HARV KOSO:
Make sure you leave the blade “edge” thickness a little beefy to prevent the knife from warping in the quench oil. Basically get the edge clean and center and then dull it on the belt to the thickness of a pencil line before the quench

That's basically what I did.  Actually took too much off, then dulled it like you said.
