Re using the old bolts in a rare tip of the hat to Koot. :-). I have all new steering on the way in the form of a full Kryptonite Stage III kit. If I have any trouble at all from the pitman I'll send the core back with it attached and let them deal with it.

NLR. I get it now. It was also referred to as "dog town" back when I was in the area in the early 1990s. I spent 93-98 in LR before moving back to Texas. I still like AR a lot. Despite having spawned the likes of Clinton and Sheffield Nelson and a few others.

You think he has one of those old Ox winches on his CJ-7?

BTW, I owned two CJ-7's. First a 79 had a straight six with a 4 speed. I quickly traded that on a hardtop 1980 with a 304 and a 4-speed

First.  Welcome Sean.  Thank you for your service.  We enjoy and appreciate the freedom you and others on this site have provided for us.

I think I can "try" it more or less in a straight line.  Don't think I can turn fully.  The Toyos seem to have a really hard sidewall.  Shame since I only have about 10K miles on them and at the rate they have been wearing they would last 80K easily.  Of course it's mainly been a mall crawler or pavement princess.  The Pro Flo kit I bought for my dually seems to work well and be positioned well.  I'm hopeful that they did as good a job on the old body style

I think you know the answer to that....of course I'm going to buy a kit.  I can find 4 inch bends but 5 inch is really hard and buy the time I get it all, its not that much cheaper than a pre fabbed kit.

I've had good luck with the door panels on these trucks, I've had them on and off of this one and my original gasser many times.  I installed ashpalt backed foil sound insulation on the back doors a couple years ago and I still have a big roll so I plan on doing the fronts while they are off.

I'm thinking of going with an XL rated tire instead of E.  These 37s in E rating ride like they are made out of stone, even aired down to 40psi.  I think XL will still get me all the GVWR the truck is rated for and should be a little more supple.

LoL @ the anti- Norm build  ;D

I will have you know yesterday I got some used wiper blades at the local Napa. Someone left them in the garbage can out front...perfectly good.

When is your target date for completion?

Norm!  Thanks for making an appearance in my thread.  I love your pithy comments and practicality.

I have tracking numbers on the steering components and steering box so as soon as I get those in hand it should be a solid weekend of work, maybe two.

Then I have to tackle the waterpump which is leaking faster than an Edward Snowden NSA file....  I'm not looking forward to that.  The 260 lb/ft on the balancer tells me I'm in for a fight.

Then after that I have all new OEM headlight fixtures and park lamp fixtures to install.

Probably have to buy 35s and sell the 37s

Then I have a few niggling things in the interior like replacing a door panel because the handle mount is broken and then the power mirror switch while that is out and maybe the fog lamp switch

Oh and then I want to change the exhaust to a 5 inch over the axle and out the back system with a muffler to replace the open pipe out the side

I'll be done before the end of 2016....

9021
I hope that story is true.  Good for him.

Ok, so you DOTS are hard to reign in.

Here is where we stand.

Ordered a new RedHead Steering box...just because
Ordered a completel Stage III Kryptonite front end steering set up.  Including the Moog XD pittman and the Kyrto Deathgrip Idler.

Why do I get the impression that this is turning into a money pit.....

So for real work...

I put the HF press to work.  Got the ball joints and bushings out of the lower control arms.

Scrubbed them with a wire brush and purple cleaner and painted them with RustO enamel.

Pressed in the new Moog ball joints and the Energy Suspension poly bushings.

On the Chevy's make sure you clock the grease fitting to the rear and in that little depression in the top of the LCA.

I pulled the drivers side IC pipe and inner fender to gain access to the lines for the steering box.  Shot them with PB Blaster and headed to Sears to get a set of flare nut wrenches since i need an 18mm.

I also got my Amazon delivery of the new upper control arm bolts and cams

Everything (nearly) is a pendulum.  The pendulum has swung far too far for the unions.  I know ironworkers very, very well.  All chapters are not the same either.  The pendulum needs to swing back to the middle.  Unions do still have their place when working correctly.

But when unions are able to provide a skilled trained workforce with a better safety and productivity records, they command a premium.  I've seen it happen.  However, the union leadership has to be business minded and help the GC and the workers both understand the realities.  Only when both sides negotiate in good faith, does an optimal outcome occur.

In construction, the union has at times proven to complete work faster, with higher quality and with fewer injuries...which saves money.  When it's just monitized extortion for the same quality work then it's doomed to fail.

If I had a dollar for every rotor I turned as a kid working in a parts store....

I bribe the guy at the local brake shop to let me turn my own.  I just don't trust kids on lathes not to take .050 of each side when all I want to do is freshen the surface with .003-.005 removed.

Ken, your comments cause me to ask.  My LML has a bit of a wobble in the brakes but only when towing and braking from speed.  Could it be that the rotors are straight when cool and a little warped when hot??

Now in 2006 if Toyota had a diesel 3/4 or heavy 1/2, I'd be in it.

10-4 to that...

Toyota trucks are just as American as the big three nowadays.

One of my favorite rigs to this day was my 04 Tacoma... Loved that little pickup. V6 TRD, rear locker, 4wd, makes me sad all over again when I think back to sellin it lol

True except that the profits go back overseas.

I will say that the unions made the labor costs so uncompetitive that the big three can't compete in a global economy.  The only choice twas to move some production to mexico and canada or to right to work states.

And I say this as the son of a 40 year union iron worker..

One only has to look at Hostess.  Unions refused to negotiate and the entire company went under and took 15,000 jobs with it...

I read somewhere that $1500 of every car GM produced went to pay for retiree medical benefits alone.... and that was several years ago.  Best thing we could have hoped for was that GM and Chrysler actually went bankrupt.  That would have allowed them to restructure their debt, but more importantly it would have given them the ability to radically renegotiate their labor contracts....

So now you know Romney was right and Obama bailed them out to keep the unions backing him....

Well. Put a brand new mag in it. Ran about 25 rounds before it malfunctioned.  Lubed the bolt and ran through the last 5 ok. Will have to run some more through it tomorrow. Now I'm going to blame BigDave because the bolt won't stay open now in last round.  SMH.

I probably cleaned it too much. I think it likes to be dirty.  And boy does that can put dirt in it quick.

Shooting the LMT SBR tonight with the PVS and I got constant FTFs. Never ever had that happen on this weapon.

I cleaned it and put 3-4 rounds through it a few weeks ago. Stuck a mag in it and it would fire maybe 2 rounds and go FTF with the bolt over the top of the round with the round half fed into the chamber.

Seems lubed ok but tomorrow I'll break it down and re assess.

On a separate note I think I need to adjust the Giessele trigger. I got a triple out of it and a double or two.

For years, the left has defeated the will of the people through getting activist judges on various benches. If they can't win the battle of ideas at the ballot box they invalidate or legislate from the bench. That is why Obama put to radical leftists in the Supreme Court. Those are lifetime appointments and will harm us for years to come. Bush was too centrist in his choices and should have driven harder for conservative judges. Now we're stuck with Alito, and the two radicals, Kagen and Sotomayor

Happy birthday sir!  We need more men like you today. Perhaps they could kick this current worthless generation in the arse and get them straight.

My departed grand dad served in the Navy in Pearl Harbor. Never could get many stories out of him but he was there when IT happened.

The best stories are those that I heard on reel to reel tape when I was about 4-5 yrs old. They were radio traffic recordings from guys on patrol in Vietnam in various firefights. A friend of my dad's had them.  I don't recall how he ended up with them but they were intense.
