Boys off at Scout camp this week but got a couple days at the Ridge with the youngest.

First thing was picking up some #10 cattle fencing that I plan to use to on the face of the pad. Just letting the fill fall as it may just didn't seem right.
This stuff has a 6in square pattern, #6 galvanized wire. Will cut off one side and hook onto the next panel. Then plan on using T post along the top to firm it up. Idea is to get the shape I want, then put about about 6"-12" on the face. Neighbor has a gas T post driver to make things easier. Sure it may rot away in 10 years or so but the pad face should be firm.

Really didn't get as much dirt moved as we would have liked. Then it started raining Thursday evening, so my son says lets got to town to eat. Rained the rest of the evening so it was a good idea.

Next morning he dragged me out for a hike wanting to see where the property line was. He wanted to see if some rock formations were on our property.

This is the view west. Just over those hills is where the Reno Air Races are held.

After I recovered from that, we finally put the gate up on the road I cleaned up a couple weeks back. It actually slopes down a hair and it not locked, but should help with the people who can't read the private property signs. I placed it where you can't see the pad at all.

Left the trailer there for now, may get this week. Need to find some noise in my truck.

Only about 40ft of dirt to go, loser pile too. Orange shows both peaks.

That SVL-05/97 would eat that up, but with the sheer amount of dirt you move, you really need a 953!

I can do that in a day, just get caught up in so many other things. (hikes, gates, drone flights, neighbors)

Bucket is about 1/2 yard if I get a good load.

Hopefully about 2 weeks and the permit has the septic included.

If the time line holds I should be digging footings in a month, about the same time as the building shows up hopefully.

The idea is I will do the footings, run plumbing and have the slab poured by some locals.

Spent a few days at the Ridge about killed me. Low 100s the whole time. I could work for 2hrs, then hydrate and start again! Never used to be this bad but I guess age and heat showed me whos boss!

There were fires north in Plumas, about 50 miles N/E. Keep getting alerts but only saw smoke. You can see the smoke coming up above the clouds, then the whole valley looked like this Sat.

Another fire broke out by Truckee/Tahoe I saw on the way home. I stopped by Boomtown and they comped me a room (suite) and cablelas is right next door!

In the AM they were using both Sky-Kings and Vertols fighting the fires. Never knew the SK could drop twice, the Vertols were using baskets.

Got drone pics of the prop work, have to DL still. This is how close it lands to takeoff point in some pretty good winds.

Yep, two 46s using buckets (1 yellow and 1 white/red), 1 SK with the fire pod. Truckee river was just north, easy filling.

Plans have been resubmitted, now waiting on the county. Said maybe 2 weeks, thats promising.

Another issue has come up with the building though. I was just told it may be early Dec until my building is ready. I was told late July to Aug when I agreed to order it waiting on pemits. Little exchange going as if I pour my foundation the trucks can't turn around on the pad. Plus that could be rain or snow time and getting the truck up the hill will be tuff.

They know I am not happy, covid delay or not. I am under contract with lots of $$$ paid and they should have planned for my kit.

We will see, but I am off to Hawaii next week and feel like I'm traveling to the USSR. They want to know everything, covid testing and more. Didn't know the Constitution was void over there and they want travelers, its their life blood.

Did a little time lapse on the pad work. I did 90% of the work prior to having a guy come in and cut the big stuff out.

Maybe a repeat pic, but I added a line to most showing a reff to a table I have sitting there. I can move the rest in a day (pending this 110* stuff)

This is where I am now. Wire to be laid covered with the last pile.

South is on the right. The pad has been pushed to about 150' deep now. Still 100' wide.

Here is the last pile. This will be used for the wire covering.

Rocks will be placed around the gate, keeping all but the brave at bay.

Mavic Air2 is doing its thing before I leave. It was blowing around 20mph and it handled it fine, pad like to blow away though (rock)

This last stay was a challenge. It felt like the water and my energy was being sucked from me. Just had to pace myself.

