can't believe that dog is unrestrained. aren't there seatbelt laws for dogs in CO? there should be. AOC, create the DOPTA, or dogs are people too act and make it a traffic violation, oh and make their owners refer to them in gender neutral terms since we don't really know how they choose to identify themselves. There is no longer any "good boy" or "atta girl", there are only dogs, unless of course they identify themselves as a cat...

So short update, Baylee is mia on this thread. Chasing boys I suppose or they are chasing her and she’s getting dinner and movies quite often. So often she doesn’t have time for things like putting the soft top on at night. So had a hard rain storm last night and tj interior was flooded again. Baylee calls dad at shop this am wanting to bedliner interior. She pulled nasty carpet completely out this morning after pulling drains. I informed her a bedliner deal will cause her to be down several days and quite a bit of work. Told her to look into rubber form fitting liners and she found a company making a water proof removeable bedliner type insert for these jeeps now. Maybe she will bless us with a link to what she bought?

My 20 brought boys home in high school. About prom time with three cute girls and three boys who al had teeth and all fingers attached. I simply asked who was going with who to prom. The boys all looks scared to death and said they weren’t going. My reply is still laughed about at our dinner table. “ are you all gay?” They didn’t know how to respond to that and I walked away. No boys brought home since.

Quick update,

Baylee decided a hard top for Wy winters would be a good investment so she sent Dad on a 3 hour road trip....

Gearing is an issue especially on the highway with the 4cyl so gears were in order. We found a freshly built 30 with 4.56 gears in it for pennies. As much as we like spending money w/ Tate Baylee is on a budget with an extensive wish list. So she sent Dad on a 4 hour road trip.... (sorry no pic)

Next up was the rear axle, a Ford 8.8 is all around much stronger than the turd 35. We lucked out and found one from an explorer w/ a trak lok and disc brakes 2 miles from the shop under a 2001 explorer (thankful short trip!). Took us a couple hours of wrenching to pull it and it was loaded up in the excursion, Baylee was a huge help getting this pulled.

Apparently the prior owner did not keep up on maintenance as this oil was ugly. Lucky for us Randy's Ring and Pinion will get us taken care of with some new shiny parts!

Baylee has wanted the jku since she was 15. Sam my youngest turns 16 in Sept, so she’s getting Baylee’s tj and Baylee is getting the JKU. They’re happy and Dad is happy, mom

So the tj is getting some love in anticipation of Samantha’s 16th birthday. We’re swapping in a dana 30 that already has 4.56 gears and undercoating the frame. Rear will get an explorer 8.8 with limited slip. New set of front tires and shocks all the way around. Also new steering components, timken unit bearings and pressed in new bushings in lower front control arms.

In prep for my youngest turning 16 in three weeks I started building the rear 8.8

I had purchased a mount kit when it was Baylee’s Jeep and stripped the axle then as well. Today I fitted all the components. However, by the time I got that completed it was almost a 100 in the shop and didn’t feel like donning ppe. That and we currently have several fires here in Colorado and the smoke is an issue working in a shop with doors open on the front range. Woke up with ash on my windshield of excursion today.

This one I picked up well used and needs some love. I’m going to put it on a frame with casters (like most things in my shop) and use it for axle housings. It’s actually next on the list for shop tool projects. Then after that I’m building a 2” wide belt sander & then who knows?

So in the process of slowly giving this tj a refresh. Sam my youngest turns 16 in two weeks and she’s getting a hand me down jeep. Added two new front tires, all new steering, ball joints, unit bearings and 4.56 gears along with new bilstein shocks. Currently swapping in a rear 8.8 axle w/ refreshed oem limited slip and 4.56 disc brake explorer axle.

This morning dropped old Dana 35 and broke off all 4 upper shock bolts. Waiting on new control arm bushings (replaces those in front too).

Ken, luckily the opening for head of shock is fairly large. So I drilled a new hole next to each broken bolt. Going to toss a stud in each new hole (nutted on both sides of frame. Why they welded nut above originally is beyond me. If my youngest doesn’t wreck this I’ll probably build it when she goes to college and pull body to facilitate a major drivetrain swap (4cyl now) and DD it. I miss my old TJ.......
