Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Thank you Veterans!
« on: November 11, 2014, 08:29:31 AM »
For your voluntary service to our Nation, those of us who didn't/couldn't serve, thank everyone of you who answered the call and were/are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to procure the freedoms we all enjoy.

We also humbly remember and honor those who've paid the true cost of our freedom; God bless their families and friends deprived of their presence.

Thank you & God Bless you all-

« on: November 11, 2014, 08:12:29 AM »
Hello everyone, name’s Nate. I migrated over from Duramax Forum. I enjoyed it for a while but was turned off by the number of people posting about fancy wheels and how they don’t like Dodge’s with the mirrors flipped up; not really my style. I was  born and raised in the backwoods of Maine with what I consider to be true family values. My plan is to pass those values onto my children and hopefully do my part in reversing the decline of American society. I hope to learn/contribute here as every responsible member of a group should. Sorry for the long intro, happy to be here.

Welcome and don't apologize for a long anything, this site started over a prolonged oil change!  Do it once and do it right!

I'm thinking Nate (Cookie) and "Little Nate", especially if our new Nate is 6'2"+  ;)

Were you all aware that Thomas Jefferson declared war on the Barbary Pirates (Islam) and was therefore responsible for the creation of the Marine Corps.?  This conflict also coined the term "Leatherneck" due to the heavy leather collar on their uniform to protect them from beheading while boarding ships from the Saracen's Swords?

Marines: Excellent cure for the common Muslim Infection (Take 2 and call me when they're mourning)

Hate to see this SNAFU side-lining you- it's one type of frustration when it's your mistake/error, it's really frustration supreme when it's THEIR screw-up after you've done your due diligence and you still can't get things squared!

Find someone with an old beer can collection and make what we (as kids) called a polish cannon!  3 beer cans needed along with an old school can/bottle opener.

1st can- use pointy end to go around top of (steel) can, creating what looks like a star pattern, leaving space between holes.  At base of can, create your "touch hole" where you'll light the match.

2nd can- ventilate top and bottom the same way as the top of can 1.  Align holes of can 1 with holes in bottom of can 2 and secure with electrical tape joining along circumference (rim) with about 3 full wraps.  Wraps should be tight too-

3rd can- ventilate bottom as in can 2, then cut out top using soup can opener.  Attach to top of can 2 with holes aligned and tape the same way with electrical tape in previous step.

Take liquid "lighter fluid" like for a Zippo and squirt generously down opening, shake assembly like a spray can with opening down, stuff tennis ball in top.  Place on pavement and light match and touch it off at the "touch hole" and BOOM!

Tennis ball will fly airborne and nearly disappear from sight!  :o

You could attach thin line to tennis ball and you can hand-hold it like a bazooka and aim at upper limbs of tree, friends on bikes, sisters or brothers.....so on!

VERY IMPORTANT TO USE STEEL CANS AND NOT ALUMINUM!  With practice, you can really find the optimal amount of lighter fluid, shaking etc. and launch that sucker really far, along with some of your hearing.  As kids, local gas station must have pegged us as arsonists with the amount of lighter fluid we went through!  ;)

Depends on make-up of your walls of the house- wood frame and wall board is not going to stop slugs or 00 buck.  If that's what you have, consider who else is in the house you don't want to potentially hit.  I lean towards # 4 bird shot in "3 12g.

I see a lot of similarities between Don's builds and those trucks!  Exoskeleton bugger bars, bead locks, TAC Topper and even an extension ladder!

That 360 of yours is a very capable motor- can make it a stroker motor and push the compression and displacement up around 410 cu without much trouble and with the right cam, intake and carb set-up get plenty of torque and a wide power band on the upper end around 6500 rpm.  Raced a dirt car with one using 727 torque-flite in low gear, on 10" dirt tires with a miller locked "posi" on a 1/3 mile track.  Plenty of torque- enough to launch a 4000lb car airborne for couple hundred feet down the straight away...... Ask me how I know- Lol!

So after having the turn-table glass rattle around and end up all outta wack each time I towed somewhere, I cut a paper towel tube to length to solve the issue.  Well, that only works for so long and you must replace it.  Finally ended up with a much better alternative - pool noodles!  Cut a chunk to a little longer than needed and wedge it upright between the top of the microwave and the glass turntable!  No rattle or breakage!