With the logistics all messed up for now I need to get my TH up there. Having regular amenities will be a life saver.

Looking at well pumps now, trying to stay with 110v for simplicity. Do not need pressure as I'm filling a 2600gl tank. I have plenty of solar panels and just 4-6 will do the job easily, then a gen can be used at night if even needed.

I may even use a booster pump to fill the tank and it can double for more pressure bellow.

Wire is more than pumps now. Big thing is I need a pump with SS impeller with the stuff up there. Otherwise I hear they only last a couple years.

JR,
What happened to the solar well pump idea?      Not giving you a hard time, but i wanted to see what you were going to use as i might be needing something like that.   Thoughts or ideas?

Still thinking that route. Thats why I'm thinking 110 over 220. Small inverters are easy, even with solar.

This permit issue is driving me nuts though. My stuff just got sent back again for the septic system which I thought was addressed. I addressed it but the arch did not include the info on the plans.

Spent a couple days at the ridge but did little this trip. Just not feeling well but working on that.

Put up a sign, leveled the front of the pad to add the grating, checked the well depth and got a real mailing address.

Well is interesting, seems to hit about 275' but it keeps pulling line until almost 600' is out. Bottle comes up with a little muddy water, cord is tangled and wet. Pretty sure is has opened up down there.

Was just nasty up there this weekend. 100* going over the grade at night, 108 at the prop (index was 116)

Picked up a used ice maker and power washer, ice maker was great and it got used!

18in bolt cutters are a no go on the fence, time for 24s or cutoff wheel.

Cleaned the road up, was looking bad after some rain. Drain pipe got some work.

Drug the trailer/box blade home. Going to add wheels to make a leveler/drag for the road/pad.

Got a coyote coming through during the night, several picks now bat always walking away?

Ive put about 200 hours on my L47, no issues. Lots of lube, 2 oil changes. They are solid machines.

My Gehl is nice too, even with my boy hot rodding it. But has a small hyd leak. Leaves a little stain when parked, need to pull the pan to see where.

Nice if both had cabs. Would love a little Excavator, but even used they are going for 20k.

Once this last pile is gone and the pad is leveled, I have the foundation to cut. Prob another 75-100 hours but that is what its for.

Told the expected life is 10k on these, so just 25% there.

JR, I have 9 hours on mine. Still trying to learn how to use the loader then tackle the hoe. I will practice on a few smaller stumps. Then need a two foot deep trench for power to the shop.

I need to flip the blade on the bucket, getting rounded off. Have to weld the flush bolts to it as they spin when I try to loosen.

The backhoe has a good learning curve. Mine is super sensitive. The creep feature is nice.

Did you get the quick coupler?

Yes, the hoe has the quick coupler and hyd thumb. Uses the same buckets as the smaller excavators. I am going to pick up a 12 inch bucket without teeth. Be good for trenching , and need lots of trenching.

DL the pics from the drone, sure like this thing! Neighbor got the same for 2K with screen on trans and 2 more batteries. (Mavic Air 2)

Having words with the Arch now, just got another bill for 1K and I have nothing yet and permits have been applied for twice.

Here is first pic and last week pic of the pad since all the dirt was piled up. Just thought it would be cool to see a pic of both together.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Anything with a hoe on it is handy, and that Kubota machine is solid!
I am closing in on 100 on my new SVL-97. The thing is just so handy, you find a use for it in everything you do. I'm looking for the washer and dryer attachment right now!

And

Copy that on yellow iron prices. All of it is crazy. I could easily get $10K more than I paid for mine right now, but have zero plans of getting rid of that handy thing. I think I'll always need one as long as I own land.

Guy was getting $200 and hour, came out a little under 4K. It was not so much what he piled, its where he got it from. Most of that was the 2-1 slope off the rear walls and much of that was granite.

Little kub was just not up to the task and I could not reach 1/2 of it. Now moving it is fine, just time and a little fuel. Rarely do I use 10gal a day.
