Build Threads / Re: SquareD Part 6 Starting to finish!!!

I'm liking the front bumper, kinda what I have in mine for mine but less plate.  How about a tube from the main top hoop to the lower one that goes around to the side fender to protect the front corner of the front fender?  Does that make sense?

If it doesn't have spark plugs I'm a fan, mostly of the cummins variety though.

I just bought one of these myself a couple of months ago.  I really like this truck, actually LOVE it!  I was getting 25 mpg mixed driving and 27 on the hwy traveling back and forth to Midland Texas, but I just put on some 285 Toyo A/T II's last week and the bigger heavier tire dropped my mpgs by a couple of points.  Still very pleased with the mpgs, power and ride!

Here is a pic of it with the new tires and wheels.

Hindsight I wish I would have at least looked at the ram box, the 5'7" bed is not exactly real big on space.

Very nice find on the donor!!

13
RMT?

Sorry about that, Roof Mounted Tent.

14
Lovin the trailer Don!  I'm wanting one also to tow behind my crew for extended trips to carry gear and put a RMT on it.

15
Don, does Jungle have a site, I'm getting close.

JR, Jungle does not have a web site.  You can get in touch with him over on ramchargercentral.com.  He does have is own forum on the site which list all of his products that he makes.

16
Dang Don sorry to hear about your family, but good to hear that they are doing much better now.

So on the driver side what all prevented you from using the plates Jungle sent?

17
I've been thinking about doing Jungle's new frame plates as well.  I will see how you like yours before I get in touch with him.  Only bad part on my end is my frame has already been powder coated, I guess I will just have to touch it up with some gloss black enamel paint if I go with them.

Good luck on your knee surgery Don wish the best for you.

Build Threads / Re: 1991 Suburban 2500 build and 6BT

On my 71 and 89 K5 blazers I built for street and wheeling I used Tuff Country springs on the front that I bought from Offroad Designs.  Like you I did the shackle flip in the rear on the 89.  On the 89 I had about 6" of lift with the combination of 4" Tuff Country springs in the front, 1" zero rates (left the axle in the stock posistion) front and rear, shackle flip in the rear and a 1" body lift.  This cleared 38" TSL/SX Super Swampers with some mild fender trimming in the front and rear.

The K5 road great on the road, I also did cross over steering as well, and flexed really good on the trail.  I was also running a D60/14B combo on this truck as well.

Only progress is ordering parts for the interior no actual work on the truck itself.

Your on the right track with the shocks, Bilsteins are very good shocks.

Are you wanting lift springs are stock ones?  Alcan makes springs as well and are a little less money than Deaver or Atlas.  Might give them a call when you figure out exactly what you want/need.

Thanks, hope I can do justice to her after seeing our build. We are kinda coming from opposite ends there. You started the build with making a new truck in mind and bought a new truck mid way. I have a Dmax and am building the truck it cannot be.

Yeah I got to the point where I really needed, in my mind anyway, a dependable daily driver and tow rig.  I could see the 85 crew cab project taking a lot longer than expected so I bought a new truck.

Looking really good and top notch work as always.

Hi Eric
Do you have a build thread going on over here?
Jim

Hey Jim!

Welcome to the site.

No I do not yet, I told Don once I start making some noteable progress I would start one over here.

You need to start one on the gold ramcharger your building.

Bruiser was my wheeling/rock crawling nick name with the guys I used to wheel/wrench with, which most were on the texas4x4.org site where I started the build thread for my crew cab build.  Later on I started another one on DTR and try to keep them both going whenever I make some progress.

JR your burb will be very nice however far you take it with the build process.  A square body burb with a 12V and sitting on 1 ton axles is really cool recipe IMO.

Too bad we aren't neighbors. Would love to come along side you and help with the project.

Nevertheless, it's another of these great trucks saved from the "Stack out the bed" crowd and eventual death.

Thanks Don and yes I see old ones sitting in pastures around where I live and wish I had the means to rescue all of them.  I'm sure my wife doesn't feel the same way though. lol.

Never thought it would take this much time or money to build this truck, I've had it for four years now.  I LOVE working on it and I'm not in a big hurry to get it done as I don't want to cut corners nor do things twice.  I want to get it on the road as quickly as I can but with the two amazing daughters we have and my work being away from half the year time nor money is on my side.  It will get done and it will be done to be best of my abilities.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the compliments on my truck!

I've got some parts coming in to get me going on the interior roll cage so I will be posting up some updates in the next month or so.

Thanks for the info.

I had one of his covers years ago on a 1977 Dodge M880 truck I used to rock crawl with and it was pure beef.  Just wante to see if his stuff is still the same.  I'll get with him after the holidays for another cover.

33
I like the looks of that Yukon air locker, I've got an ARB in the rear of my crew cab project and was going to get one for my front axle but will have to look into the Yukon version now.

How do you like the GLO rear diff cover?  I'm needing one for my rear axle which is a dodge version of your chevy 11.5 AAM.

AWESOME another crew cab build, I really like seeing these old trucks being built!

That one looks really clean.  Take it from me whatever you had to give for it and if it's a clean/rust free as it looks your a many dollars ahead when it comes time to paint it if you do.  I spent quite a bit, A LOT, of money on my paint body work.  The only original sheet metal on my crew cab is the two front fenders and rear two doors, everything else has been replaced by donor parts I gathered up.  That is including the cab as well.

Good luck with the build and I will be watching to see what you do with the truck.

35
On the sway bar I've thought about trying to use one of these.

https://polyperformance.com/shop/Universal-Antirock-Sway-Bar-Kits-p-17993.html

Haven't really looked at it close enough to see if it would work on the front of these trucks.  I do have a factory one but when I did the steering gear box support mod that closed off the factory holes on the frame to mount the sway bar too.

So what would it take to get that awesome build of yours posting here as well? we (Mostly me) would LOVE to see and watch that beautiful truck of yours coming up.

Welcome Eric!

Here is the link to the site where I started the build.
http://www.texas4x4.org/projects-forum-55/1985-dodge-crew-cab-expedition-dual-purpose-rig-36248/

When I start making some more noteable progress on the build I will start a thread on here, hope to get started on the interior cage/dash early next year.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the kind words about my project, very much appreciated.

Eric

Edit:  Here is a link to some pictures of a build I did a few years back to a 1977 Dodge M880.  I deleted the build thread after the truck was parted out, but it will give you an idea of what I can do with an old Dodge truck.

Man you are making some great progress on your build.  I'm interested to see how your sway bar comes out.  I'm going to have to do something different on my front one as well.
