Went on a little campout with the Nebraska preparedness network. No scouts on this one. I tried out my pup tent. It's a french troop tent from Coleman's military surplus. Reviews were really bad but this one  appears to be brand new. No problems except the vents that I can't shut off. This is a 3 season tent as best. No bueno for cold weather. The little pond I was next to made 27 degrees feel way colder.

I ordered some new jugs to improve my water storage they're about $20 a piece They stack and lock together neatly. I have some larger 7 gallon blue cans but they don't stack well and are too heavy for my wife and kids to handle them. These are 3 gallons and heavier plastic.

We basically just hung out and visited. We trade gear and more importantly share knowledge. We all have strengths and weaknesses. We help each other get stronger. It's always interesting meeting new people from all over the state.

I’m with you Nate. I was never given a tent unless it was a real rough deployment where I had to share accommodations with others. I once even had to share a villa with four other people in Riyadh. Usually we had our own hotel room and all the accompanying furnishings…..

Oh, you mean you weren’t even given a tent like that would have been better. Sorry, can’t comprehend, what with all my blue privilege being Air Force. ;)

Me too Nate!

One night at Graf, my whole crew went to sleep on the back deck of the tank with the engine idling! we got in our bags, then pulled the tank's tarp up over us. I woke the next morning with what felt like a bunch of weight on me. Turned out it had snowed the night before about a foot! Some of that snow was piled up on top of the tarp! I guess I'm lucky we didn't suffocate, but those big cooler fans on that giant V12 beneath us was pulling in enough air to cool a stadium.

There is no way that's a military tent.  It may be based on one but it's just nylon like a wally world tent. Directions were in french so no doubt imported.
Nate, I've gotten enough experience winter camping now that I am going to challenge myself to just use a tarp to keep the frost and dew off. It would make getting up to pee lots easier.

We’re between cancun and playa in Mexico.

“It’s hot.
Dammed hot.
Hot enough for crotch pot cookin.”

I believe is how RW said in good morning viet nam.

This is our accidental vacation.
We’re members at a vacation club.
Had a weeks worth of points going to be defaulted.
So here we are.

I’ll live.
But he three weeks at Christmas made me soft, so this will do me in for winter.
Good thing we’re on the tail end.

Around here they sell the animal, delivered to the butcher, for around 400 and then the buyer pays the butcher bill according to how you want it processed.    My last one was 458 pounds of meat and the butcher bill was like 280.  Raising it myself, I'm not sure I saved money but I know where it came from.  If the price is less than the store, it is probably pretty competitive.  Does he just want to get rid of a bunch of ground meat or are there steaks and roast mixed in?

Year old is “likely” still ok.

But I’d pay no more than 50% of retail.
It is a year old already so depending on packaging it may not be so good.
I’d want to see inside a few packs before any of my money left my wallet.

If opened ground beef, stew meat and it all looked good, tasted good also.

Stuck in that rock and hard place, meat prices are going nutz. The ground beef at the two local stores is at $5.99 a pound. I also don’t want to alienate my employer over the price. I’m thinking $350 a pound for ground beef, a few roasts and some steaks out of it

Don't see him changing that again. I recall the debate on that some and he ended up doing the right thing.

I like that Sean, been looking at adding a receiver to my steel tables for just that type of stuff. I already have a HD engine stand I built the has a rear end adapter on it, but it has been carrying a 5.3ls. Think mine will be on the bottom though leaving the top clear.

The gold mount on the table will, I bought a couple feet of DOM tube and I can make several mounts for it (thinking Toyota thirds next). The gold mount on the table is from a summit rotisserie for ford 9” thirds.

A lot of guys make an adapter for their engine hoist to pickup axles housings. It’s basically a tube T shaped extension and has two short arm at each end of the top of the T that slip under axle tubes and allow a housing to be picked up. Something I should probably do too but with a jib and forklift haven’t needed to yet.

I worked a deal I think that meets both our needs $500 bucks for all his ground beef which I’ll burn through fast and it doesn’t really matter how long it’s been froze unless packaged bad.

12 hours of work on my moms bathroom expansion and remodel.

New load bearing walls up and demoed all the other joists and walls along with all the electrical.

Tomorrow new joists go in and can lights and exhaust fan and Sheetrock the ceiling.

That gives them a head start on the remodel and saved them about $3000

The big opening is for a 36 inch pocket door.

No I didnt but will look.  Sounds nice.  My mom kept coming in and talking about ideas for other configurations.  I had to tell her that she spent 2 years thinking about this and we are going with the plan.  No changes.  They wanted to stop for long lunch and talk and yadi yadi

I had to tell them i was there to work and not visit.  I took two days of vacation that I could not afford to be away from the office and this was not play time.

Well, another 9 hours of work on the bathroom framing.

The original builder put waaaay too much stuff on a single circuit.  This one 15 amp circuit had multiple outlets in the bedroom and den and the entire bathroom (lights, exhaust fan, and a GFCI)

I took the bathroom off the circuit and roughed in two 20 amp circuits just to the bathroom.  One lighting circuit that has 4 can lights, the vanity lights, and a exhaust fan with 1500 watt heater in it.  Then an up to code 20 amp GFCI outlet circuit.  Years ago I took a 50 amp service to the electric heat and converted it to a sub panel with 4 breakers, two 15 amp and two 20 amp.  I had used the 15s ten years ago to power lights in the living room and kitchen so the two 20s are there and un used.  Love it when planning ahead works.

Here is where we left it.  New walls, all new ceiling joists, rough opening for the pocket door. 4 can lights, the exhaust with heater and sheetrocked the ceiling.

The yellow is where the original walls were.  The red is where the toilet will go, blue is where the new shower will be.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

A couple days ago my nephew's dogs got attacked by coyotes. One torn to shreds and the other severely injured. He only lives 2/3 mile from the farm as the crow flies. He has killed 2 foxes right in his yard recently. But as soon as they coyotes see a light they scatter. all you see is eyes and then they are gone.  They are getting pretty desperate out here. Every few years there is a cycle. We have tons of rabbits then tons of predators. They eat all the rabbits then the predators die off. Last harvest I didn't see near as many rabbits as the years past. Beside that threat I now have a skunk under my front porch and possum under my back porch. I caught one of the possums living under the chicken coop. It's had to trap them because I keep catching the dang stupid cats! If the coyotes are moving in that close to James's place, then I know they are here too. I am suspecting that is one reason the wildlife is moving in closer as well as the fact we haven't had a dog all winter. Speaking of dogs, we went and picked out our puppy last night. He gets to come home in 3 weeks.

I am going to order some more chickens, so I am going to make darn sure my coops are more predator resistant. I am worried about this bird flu going around. The state of Nebraska has stopped testing birds because there are so many cases if it looks like a bird has it then they assume it does.

It just dawned on me as I'm typing this. Maybe the coyotes are chasing the fox. That is why so many have been on his place just ahead of the of coyotes. If they would get a dog, they will tear into a fox.

about a week ago i knew they had 4 cases in the state, and one of those places was the costco farm there just outside of fremont. i havent heard any more about it in the news to know that it has gotten this bad?

does nebraska have a coyote season, or are they considered fair game like in south dakota?  does nebraska let you lure them in with a prerecorded coyote call....kind of like baiting them?