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Inner Voices
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:19:58 PM »
There's a country song by Chris Young, titled "Voices" that speaks of dwelling on and heading the words spoken to us by our parents and grand parents throughout our, and their lives.  Often, we don't remember them until they're gone, or a life event reminds us of the hidden truths of their advice and sage axioms.

The Holy Spirit is also an inner voice that inhabits our minds from the moment of our salvation, until we're called into the presence of The Lord.  At times, it roars and rings in our ears like a trumpet and is hard to ignore or miss, at other times, it comes as a whisper as soft as smoke passing your ear.

It's that sudden urge to call someone we haven't spoken to for way too long.  A sudden impulse to extend a hello, good morning or simply smile at a stranger.  Perform a random act of anonymous kindness, or recognize someone publicly for things often overlooked.  We are moved to take a leap of faith, share with a stranger what we may "feel" they need, be it material or words- that unexplainable urge to act.

Far too often, we hear instead, the words of impatience, anger and selfishness......Satan speaks to us as well.  I know I've been tempted in word, thought and flesh daily my entire conscious life!  We need to hear and acknowledge that voice and answer it with an emphatic NO.

"Lord, open my ears that I may hear, embolden my spirit that I may act, strengthen my mind that I may know, and soften my heart so that I may feel and share your love!" -Amen

May we all act upon our Godly inner voices as we build this community, here online and where we live!  Do something you might have thought about or feel moved to right after you read this- God Bless you and those around you!  :)

We need to remember that the Kurds were originally set to oust Saddam BEFORE any of the gulf wars and were told by the US that we'd back them- then our government reneged and Saddam gassed them!

It's surprising they'll even talk with us after that- we need to pray that Israel takes the reins and does what our King Barrack won't, as a Musloid, determined to deliver us up to the enemy.      >:(

As a High School teacher, it is a sad situation and state of affairs!

We've taught kids and adults that "they're wonderful" no matter what they do, or don't do!  Education "theorists" want teachers to give kids points for doing "nothing" as a zero grade is mathematically "unfair" and puts them in a grade "hole" that's diff il to get out of.....?!?

You "must be careful" not to damage their "self-esteem" and feed into the "everyone gets a trophy" mindset with all we do..........

We wonder why kids/people snap?  The damn real-world jumps up and treats them REAL and they have NO EXPERIENCE with adversity and conflict or being told.......NO, I/we don't like you or your actions!  Your ideas and beliefs are out of touch, and WE reject them, so they get mad and "act out" because they don't know anything other then getting their own way for the majority of their lives.

PARENTS need to WAKE-UP and tell their school administrations that this bull-crap needs to STOP, because they WONT listen to teachers who tell them factually based "opinions" that the over the top, touchy feely crap has ruined generations!

ADD TO THAT, that they foolishly believe that by "forbidding guns" in schools make them safe.......?  At least my Principal (woman) is secretly glad I've got CCW permit and "have it in my car" secured....as is our School Police Officer!

Ever heard of a .264 Win Magnum?

It's my fav long range gun

With a 140 gr I think it might edge out the .300 at distance...

I have one in a Remington 700BDL I purchased from the Rod and Gun club in Kitzengen, Germany in the 80's

Borrowed one for deer hunt in Missouri 16 years ago from a co-worker.  Had OLD 4x scope on it and while sighting it in ran outta adjustment so practiced 'tucky windage at 100yrds to punch a hole in a quarter which I gave to the owner when I returned the gun.  He just grinned looking at it.

On the deer at 100yrds. It never took another step with a mushy heart and lung condition and a quarter sized exit wound.  Really liked the gun, round and performance, but getting ammo readily was a challenge, but then again, only used one after sight-in rounds!  Had a muzzle break- won't EVER use one again hunting without ear plugs!  Most damage I've ever felt to my hearing when I touched that round off in the tree stand!

2976
You can do a better job spraying Don!  Vinyl wouldn't hold up with gas and brush busting tearing it up.  You can also spray through mesh to give it small textural over-spray pattern after you give it a free spray, base pattern, can job.  :o

Have you thought about vacuum sealing some steel wool/dryer lint and adding a 9V battery in an old camera film canister? Press the steel wool onto both terminals on the battery, will light it. Dryer lint will catch easy as well.

