Changed out the fuse and its works as it should. Thanks for all the help on this. I NEVER would have even looked at #68 had it not been for the responses to this thread.
My sierra and its brakes thank everyone.

If the controller doesn't have power trace it out. Black wire has battery power always. White wire is ground. Red wire has power when stepping on brakes only.
If you used a gm harness that plugs in under the dash, it will get power from a large fuse.. like 40a. I think it's called "stud #2" or auxiliary iirc
would this fuse be under the hood or dash?
Under hood

Ken - so i just reseated the fuse and my TBC controller has power now. It shows connected to trailer, etc... but now its always got power. Its been months since it worked last so i forgot if this was the case? IIRC, it would power on with ignition...

should i change out the fuse anyway to be on the safe side?

EDIT. it was powered off after a while.

Welcome back Stewie, now I'll probably have to ban ya for a short time for being AWOL.

Just grin and bear it...

I need ken in here with the quickness! ive been pulling my hair with this issue.

Fam is ok.

Hi all - it's been a long while since ive been here, but i figured this may be a good place to ask...

I installed a Reese Towpower in my 2012 sierra 1500 back in 2018. worked perfect. Fast forward to this year... the 7 prong Pollack plug in my trailer came lose while towing and i could not figure out why nothing was working when i wired it back up. i finally got everything but the trailer brake functioning. i had to go to the trailer dealer i purchased mine from and ask to see how the MFG wired the plug up. Ok, cool i got it. went home and changed up my wiring.

Now my trailer brake controller under my dash has NO power. I checked all trailer related fuses under the hood, reset the harness, checked the wires and prayed. I cannot figure out why I have no juice going to the TBC. I wonder if me having a misaligned or wrongly connected wire initially caused an issue somewhere?

Any insights will be helpful.

its been a while...

We went out to Ukraine mid October. Long haul over there. Our daughter (yep) is in the far west on the Slovakian border. 13 hour train ride. 2+ weeks there, went back after Thanksgiving. She's our daughter now. She comes home mid January (thanks to all the holidays).

2nd trip was faster and pretty hectic. 17 hours of car and plane, then another 13 of train all back to back. Right after the train we were thrust into court per the judge. I basically made the 2nd or 3rd largest decision of my life with NO sleep for 48 hours, no coffee, no food in me and wearing the same clothes we left texas in 2 days prior. I had to admire God's sense of humor in all of this.

Thanks all for your prayer and support. This journey is NOT over yet, but we're close.

cleaned the MAS last evening. pretty easy.
after more research, i think the throttle body needs to be cleaned. I read about K&N filters being overoiled which can cause some gunking. the truck has 130K plus on it so it's probably in order anyway.
The job seem pretty easy

thanks guys.

the K&N has been in the truck for about 2 months or so. i will however check that again, too.

Hmmm, I’m wondering if crap build up is more prevalent with 22LR (low velocity etc). Caliber diameter obviously isn’t the issue.

i'd think that, too. 22lr is dirty ammo.

i would not run 22lr out of any can that is not a 22lr can.

Explain please.

both of my AAC cans clearly state not to run 22lr out of them despite one being a 556 can. In my not so expert understanding of ballistics, i'd venture to guess that damage can occur.

but that's just me.

Had my sierra tuned up a few weeks ago after a check engine light due to misfires. New plugs, wires and a FI cleaning.
The idle after was eerily quiet. the truck was silent at idle - awesome.
But after a tank of gas the variable and sometimes rough idle came back. It normally idles around 525 or so, but dips to 500 and yesterday was idling around 600/650 for a while.
I read I need to clean the throttle body as this may be the issue, but i'd like to know if there is anything else to look at.

K&N filter (new)
No check engine light

Hey All -

Just an update. It's been a long road but our dossier is FINALLY going to be headed off to Ukraine end of the month.
If all goes to plan, we should be out there sometime in October and Lord willing be bringing our adopted daughter home before Thanksgiving.

Since may it's been a rough road. We've been his so hard financially which caused us to have to divert funds. We're now only finally getting back on track.
Please keep us in prayer and if you can help our via our patch fundraiser or gofundme, be led by the Lord.

i've put over 5000 miles on her already. recently did the oil as well. purchased at 124,900, odometer is approaching 130,000 already.

- no real complaints with the exception of a low whine from the steering pump after driving for a while.
- average mpg is about 16.5
- needs new tires in a few months. the cooper at3's are reaching the end of their life.
- installed a trailer brake controller which gets used a lot
- heaviest load towing thus far was 2 cubic yards of sand (6,000lb) + trailer.
- lacks the growl my wife's 6.0 has which get's me all hot and bothered.

overall very happy trading in a paid off vehicle for this one + a small note. it fits the utility bill for me perfectly, super comfortable to drive and rather quiet on the road.

update...

our home study is signed and approved. our paperwork is off to immigration who approves adoptions on the US side, then once that's back and done, our ukraine-side paperwork goes over.

all goes well, we're looking to head over there early fall.

thanks for the support and prayers!

Up until recently they were not integrated into the trucks but they did have the wire harness all set up and ready to plug and play.  In the newer GM trucks many have the integrated controllers.  From what I have read in the 2014+ GM trucks if the integrated controller is not installed and you want to install one you will need to chase wires down.  There is no plug and play for those trucks.  That is just what I had read in my research.   No first hand knowledge or really even dug into it that much.

