It’s all good chief.
This here AO is more mine than hers…

Oh yeah, she’s at the lake too, so not popping home anytime soon.

Like some of our other men of this here site, I do most of the cookin.
And well, cleanin, that’s done in the sink and dishwasher.
Now for the other concerns, well, a good scrubbin is all that needed before a startin…

Yeah I dunnit.

But did you clean out the dishwasher?   I mean before you used it so you didn’t get food particles all over your engine parts…..

Actually yes.
It had been missing stuff…
So all the jets apart and cleaned.
Then ran.
Working great now as a parts washer…

I joined the pellet smoker club. Went from die hard stuck burner only to gas to electric pellet. I really don't know what happened to me. There must be a support group of some kind.

Nope. Was a strong runner.
Drove it home.
300k on it.
Last thing it did was a brake stand on the driveway.

I’m with ya Ken.
The only thing leaving my sight now is the heads.
They are going to Millar Machine Works.
They are engine builders from way back and are known fairly well.
When I was a kid I always dreamed of having one of their motors in my car.
Buddy just had good luck.

Owner suggested they may not even need a valve job yet.
Loves the LBZ and we spent a good bit of time chewing the breeze.
I have trust issues. I just done believe anyone would spend the time these days
I could literally eat dinner in my valve covers.
That is how clean it needs to be IMO to go back together.
I may be a bit overboard but dirt kills.

Wife and I went away for the weekend by ourselves. Just took the camper to one of the local campgrounds. Finally got to celebrate our anniversary that was at the beginning of the month. Basically just went out to eat one night and relaxed all weekend in silence.

Short story: about 30 years ago I had a customer that wanted me to build an engine. He had already built a test stand for it because it wasn't going in a car, but was for fun only. Since then I have asked around, trying to find one for myself.

This engine is known as the V8-60. It's a smaller version of the well known Ford flatty V8, but only boasting 60hp and 100ftlbs with 136ci. It's absolutely one of the coolest engines I've worked on, and only saw production in the states from '37-'40, although it started, and remained, in Europe from '32(?)-the'50s.
They didn't have enough power for the heavy cars of the day, but soon found their way into the boat and midget car racing scenes.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. A friend of a friend had one in a barn in Ohio and I learned that it was on the way. It was hard to contain my excitement. Very few automotive related things appeal to me now days, but this is one of them.

So it shows up yesterday. I tried to hide my disappointment after seeing it. ..it wasn't the mini version but the normal one. (Still pretty cool tho) I'll make the best of it and clean it up for a conversation piece.

I was trying to find a side by side pic of the engines for scale but the best I found is a v8-60 in a motorcycle.

Got the day off from hauling scrap iron today while the scrap yard and the processor negotiate their contract.  I just so happened to get a call the other day that my new grain trailer was built and ready to pick up. So I made use of the day to go get it.

Little over 60k but 24 with the trade in. The extra money I'm bringing in hauling scrap paid for it. This side hustle actually pays pretty well but the hours suck.

Shawn,  Not ready to take that leap yet.

My situation is different as someone with a compromised immune system.

My doc sent me today for the monoclonal antibodies which should whoop what’s left and give me some more lasting immunity.

Now here’s where it gets fun.  Had a 2 hour drive to get to the infusion location.  Left 15 minutes early because I hate to be late.

6 miles from home, they have the 2 lane farm road shut down to one lane.  Strike one.

Get through that and 4 miles down the road…

Complete and catastrophic failure.  Strike 2. Fun changing a flat on a lifted truck with the factory bottle jack, especially with COVID

So the spare was a 32 and the rest are 35s.  Grizzly Locker not liking that much.  It was locking and unlocking so violently that I thought I was going to drop a u joint.  Drove about 20 miles to the next town and had a tire shop move the spare to the front.

Then they have the exit to the main freeway closed which caused a detour. Strike 3.

Finally made it to the infusion suite 35 minutes late for my appointment.

Almost done here and will get a warranty replacement at Discount on the way back and drive through whataburger for a jalapeno whataburger with a side of onion rings.

God is great, even in our trials.

Job Chapter 2:7-10

Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.

9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!" 10 But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

So question for @eltate  do you think any damage was done to the grizzly driving it for that long with mismatched tires?

I’d bet you can’t fit a full-size spare under there either.  Mine always was to large for my 4” exhaust or the tire hit the differential also.  Bed mount in the future?

if it starts bucking in a straight line, you broke the clutch hold out ring. otherwise it's pretty tough. you can remove it making the action much more aggressive, like serious off road action, or I can send you a new set, either way. if it drove normal after you put the same size tire on it, you're probably fine.

For the record I was in favor of Shawn carrying a spare.

Tate it did buck in a straight line a couple times. Other than putting it in the grass and seeing if it spins in both how would I test it?  And what all is involved if I have to replace that part?

pull from the housing, split the case in half, swap the broken small rings out which are outboard and easy to get to with unbroken ones and install is reverse of removal. pretty straight forward

wet grass is honestly a good test, w/ two buddies so no one has to stand behind it.

Well pulled over on the side of the road and lit it up in the hard packed dry grass and promptly left two deep even ruts.

I can also feel it locking unlocking at low speed like it did before so maybe I dodged the bullet??

I'll answer that: Not at all. Nearly unbreakable
So, you know me, right?
Rep for being hard on things
Break a lot of stuff
Ya know, the big Armee guy??
So mine has been in since 2012 and works perfectly, now over 120,000 miles on it
Now it will kill tires, no matter if they are mis-matched, perfectly matched, US, Chinese, or of extraterrestrial origin

Ya Tate that cummins, long springs and a stick shift make shockloads at times a reality. Still not really sure how i broke it, but boy under deceleration I sure knew when it was broke. Might have been when I horsed it around the autocross course on a dare. Either way it was a simple fix.... my evaporating power steering fluid is far more frustrating.....ugh

Looking for some new shocks for the suburban. After pulling the scout trailer to camp I definitely need them. They are still pretty stiff but under a load its pretty bouncy.
I need something better than stock but I dont really want to mess with air shocks. Looking at the Rancho RS 9000 XL or Bilstein B6 4600 Monotube Gas OEM
Any suggestions? Its a 2008 LT so no air ride.

Everything I’ve seen says Rancho is crap. Go with the Bilstein.

Bilstein. If you can find them.  They’ve been hard to come by

This would be a bit more spendy, but the 2.0 FOX I am using on my Suburban have made it (no kidding) one of the best riding vehicles I have ever owned...and adjustable!

I hear good things about the Rancho adjustable shocks, but no first hand exp.

My take for Bilstein vs Fox. Bilsteins are better for a mostly on road truck (like most of us), Fox handle the harder driving/trails better. The fox shocks don't last as long, cost more and are rebuildable. Bilsteins seem to last longer (over 200k on my 5100s) but I believe their new remote reservoir shocks are and I am getting notices they are getting back in stock from my searches on them.
