6.5 Grendel
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:29:54 PM »
Anyone run this caliber? Thinking about buying an upper for the girls to use deer hunting with me. 200 yards is a long shot in heavy brush up here. Light weight ar platform, adjustable stock and reasonable recoil for them. I can get into it for right at $300 as I already have assembled lowers. So just a complete upper & a couple mags.

People up in my area are using it more. Everything I've read about the straight wall calibers make it a great small person/short range round. I would like to get one and try it out but I have to be a responsible adult.

Are they using it for whitetail or just defensive?

Whitetail and similar sized game. It's mostly found in bolt guns up here. Of course I haven't really looked to see if there's ARs chambered in it. I think I've seen it in youth models and smaller stocked mostly with some regular sized ones mixed in.

Someone makes a lever gun with that chambering too?

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I thought Henry did, but theirs is a single shot.

I ended up with a 6.5 Grendel, waiting on a couple parts yet.

That's a good round too.

I think for intended purposes probably the better of the two calibers

I don't know the ammo supply in your area, so it's probably easier to find the Grendel as opposed to the Legend.

Zero legend on shelf locally, 3 versions of the Grendel by 3 different manufacturers. I bought two boxes and walked out the door.

Makes the choice even easier.

Needs an optic & some paint once it cools down here in a couple days I’ll spray it with a camo pattern.
