OK, for the sake of research and reporting, I just applied for the GMRS license on line at fcc.gov. Side note, the site is completely reflective of the bloated bureaucracy that our government has come to be. The fee was $90 and now I wait. In the mean time I'll start researching radios for the family. My license will cover my wife and kids who will never be HAMs more than likely. Stay tuned!

Gents, I'm at my outer limit of experience when it comes to LSD/Lockers. When we raced, it was spool or nothing.
For my 2001 LB7, I'm investigating upgrades to the front and rear diffs. I will probably start with the front.
What brands/types do you like and why? I like the idea of a selectable locker like the ARB and I plan on having on board air like I do on the Dually. If I have it in 4WD, its going to be off road and will benefit from a locking front diff.

Ken, congratulations on the plasma purchase. I just got my first MIG machine (lincoln 180) and am just starting to research plasmas. (my father is a 40 year welder/ironworker so I used to just go to his house for metalwork) Why did you choose this particular brand, as opposed to Thermal Arc, Hobart, Miller, etc? I was tempted to by a cheap chinese throwaway like the CUT50 from fleabay just to get going, but am trying to adhere to the buy once cry once mantra.

Yes, I am in the market for a replacement pair. I have a set that the girls use when we are camping for me to keep tabs on them when they are out of ear shot and out of sight (they are 9 and 11) and one went toes up recently. They ate batteries like crazy (AAA) and rechargeable would be nice. They were Midland and about $40 a pair. I want a rugged set and don't mind spending a little more to get a good set.

Did you know that it wasn't until the mid 1800s that protestants started celebrating Christmas? Until then it was strictly a Catholic holiday invented by the Catholic church to "convert" Romans in the 4th century who refused to give up their pagan festival Saturnalia. Apparently the Protestants were losing parishioners to the Catholic church for all the festivities and rather than stand on principle, they compromised to keep the pews full.
Food for thought. The only commanded observance, is the Lord's table in remembrance of his death for the sins of those the Father gave him. For it was His death, not birth, that provided the single holy sacrifice to satisfy a just God.

Racism is alive and well in the United States

By absolving them of their responsibility to behave according to societal and legal norms they create chaos in the community and damn them to a life of subsistence, crime and violence.
It is the white man's fault, they say. Yet a dozen black men are murdered every weekend in Chicago and no one notices because it is at the hands of other blacks. It is the white man's fault they say yet when blacks comprise 13% of the population, they commit more than 50% of the murders in America.
Deaths of blacks at the hands of police are down 70%, but they insist on blaming authority and so called black leaders perpetuate a lie with "hands up, don't shoot"
The "system" is broken they say, yet 76% of black youth are born into single parent households without a father figure to impart discipline and lead by example.
Since 1973 when Roe v Wade was passed, so many black babies have been aborted that blacks would make up 36% of the population today instead of 13% if those children lived.
In Ferguson they say "stay away from our neighborhoods with riot gear" because its racist to think blacks can't behave unviolently. Then when the police stay away, they claim racism because white cops let their neighborhood burn by staying away.
So yes, racism is alive and well. You just have to know where to look and you have to seek out who benefits from the story of racism. Those very people claiming to help and be on the side of blacks.
The story the black community needs their leaders to share is easy. Tough to hear, but easy.
don't break the law if you don't want to go to jail
don't attack a cop if you don't want to get shot
don't have sex out of wedlock and father illegitmate children more likely to end up in prison than an instituation of higher education
Stop believing that someone owes you something. Get out and work hard. Asians and Indians come to this country with nothing and learn to be successful by working hard.

Don, I think a galvanized can would be sufficient. No real gaps.
Depending on who you read, the strength of the pulse may be over rated. A foil lined closet with a complete wrap of the walls, floors and door would also be sufficient for a place to store spare car electronics, radios, etc.

We lost 58,000 soldiers in Vietnam. Since then more than 150,000 Vietnam vets have committed suicide. And now, on average more than 20 veterans a day currently commit suicide. Most of our soldiers returning from the box are under 30 years of age.

