From my understanding, he was a follower/believer of the torah.

You know his signature hand sign he made world famous?

Know where it came from?

An ancient Jewish tribe when enslaved by Rome was not allowed to mention their (and our) God. So they created a symbol using their hand. The sign they made?? You guessed it, same as "Live long and Prosper!"
