Sam,  great to turn a page. New challenges are great.

If you manage younger people, I recommend a book titled "Not Everyone Gets a Trophy - How to Manage Generation Y"  Young people are not wired like we are and it takes different techniques to motivate them.  And unlike Don, we can't just yell at them and make them do PT......
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

That's right TRN, it takes a revolving door & the ability to let them know they can walk right on out of it if they don't like what you have to say & or can't buck up & do the job!

Yeah, maybe I never read that book.....

Trophy? What's that? I think I got maybe 5 trophies in my childhood.

Congratulations Sam, best of luck with the new responsibilities.

Cooked the momma to be breakfast, then went to work for a couple hours. Chief let me take the day off to deal with my floors so I came home. What a royal pain.

Oh I do enough stuff around home that gets the hands dirty, cut and busted up.
So I won't be missing that for a while.

Congrats Sam. Millennials are a challenge to manage but very doable. My common comment is "even if you are doing a great job when you are here, if you don't show up how good of a job have you done?" If they are on the job I can manage them and they will be successful. If they can't show up there is no chance.

My afternoon of sticking needles in my neck. Yippie!

Back to school today for me with the great kids - leadership training through tomorrow.  In some of the discussions, evidence of coddling snowflakes surfaced and reminded me that I've only got TWO MORE YEARS and every day will be vacation until I die!

Ha.  My comments to millenials is " I don't manage symptoms, I manage results"  I don't care if you are here 18 hours a day, if you aren't effective at driving business results, then you're gone.

How true TRN. That is what I am working on with the boys now. Output, not time spent.

Don't let retirement fool you. You have less time!!

Han to the local PD check on mom today. I am sitting in Santa Cruz again and neither I or moms nurse could get her on the phone. All is good, just the phone.

I bought a 87 chevy truck a while back for parts. So I started tearing it down. The body is shot and motor and trans are gone but it has good interior and frame and axles are good and still has the transfer case. The seat in my 82 is trashed so I swapped that out. Its even the same color. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. Either put my 47 chevy body on it or I have a good 79 chevy cab and front clip on a bad frame. It has a straight 6 and a 4 speed. I don't know I just need something to tinker with.

The glow plugs in the 82 quit working. I figured it was the selonid again so I got a new one. Thats not it so I don't know whats up with them. The guy that had it before wired them through a button under the dash and I don't know that much about them so I'm going to have to do some research and figure it out.

I drug both of these home. My wife is less than impressed. I got the Ford for $250. Straight 6. 5 speed 4x4. Waiting for the title so I can flip it. The owner passed away so I'm dealing with his daughter. She has mush for brains and is having trouble keeping all the paperwork together to get the title. Becides that she got her money and don't really care. Even if I don't get a title at that price I will still get my money out of it.

My wife gave birth to our newest addition this morning at 12:40. Beautiful baby girl, 8 lbs 12 ozs. Both momma and baby are doing great!  Still working on a name, but I'm sure we'll be inspired after having her around for a few days.

Congrads Dave. Girls always belong to dads (or is it the other way around?)

Dave, I used the paver lock. Works great. It stained the top of the dark pavers so sweep it off good. Had to have holes drilled in some and all held solid.

Thanks for the congrats guys. My wife deserves most of it, but I did have to catch her and hand her over, so at least I did something more recently than nine months ago. As for names, we don't really have any thoughts yet. But to give an idea of where we're coming from, here are the kids names so far:  Andrea, Lucy, Charlie, Jonas, Elaine, Clayton, Samuel, Ruth, and Abraham.   I'm sure it will come to us when the time is right and we are in tune with the spirit. Nice thing is, there's no rush.

Congrats Dave!

Today, I had family over for bible study and then did some non physical activity to let my body rest.   I finished building my 1U Rack Server and got it fired up and Windows 10 installed.  Plan on using it for a file server and a video server for the new security cameras at the Hide/Retirement place.

Supermicro Server MOBO
8GB of DDR3
DVD ROM
4TB WD Purple drive (for video)
1.5TB WD Black (for OS and files)
Intel Dual Core 3.2GHz (not fast, but fast enough and not too much of a power hog)
Thermal Take low profile CPU fan
Athena 400W powersupply
Windows 10 pro

Finished that and cleaned up all the parts strewn across the dining room table before moving on to installing a McGard tailgate lock (the fancy version of a hose clamp on the hinge.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I am looking for a dog now. Wifey is not crazy about it but everyone wants one. Looking for a rescue hopefully, lab or similar. Last add I saw was for $750, right. Papers or not that is robbery.

I know the Lt who runs the county animal control. May give her a call so she can watch for me. Local SPCA is nice but almost all pitbull or chihuahua.

I have always liked lacee.  Which is a variation of Lucy,

I am partial to Elizabeth

As for the dog, bullmastiff which is by nature a natural Protector without being aggressive, in fact most instances the bread will tackle and hold the intruder until owner released.

I am looking at a female for a few reasons.  Less competitive nature with my male I already own, less health issues and breeding possibilities.

I would like a male version for the added size (about twenty-thirty pounds) and bigger presence in the home.

Need transmission advice on my 07 LBZ duramax

Getting hot running on the freeway, seeing 210 on both sets of gauges

Looking at doing a trans cooler.   Are they easy to install? Is a trans service easy to accomplish? The local Randy's transmission shop wants $450 cooler, $150 install, $200 trans service.   What say the masses

I did the cooler flip and mine still runs a little warm. Just pulling hills it see's 200 all the time.

I have a setup designed to use 2 coolers on the sides with summit push fit lines. All told about $200 and it doubles the cooling area. Coolers are from ebay about $50 each.

You have to consider flow restrictions in size and number of coolers.  There is a thread over on that other place

I have called mikeL he suggested I drop a qt of fluid. I did that a brought my towing temp down from 220 to normal driving 190 ish.   On the freeway no trailer it heats up pretty good in traffic to that 210 temp.

Ken both trans and engine are climbing up in temp but the water temp seems to always be about 10 degrees lower.
I have had the stack blown out with Compressed air and that helped a bit also.  But that was only a few weeks ago and it's climbing up again.

Complete stack tear down and clean?
I want the trans cooler anyway, is it something I can do in the driveway along with a trans service?

Neither will a garden hose with a tight pattern sprayer.
You need to pull it and spilt it. You'll be shocked at what is in there.

As for the extra cooler, no clue, so no comment.

At my house it's all driveway doable.
No real specialty tools needed, but extra hands for stack removal would be handy.
I did straight up total removal alone, it sucked.

I think Nate had a solo variant that may work too, where you move the AC coil out of the way.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Big Dave mine was getting hot too. I'm going to do a cooling stack tear done and clean before I do anything else.
Does your Air conditioner work when you are parked? I've been told that If not then that's a sign that everything is plugged. Mine does not.

Dave, that's the path I would head down. Compressed air isn't enough on a diesel, if it's really plugged.

Gotta be careful with compressed air - can bend the fins. Might want to pick up a fin comb to straighten them out while you have it apart.

Cuda... I go every six months but I would rather take a beating than the dentist.