I believe that the most important aspect of self defense is situational awareness. Not putting one's self in the position to have to defend, or use force. I'll admit that I regret turning down a scholarship to the AirForce Academy and have wondered what life had been like had a chosen the other path. (the class I would have graduated with flew in the the first Desert Storm) Later because of the Lord's grace I knew that it was His will that led me down the path I chose.
After being married and later having children I began to understand the implications of fatherhood and the awesome responsibility to provide and protect for my family. That led me to obtain my CCW permit and although I had been around weapons all my life, I had never had any formal training. It hit me that I needed real training that I never received because I had not enlisted. I sought out training from people that had "been there, done that" and begin a rigorous training regimen that had me training via private lessons 5 hours a week for many years in addition to many group classes in different parts of the country. At first I grew overly confident in my abilities and put myself in situations where I shouldn't have been. Maybe I was subconsciously wanting to be put in a situation of defending myself.
Then at one point, I realized the last thing I ever want to have to do is be put in a situation where I have to use the skills I had learned or to take another person's life. I am not afraid, rather I now understand that survival is more assured when you don't ever have to deploy a weapon or use the training you have acquired. Not to mention the lawyers are expensive.
Thus one of my favorite mottos " prepare for the worst and hope for the best" Now in addition to training for the use of force, I have begun to diligently practice and seek guidance regarding situational awareness.
My wife is an Ostrich, meaning she is willfully ignorant of all that happens around her and I'm always preaching to her about being more aware. I'd like this thread to be about techniques and experiences in "awareness" That little voice that helps you know when to change course.
I'll kick it off with a couple of examples:
Stereotypes exist for a reason. When you see someone who dresses a certain way, drives a certain car, listen to that voice in your head. Don't let the PC Liberals tell you not to think a certain way.
When you pull into a parking lot, such as a convenience store or gas station, take time to circle the lot. Look into the convenience store. Who's in there? Is there anything going on in the parking lot? Pay attention. If it's not right in your mind, pull to the side or the back and wait and watch.
When you enter a restaurant, what do you look at first? Egress points, size up patrons. Do you allow the waitress to seat you near the front with your back to the door? Where is the safest seat?
When you take your kids to school. Do you memorize or draw out a floor plan on the building so that you know exactly where your child's classroom is and how to access it in an emergency?
When you come home at night(or day) do you pay attention to the cars around you to make sure you weren't followed?
Do you keep the doors locked and your pistol at the ready when you hit the button for the garage door? Do you watch and wait while the garage door goes back down before you put the car in park, turn the ignition off, unlock the doors and re-holster your pistol?
What are the things that you do to remain vigilant?

Ghost Rocket disconnect is as close as you'll ever get to a 1911 trigger pull in a Glock.
It reduces the factory 5lb trigger to 2.5lb, the minimum "safe" according to some....
PLUS, it has a tab that the factory disconnect doesnt have that is "fitted" (meaning filed down a little at a time until you get the right reset) so that the overtravel and reset is less than 1/16 of an inch. Makes double taps and follow up shots very quick and clean. I promise if you get one installed and do it right, you will never, ever, want to shoot a factory Glock trigger again.

Great questions. I keep lots of mag springs handy. all the springs for the internals on the Glocks (very interchangable on the Gen3s of all calibers) Nothing else should ever wear out on a Glock.
I have enough 870s that I don't even keep spare parts......
AK mag springs and trigger springs.

Looking forward to starting some training! I wonder would a side saddle be a good addition? Perhaps keep a few slugs in there for when they are needed? I'll definitely get a new butt stock for the 590A1 as I find the length of pull on the factory one to be too long, will likely try the magpul. My old wingmasters are so dang smooth, but I do love that tang safety on the 590A1. What sort of rounds are good for training, and what are good for home defense? I was thinking it would make sense to train with the same rounds I would use "for real". Would reduced recoil 00 buck make sense?
I use cheap dove shot. At practice distance its going to pattern about like anything else. You don't need to beat yourself to death practicing. When the adrenaline gets going you'll never know you're shooting full powered loads.

Never heard of a "reboot" on the module, but those modules go bad all of the time. The main power relay is soldered to the board inside the module when every other relay on the truck is replaceable.
Also, A bad connection at the battery(s) can cause the same issue, or even a bad battery. If voltage drops to much while cranking (below 9.5ish), the module won't wake up properly. This or a bad relay will have the same codes usually.
Ken's the guru on this stuff. I can say however that bad ground issues have caused more problems with more vehicles than I can count, and usually are ignored in favor of pricier and more complicated diagnosis. whenever I have electrical issues nowadays, the first thing I do is clean the terminals, pull the battery, and chase the ground wire back to the chassis and get out the wire brush. after doing a much better job getting to bare metal than any manufacturer, checking the wire for corrosion under the sheathing, I coat it in anti-corrosion battery grease, and hook it all back up. I would say 75% of my problems are typically solved following this method.
You are spot on. On the outside of the frame rail just about where your driver's feet are is a set of grounds that are very commonly corroded on these trucks. Give that a shot.