Bobby's onto something...fire starting...

Another thing

If you know where an old dead pine tree is, take a hatchet and hack into the base
Smell the chunk you hacked out
Smells like turpentine, right?
Well that's because that's what it is
pine wood is saturated with it, in the stumps of trees.
While wondering aimlessly around the forests around Ft. Bragg. I'd use that stuff for the next fire
Carry in a plastic bag or it will irritate your skin...especially around your private junk...ya, don't ask the Warrant Officer how he knows that...

Always enjoyed lighting the ol Christmas tree on a bonfire - one winter collected all the leftovers off a nearby tree lot to use as snow fence of sorts on a farm I lived on.  Early that spring it started a fire outside and got a few hours of kicks tossing them on the fire, one or two at a time! ::)

YOU are going to BUY a stove?  Get two 30gal or larger steel drums and build a double barrel stove!  Max BTU's and you can Segway off this thread!  Had one in a suburban Chicago garage for winter race car building and it'd run you out if you over loaded or over damped it.

I took a cedar fence board and plained it into curly strips for tinder.  Took another 4 and split them into thin sticks.  Put 1/4 of the tinder into each vacuum bag and sealed them. Even if a board should break the seal, everything stays put and dry! :)

I get scripts from my Vet for my Doggy Triage kit- 250mg Amoxicillin 500 at a crack.  I keep this on hand along with surgical stapler - EASY to use as I've had the Vet examine my dogs and hardly able to find where; first use was 11 in one dogs chest after tearing on barbed wire.  Vet couldn't believe how well it was done.

Just used it last weekend in Iowa for the other dog- front shoulder and under chest.  Didn't find wounds until 6 hours later- scrubbed with saline and gauze until cleaned and bleeding - staples and Amoxicillin and next morning they'd almost completely sealed and well on its way to healing.

I have actually stapled a friends arm- self inflicted stab wound to the bicep with a spey blade on his new pocket knife.  After Kentucky Bourbon taken internally and externally, put in 3 without Novocain - jumped a bit the first one, not on last two.  Healed great in a week, took out staples 7 days later.

Highly recommend one for everyone's emergency kit.  Sold in KV Vet Supply Catalogue along with many other supplies who don't know you're not using them on a Dog/Pet!

Blaine's Fleet & Farm, Farm & Fleet sell all kinds of stuff for treating animals.  Needles for Goats etc. salves and topicals.   Dymethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) which is a transdermal topical that will carry things mixed in it immediately into the circulatory system- useful for drawing out foreign bodies like thorns mixed with Epsom Salt and a sulfa salve used on horses when applied under a wrap/bandage.

Radio/Comms / Re: GMRS: Who is using them?
« on: October 15, 2014, 06:41:48 AM »
Not familiar so I went to the FCC site and licensing is currently required for GMRS but no testing.  They are low powered but higher than the FRS (walkie talkie).  There is a proposal yet to be ruled on that would eliminate the license requirement (doubt they will remove it since that is a revenue stream)  If you apply for a license, the rest of your immediate family members can operate under your license.  Think of it as a higher powered more well constructed walkie talkie.  Range is likely to be about 1-5 miles depending on antenna height.  Hand held is likely 1-2 miles.

I'm pretty sure the 3 I have (lost one hunting Grouse) had no "license" notation or application when I bought them.  Have also used them pheasant hunting, deer hunting and running field trial events with great results.  Motorola models, small, easy to carry (loose) and tune.

Of course, just because I don't recall any license form, doesn't mean there isn't one; MOST people
I know with the same, probably have never broached the topic either.

Our friend Jane has a prognosis of Lung Cancer- the good news is that the Dr.'s feel they can treat it with surgery alone- no chemo or radiation.  Of course that's now, before they operate, but a blessing non the less!

Continue prayers that they can treat it successfully, AND they find the cause of her imbalance and short term memory issues.

Inside, it's too heavy and will carry through drywall - #7.5 won't really, but if did would hit about like a BB gun at worst.  :o
