug for the drain and do a 2 hour water test before installing tile.  Sure will save a lot of work if a spot was missed.

Been listening to the book managing millennials today.    For sure interesting to look at myself and see where I relate to that generation but where I also associate more with the Gen X group

The resounding thought I continue to pick up on is the desire this generation has for positive reassurance but also the fear of making the wrong choice

I see this choice making problem with my son.  He can be asked to do three things but will do none because he wasn’t told which one to do first. I then loose my crap and reprimand the boy.   I will try this this weekend and see what the outcome  is if I tell him to choose what to do first. The following week I will suggest what to do first and see what happens.

I got the call today my Junior Ranger made the first cut for a High School scholarship at Fork Union Military Academy. Be careful what you say to your children, when he was in grade school and would get out of alignment I'd tell him "If you don't get straight I'm going to send you off to Military School". So he googles it up and finds one he likes and applies. If you have time if you'd say a little prayer for him I'd appreciate it. I know it would mean something coming from this group of strong men.

And also today I got the call I made it through the latest round of layoffs, so guess I'll have to keep workin'

Don I hope your knee is better.

Replaced a broken hydraulic line on the backhoe. I was able to go to the local auto parts fire and get a new fitting put on for only 7.58.  Felt like a win to me.

Don, Update
Friends-
Just so I won’t have to write a post op update about a hundred times I can report complete success. I had went through some sort of meniscus monopoly thing with holes, removals missing parts and a general cleanin’ up of things and it turned out great and I feel great! The additional procedure that Kathy had arranged to be performed while I was under a TBR (Total Brain Replacement) was, according to her a complete success as well. Not sure why she said that, but when I awoke I immediately handed all the credit cards to her, then told her I’d catch up with her in a few hours over at Dillard’s in the handbag section…Strange, but hey!
What I think is most important to note is what God almighty just did here. All too often we gloss over these sorts of things and just say, “Wow, I wonder how all that happened.” And in that, we fail to notice what REALLY happened. I was sitting right in the middle of me the entire time, so I got to see it all first hand.
Most of you do not know, but I am involved in a “project,” which has been steadily advancing and picking up speed. Suddenly about two weeks ago we started to clear obstacles and were looking down the barrel at some heavy duty briefings for some lofty folks. I was busy building stuff at the farm, family, me, and the church and not fully dedicated to the project.
Then I got a “Pause.” Right in the middle of all that, my knee fell apart. MRI later clearly showed a meniscus tear which the doctor described as the worse one can have on one side and a darned good one on the other. Only infants recover, so I was stuck with immobility and pain for the next how many years I would live…Not good…Or was it?
You see, I was then pretty much parked at my desk, where, I could make a choice. Have fun playing or buckle down on the project. Well, I began to pray and read his word. Joshua 1-6, John 14-16, Hebrews 11 and really search the word. I learned much and along with that the project’s obstacles started to yield. That’s a longer story, so in the spirit of Reader’s Digest, I got closer to the Lord, and my commitment to this work compounded.
The pain was not abating so Kat took me directly to an orthopedic center. I met a doctor on either Friday or a Monday, took an MRI in a day, which was read the following Thursday, either 3-4 days later. He told me the news Thursday night at 1745, and said although he did not like to operate, He would definitely recommend in this case.
Jokingly I said, “OK, Doc, let’s do it tomorrow.” He immediately answered, “OK, tomorrow!” VERY MUCH to my surprise. With no prep, no schedule, nothing other than a couple of phone calls I was in the hospital at around 1300, operated on probably around 1500 and home by 1830. The operation was a complete success, and I awoke around 0630 this morning and was working by 7!
The doctor, speaking with me just prior to going back to the OR said that it was rare how this all worked out, but a good think.
So, Luck? Circumstances? Or a living God who according to the opening lines in both Psalm 97 and 99 simply states, “He reigns”
I give all the credit for how this operation to my Lord and savior. I credit as well all those who petitioned him in prayer. “The prayer of the Righteous availeth much.
James 5:16 King Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Praise and glory to my lord, blessings and love for all my friends!

There is always time in the afternoon to order more gun parts,   I have been thinking about spending money on a glock to put shiny parts on and sit in the safe next to other things that collect dust

Then you have to buy a new bigger safe to hold all the new shinny stuff. Good part of that is you hand down the old safe to the wife and when she gets her/ your together stuff in the old one, you have lots of vacant area to fill with new shinny/ or not stuff.

You will be up and running around in no time. Just make sure you do all your physical therapy. My boss got his knee replaced and decided he didnt need therapy. They were too hard on him he said. So he quit. Then he limped around here for 6 months and complained it was sore.

No knee replacement!

Surgeon decided to remove the meniscus to get me going quickly, then come back in a few years for the new stuff.

I am now walking, and feeling much better.

Good to hear Don. Jon my MIL was the same way. Complained how bad her knee hurts but won’t do the pre-op PT and complains about having to do it before hell do the surgery. Stats show without the necessary and painful PT the results are less than ideal. In the dawning era of pay for performance for physicians you will see more and more physicians refusing to treat patients who are non compliant because their income depends on getting the right quality outcome.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
