I'm late to the party, the place looks awesome.

I'll have to swing by whenever I go hunting out yonder. There's hunts in the planning phase.

Cut three rafters before I caught that the tails were off. Cut 8 rafters and set 7 of them today along with the beam. Third down…..

Agreed, I glued them as well. Once the 2x6 outriggers are installed I may laminate another on the inside. Keep in mind a 2x8 can technically span that width and this is a 2x10. I believe it’ll be ok as it ties back into that second rafter too. In addition once the 2x6 outriggers are in there and toe nailed it will keep the rafter from collapsing.

Yep, the outriggers filling that void will help a lot.

Inspector didn't like I cut the ends of 2x12 to 2x8 to fit the header and brackets. I had to point out it was still a 2x12 as the strength was really centered vs right on the end. He did like that I used SDS screws on every really major joint.

Even the guy who did my room addition mostly from LVL did not know about the special simpson screws for the hangers. They where SO much easy than the '"special" nails.

I typically use 16D nails for Simpson hangers, in many other instances I use timberlok structural screws.

The palm nailer was the best thing I ever bought when it came to Simpson hangers.

Been there done that. The palm nailer is great.

You are making great headway, don't let me dampen that at all. With the kids out of school, all the events I just haven't got a thing done up there since May.

Porch is all framed in, half the rafters are set as of the end of the day. Should be able to get the rest set tomorrow then blocking Friday is the plan.

3’ overhang to the front or west end of building 18” on other 3 sides.

As I get older I get more creative on hanging long pieces of facia. Strategic placement of scab material help hold it in place and line up thing’s properly. Sorry no pics of that….

Wanted the short roof decked so it gives a guy a place to walk when setting those trusses. Other side I can use scaffolding.

One 12’ 2x8 shy of getting the rafter blocking complete. I’ll grab it and some 2x6’s for outriggers and facia in the morning.

I ordered some steel to modify the boom in order to be able to hang the trusses from it and set them on the walls which are 18’4” tall. I tried to rent a sky lift but none of them locally had enough reach and they were $500 for a day with delivery.

Was able to get a little over 3 hours in this morning before out of nowhere I was attacked by the feared and dreaded honeydo…….. so no facia up yet. I did get all the cut drops picked up and taken to garbage dump. May go out this evening once it cools down some and try to hang that.

Wife is canning blueberry jam, up next is black raspberry & red raspberry. Strawberries few weeks out yet.

Got up early & knocked out the remaining facia. I took pictures of how I hang this by myself. I use a block on top to set the far end vertically and then use starter screws on the 2’ stud / rafter center.

Started the day sheeting the roof. Got tired (hot & drenched in sweat) of that around 1pm and decided to finish moving fill to north and east side of shop foundation. On the plus side bouncing around in skid loader all afternoon I thought of a slightly easier way to get sheets on roof tomorrow.

Service tech came out this morning and fixed skid loader (had 58 hours on it and 3rd issue they fixed). Main line to pump, the fitting was loose and it pushed the oring out splitting it in the process. Tech stated this is maybe 3rd or 4th unit he’s fixed with same issue. That line is hard to get to and he thinks manufacturing isn’t getting them tight enough.

Finished up the sheeting this morning and the osb on the short section of wall above the roof. Currently waiting on titanium ice shield underlayment to come in (tomorrow hopefully). Up next is modifying the boom to have enough reach to set the trusses.

Added a few feet extra to the jib boom to be able to set trusses along with a hook on the end. This should grab under the top of the truss & allow me to set them on top of the walls now.

I had something like a 24-foot jib crane/pole on my SVL97 to set the trusses up on those tall barn walls. No problem. Like S said, trusses don't weigh all too much...Well until you get into that exotic 2X6/2X8 stuff...

Hired help is coming tomorrow morning at 8am so Curt my former lineman neighbor and I decided to do a trial run on setting the trusses & walking them in.

I ended up shortening the boom to right at 19’ & with neighbors help we devised a plan to use bowline knots and rigged the trusses with rope about 3/4 the way up the truss to get lift height we need. In addition I modified the modified boom and put the hook swivel out at the very end of the 19’.

Knock on wood but this should go smoothly in the morning. Man lift being delivered mid next week so I can install outriggers on high portion and facia. Then hopefully sheet the south side while I have the machine here.

I know it was much a younger man’s game but… back in the day we would have slid them up the outside wall. Walked the wall to the other side and worked our way down.

These days maybe not so much.. I might be talked into tryin it

I can recall being 18 ish, buddy got his gf knocked up in high school. His Dad was late 50’s, but helping him build their first house & I think they still live in it albeit with additions and three kids later.

Walls were all up, I went over to help set trusses on a Saturday. The Dad knew I wasn’t scared of heights unlike his two sons. Comes up to me, “so do you want to get up and walk the wall or do you want me to?” Lol, as if I was gunna tell him I wasn’t doing it…..

So tomorrow I may be youngest guy helping. We’re not lifting heavy chit, why I bought the skid loader……

Other option was to have them set on the walls and flip them up and walk them down. That sounds like work too!

We did a fair amount of setting them up inside garage upside down and pushing the rails up.  Then using a 2x4x18 or like to swing them the right way up.

I agree skidd much less workin.

4 guys, 5-6 hours (first hour ish didn’t count as we took a piece of rebar and bent it into a hook to lift with versus the ropes). Last 5 trusses we extended the boom to full length and set them from outside the building. 92 here and zero breeze up until last hour. However, the trusses are all set and I’m happy that job is complete.