As for why it is not included.  There are a great many trucks being driven around and used only as grocery getters.  I would be willing to bet a good many more then half the trucks sold in the last 10 years were never hooked to a trailer requiring electric brakes.

i agree on that grocery point. My 2500 series suburban has the controller integrated but then again, its not really a grocery hauler so much as a bad ass gas guzzling monster.

25
the wiring was all there, it was even tied into the battery for goodness sakes. why wouldnt they include one is beyond me.

26
Yeah, this grinds my gears. I had to install a trailer brake controller over the week because the geniuses @ GM didn't see fit to include the OEM controller as part of the package.

WHY!?

What's the point of a heavy tow package if you cannot delegate power to the trailer brakes?

Anyway. Install went ok. Got a Reese in there now and tested it out. Gtg

so just an update... we're off for our "approval" with immigration (oh the irony) which is the govt agency in charge of adoption approval.

our homestudy is done - it was a REAL eye opener (another story for another time).

all goes well, we're headed out there in the early fall.

anti-social? more like... don't tailgate me!

don't you live around the Austin area where this fool lives?

ha! nope. I'm a ways out but do venture into there once in a while.

my wife's suburban sits a bit higher then the 1/2 ton variants so we have an 8" drop hanging out there like a fishing hook.

this sort of stuff should teach people not to tailgate, especially against immovable objects.

33
my first car was a 1991 dodge monaco (google it). It was the biggest pile of crap ever produced, IMO. @ 140K, it was done. donated it. not worth it.

my 2001 XJ had 90K on it when i traded it in back in 2006.

The two above mentioned vehicles were North East cars and subject to salt and lots of harsh driving. the XJ was in almost constant need of some sort of repair, BUT that engine itself never had to be touched.

my wife's 09 suburban has 144K on it and aside from every stupid electronic thing going wacko occasionally and the usually maintenance + the stuff that tends to breaks after so many years... the thing has been quite reliable and durable.

my 2012 sierra has 126K on it and although I've owned it only a month, it looks and drives like it's brand new.

34
turns out they put a faulty clamp on when they replaced the evac can last year. it didn't keep pressure or something.

they of course fixed it no charge.

35
oddly enough the parking assist wont turn back on after i disconnected the trailer. it may still think one is attached. This leads me to believe the adapter in the rear is shot.

36
A test light would sure help.

37
I would say a bad ground on that bulb, but not if it works fine on the burb. Try wiggling the plug?

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

did all that. i got a new light unit. ill tinker with it during the week so i have no plans to move that trailer for at least 2 weeks. i will also check the connections on the truck.

38
just checked all the fuses.

i took the left light assembly off and inspected it. it gives a faint pulsing when i turn the hazards/turn signal on, but only for a few seconds. when i unloack truck it lights up, but when i lock (pulsating) it doesn't.

is s a bad light assembly?

39
its dark out now so i went out and was able to troubleshoot better. all the lights go on but the left light wont flash when i put on the turn signal. it will also not brighten when i apply the brake.

40
I did a bunch of searching on the issue and some are saying a short others a fuse, but i cannot find in the fuse box where left/right brake & signal lights are. i just see lights and brakes.

Am I looking in the wrong spot? i dont think it's the trailer because my suburban was recently towing it and all the lights worked.

skunk update. found the bastard. dead. right under out bedroom. I need to crawl under the and remove the remains.

44
**DONE**

So i took delivery of the truck yesterday. They installed running board for me n/c, replaced a handful of hoses, O-ring and pressure sensor.
Yesterday's joy ride was nice, smooth and quiet. the truck drives like a charm. Oil pressure holds steady about 35 psi when driving.

Thanks for all who guided me on this.

I've been thinkin' about this whole skunk with diabeetes thing.

The man who came up with something like that is troubled for sure.

A diabetic skunk...

Way too much thinkin about this, way too deep. :blank:

Can a guy who analyzes his pests and critters be all that well adjusted?  :undecided:

or is he a bit a__l? Just sayin...

A bit too much thought here folks.  :knucklehead:

What next, a crow that shows up in the morning with a lisp?

don't judge me unless you have a dog with a criminal record.
until you've had to flip kennels and do pat down....

one of my sheep files his hooves down to be like shanks.

the struggle is real.

This is starting to get a bit scary

But having said that, I did have to live with the dreaded, "Red Dog."

That experience alone is what gave me my PTSD-D (Post traumatic stress disorder - dog)

you had a dog that was a communist?

If the smell keeps coming and going he isn't dead.  Not sure about your area but up north here it is breeding season for them.
I wouldn't put a kill trap their.  That is unless you want it to stink like skunk for a couple weeks.  Catch them in a live trap, cover if up before you move it and you won't get sprayed.  Remove from the area to dispatch it.  A clean shot to the head should prevent them from spraying.  Or you can always toss the entire trap in a pond or something for a bit.

i have a no kill trap setup where i think it goes in/out of and so far, nothing.

the pond idea is good, but if word broke i would have domestic pr issues.

Nothing has lured this skunk out from the depths of despair, aka - under our house. We noticed our smelly resident about a month ago. I've tried baiting it with anything i can think of including banana, peanut butter, marshmallows, cat food. Nothing. Nada.

I popped my head under the house yesterday evening with my 600 lumen torch, i don't see anything.

I think he has the diabeetus and is avoiding the sugary snack.

Or.

He's dead.

The smell can be super potent or nothing at all from day to day. I've not seen any serious disturbance around the house and the cats and dog aren't going ape like they used to.

Any ideas?
