Title: Anyone in Omaha that might be able to take a look
Post by: TexasRedNeck on November 19, 2015, 07:45:29 PM
I found this on CL and contacted the poster.

https://houston.craigslist.org/bod/5278366975.html

Seems too good to be true.  Poster claims to be SSgt on a base with only access to email twice a day.  Boat belonged to husband who passed away and she's training for deployment to Afghanistan.

Claims the boat is at a shipping center in Omaha and she'll ship back on her dime if I don't accept it when it gets here.  Willing to run it through eBay Motors.

Obviously I'd like to inspect it or make sure it exists before sending someone $3k.

Any of our members close enough and willing to go take a look if she doesn't come up with some other excuse why I can't inspect it?  Would be willing to help with the expense.

That does seem like a steal for the shape it's in.

Thanks.  Nate, got your text.  Was at a birthday party for a friend of my wifes.  Bunch of Ruskies and europeans.  One of us was not like the others....

I'll give you a shout tomorrow afternoon

RN. I think it is a scam.  :-\

A google search on the Gmail address shows up with the same type of ad trying to sell a suntracker pontoon.

Thanks Mike.  Suspected as much.  I sent an email this morning that I had someone in NE that was available to look at it so I asked for a location and time to inspect.  Interested in the excuse that I will get.

What upsets me is that she is purporting to be a SSgt training to go to A-stan...

Good job Mike.
Hope someone nails her for what she"s (he?) doing.

I love Craigslist and buy and sell a lot of stuff on there but I HATE these kind of people. It is probably some pimply face kid sitting in Bulgaria just trying to hit one scam a month. I have driven 200 miles to buy a vehicle only to get a no show and then no contact after the fact. GRRrrrrrrrr

Not much you can do about it other than beware.

To close the loop and close the thread.  When pressed about having someone local look at it, communications went dead.  Reported to CL as a scam.  Thanks for the advice and help.
