I should have listened to my wife
« on: March 14, 2017, 09:20:50 AM »
My wife is my best friend and often a compass for me when i wander aimlessly.

We had to remove a large pile of sand/dirt that was left over from construction here many years ago to make way for my mother in laws place that's going in.

Sure, fine. Let's do it. I need a workout.

I decided to dump the dirt back where i have some hay bails and want a berm. We loaded my 5x8 trailer up, hauled it out back towards the area. The ground is wet, but the granola burner gets through.

Second load was a bit heavier. Granola burner makes it to the dump site, but did have traction issues.

After we load trailer up for 3rd time, my wife suggests we NOT go back out there. I scoffed.

Granola burner gets bogged down in mud. I've always prided myself with that car in NEVER getting stuck, but that trailer was the ball and chain this time.
I had to drop the trailer in order to get free.

So now i have a trailer full of dirt sunk into the pasture that i need to get out.

No, the car isn't going back out there so i will have to do it all by hand later today.

Needless to say i was embarrassed, I apologized for not listening to her and now know the Granola Burner is not invincible... with a trailer attached to it.

Stewie, why didn't u use the 2500 suburban for this!? you got those fancy cooper atp's on it!!!!

Short answer - the truck would have sunken into the field and tore the crap out of it getting out.

So, lesson learned. Stewie 0.

When my 6wd dually got stuck by the pond in wet grass hooked to a trailer, it was the track-tor that made short work of the recovery.  Of course the dually had factory Michelin atx on it then which were worthless.

A warn M8000 winch on that suburban would have been cheap insurance. And for those who scoff at an 8k winch whatever I've seen first hand what they are capable of doing.....

Just a thought anyhow Stewie......

well, the winch is coming soon, but i need at least tow straps. i had too much weight on the trailer and i slowed down instead of keeping the rpm's up, too. shame on me.

i mozied on out to the field on my lunch break and emptied the trailer off and pushed it out of the ruts. am going to retrieve it last on this afternoon.

these were not the day of, but the following. water subsided a bit, but you can see where the problem(s) started. Trailer is empty and moved off to side in the pics. the day before it was about 8" into that mud.

clearing that was one hell of a workout.

Thanks Tate. I figured it would take someone intelligent to point out to the hippie that I was just razzing him.
... and I probably would have just left the trailer there, fully loaded. This guy's back screams at the sight of a shovel!

trailer was loaded down with dirt. If my "ricer" got stuck with an empty trailer, i would just disappear into the darkness and I NEVER would have posted this thread.
