That's pretty cool!

But I wonder if there is vertical misfortune from time to time on the push stroke?

I was wondering if that cartridge segment might be undercut to capture the bullet and base?
Pretty cool

Every cabin ought to have one...doubles as a drink holder, butcher block, paddle for those mis-behavin' youngins and a pancake serving plate!

Believe me, I had the same thought.
Will have to play around and see how it works out.
Have a bunch of scraps laying around the cabin that may have just been retasked from fire to loading board.

Upon third viewing I think you may be right.
Looking at the cartridges near the mag, the bullet seems to disappear, lending to the undercut being quite probable. I'm not sure about the base. Will need to get to a computer monitor to get a bigger view. Could very well be undercut as well.

I am building one of these right now.  In the test fitting before gluing it together stage.  It has a undercut for sure.  I don't have a router so I used another method.

Tilt footed reciprocating saw (jig) and two boards?

I used another piece of material to glue on to make the top of the groove.

This is the link to the one that I am building.  He also has plans you can buy on his web site.

Got it together and just stained it.  Works pretty well.  Still have to wax it up.  I don't have all of the Bob Villa tool collection so it doesn't look like the one in the link I posted, but I was looking for function.  I used a jig saw, clamps, and sand paper.  I let you know after I get it completed.

I was eyeballing that thing with an idea

First idea, do two ends, one for a standard 30 round mag, and one end for a 60 round surefire mag

My second idea is to build a table, for the farm, and make that a drawer you simply pull out to load up

Think of this option Don - create a double well shared by both magazine sizes.  Removable cross bar for bottom of 30 round mag. - then just run and load the 30 round tray side twice.  60 arc is probably too big to fit the curve into a board.

I only load a standard mag to 28, and the surefire to 58

That is cool vs all those thingys you can BUY that never really work. Now a CNC MILL you can have one in 10 minutes!

You guys beat me to all the upgrade ideas!! first thing I thought was make it for your biggest mag and build spacers for the rest.

Like the drawer idea too and the kids will complain less about loading for you.

Got it finished up and have to say it works pretty well.  Thumbs can remain useful well into a range day.

Here are a couple pics of the first one that I built.

This is with the GI mag inserted:

This is with Rounds ready to go:

The only thing bad about this is that it works with only the GI mags.

Here is the second one I built.  I like it better as I made it to accommodate GI mags and P mags.

This is the magwell end.  The peg holds the different size mags in place.  You could only build it to the end of the magwell and put that at the end of the table/drawer and load 60's or larger if you have them.

I mentioned it above but you could make this for any mag as long as you stopped at the mag well.  The mag well could be a little more low profile to aid in the drawer idea you guys were talking about earlier.

Random thought.  What would it look like if you had a fixture (or spare lower) that the mag clicked into.  As long as it fit in a magwell it would take the load.

You would need to be able to attach it at least on a temp basis. Mag release would be on the bottom. Bottom of bullet plate is 1/4" higher than bottom of mag well due to feed lip. I am sure that it could be done somehow.