Don hit it right on the head. Train with few types of weapons and get really good with them. I chose the Glock and Remington 870, and the AR platform.
I hadnt considered the injured arm aspect, but I know that in a firefight having 7 rounds might not be enough and with my pump I can move, load and shoot extremely fast. With a semi, you are out of the fight longer as you re-load.
Regarding training: With a shotgun, being able to selectively deploy the very effective slug on command is important. Once you get the basics down, being able to slide a slug in the bottom, rack the slde to eject the chambered shell (and chambering the slug) and then get a longer more accurate shot off is a good skill to have.

What type of game can you take with subsonic 22 LR? What other subsonic choices are there in other calipers? I'm thinking .45 carbine maybe?
Factory loaded ammo can be hard to find in calibers other than .22, 9mm, 45acp, at times. 300 blackout is getting more and more popular and quite effective. For bulk quantities and cost effectiveness 22 is hard to beat.
Rabbits, birds, squirrels, snakes, mice, lizards (hey, if you're hungry enough!)
..if you're close enough, deer, dogs, armadillos (had to throw that one in Tex), etc
In a pinch, I guess anything is fair game, Ken. I usally shoot the armadillos to keep them off my Lone Star (obscure Texas beer commercial reference) a well placed 22 round within 50 yards will take down most anything you want to eat. Coyote, squirrel, rabbit, dogs, cats, etc. Deer and hogs with occular shots or cranial shots.

The entire universe of polymer striker fired pistols are copies of the Glock. A great read is "Glock, The Rise of America's Gun" about the creation and controversy surrounding the Glock.
They all work the same and they all always go "bang" I can train with my 17 and pick up anyone and be competent and effective.
My trainer is a G17 and it has more than 18,000 round through it without a failure. It has always gone bang, even though it eats almost exclusively Wolf steel cased ammo.
I like them enough to have: 26/19/17/26/23/22/36/30/21/and the 20. For the barter and EOTWAWKI I have stashed half dozen 21s and many mags for standardization.
The cooolest weapon of the bunch is the 20 with the KKM barrel and custom loads. 210gn Hornady XTP at over 1325fps.....with 14 rounds in the mag.

As I sit here watching the election returns I begin to have a glimmer of hope for our country until I realize that in reality the ability to turn out more apathetic voters is the margin of victory. There is no mandate, no fire in the belly of our citizenry to take the country back. Just a bunch of people who just want to be left along to rot their brain in facebook, instagram, etc.
A win today will result only in a delay in what I believe is the inevitable. The dependent class who demands more free stuff will continue to grow and those who work hard will be faced with the physical defense of their possessions. The politicos of all ilk will give free stuff for votes until a breakdown occurs and we head into chaos and anarchy. I believe it will happen in my lifetime and I'm 40 something....

After doing a bunch of research, I settled on a system from Q-See offered at Costco for much less than I could have gotten it anywhere else. 9 IP night vision cameras and a DVR with remote viewing and motion sensing. The cameras can sense motion and send emails with still shots as well as trigger alarms.
It only takes a single cat5 cable to provide power and transmit video which makes them easy to install.

I like that it is a piston gun first, that it is a factory sorted out gun second that it comes from a US gun manufacturer that knows what they are doing, and it's just butt easy. Plunk down the cash and drive home with it, and start shooting Duane's deer targets to pieces!
In my humble opinion and experience: Piston guns are more of a fad and some gun mfgs only make them because the market demands them. Listen to what the guys at LMT said about them. Build your lower, buy an uppoer. Noveske or have one made by GA Precision. Not many people will offer an accuracy guarantee on the AR platform, but GA will. In my last competition, the San Antonio SWAT team guy was the only one who beat me on the 500yd movers and he ran a GA precision AR-10. It sounded like he was ringing a dinner bell. I had 9 hits down and back and racked up 14. He was tough to beat inside 700yds on any evolution by us guys running bolts. Out beyond 700, the semi guys can't run with the bolts, but who's really a threat outside 700? I'll take multi zombie engagement at 700 and in anyday. That whooping I took was the impetus for me to go buy my first AR-10......Love it beyond words. Get a Geissele trigger and own everything in your sector from 700 and in...
