Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

True. When I was younger I would have "1". It was a 60/40 crown and 7 in a 32 ounce mason jar with a handle. I'd be wrecked.

That's pretty slick.  At my big5, just the Mossberg security style is 350.....I looked at it but ended up with the savage for 2 bills.

Came across this today, what do you all think?

http://www.big5sportinggoods.com/store/details/Mossberg+500-12-Gauge-Pump-Action-Shotgun-Combo/0310105330003/_/A-742353?#.V5-ZLXXn-BY

If you're looking for a good deal on a shotgun, look for a Mossberg 500 Flex. It's set up for turkey hunting (usually) in the stores; HOWEVER, you get a pistol grip and a free HD barrel with the purchase. Added bonus it's already OD green, so you don't need to paint it. It's roughly the same price as the one you posted.

http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Mossberg-500-Flex-Turkey/Security-Shotgun-Combo&i=936619&r=view

EDIT: It's a little more than what you posted, however I think you could probably get it cheaper in other places or from your buddy who owns the gunstore.

personally I'm a Remy 870 guy.  Mainly for standardizing weapons systems and that's whay I started with.

I've heard good things about the Moss' as well.  Try gunbroker.  Lots of good deals there and I've bought a few things from there

I've always been an 870 guy too but for what they want for these I have been contemplating getting a couple if nothing more than dbilg (dumb brother in law gun)..... Plus I'm hearing the Remington quality is dropping & my last 700 isn't anything to write home about....

I can and have used 500s and 870s. I can work them both. Both are good choices and affordable.

I think I got lucky last Christmas.

I run all Mossy platforms except for one Winchester which has probably killed a thousand squirrels!
Anyhow, I picked up a nice Remington 870 for the little Ranger and it was a very nice gun.

For you Nate, you didn't say, were you buying this shotgun for hunting? Or home defense?

Take Bobby's advice or at least take a look at that combo. One gun shoots quail or undocumented home invaders!

You have definitely got some Canadian(s) out your way, (feathered, not distilled, but some of that too;-) but for the gun, foregrip and pistol grip you'd be $296 with the 870 clone. You want to bird hunt, I've got a "recently saved from auction" over/under you can borrow  ;D

Well I misdirected, must be me hanging around that H supporter Ken rubbing off on me.... ::)

Anyhow ended up with another 870, this one is called the "tactical" model but it's the lesser expensive non magpul furniture version. Does have extended mag & breacher affixed to the end of it along with rail & ghost ring.

I also picked up a sling for it & the receiver side attach shell holder.

I ended up with a Mossy 500 tactical tri rail when I was shopping for an 870.
It was all loaded up to some extent, and around 400 bucks.
The plain 870 was about 650 IIRC, and needed the magpul stuff, rails etc.

Having run both, it came down to $$$.
With no previous standard set for tactical 12 ga, I went with the 500, and now I guess it is set.

so the gun was originally $500 when I ordered it, and I used the refund from that along with a $60 gift card that I had and only had to fork over $50 some dollars for the $229 case.

I am having to keep things a bit mobile right now, so that is why I have the 2 cases and not a safe yet.

I have a sling that holds 25 or 30

And a bandolier that holds 50

The latter is in the back of my truck. Just have to grab the gun and the sling and I can stay in it for awhile.

I had a sling that held a bunch, but the sling for sling purposes sucked. Thus I went to those saddles & am looking into a belt goose hunters use. It's padded & pretty wide so it holds quite a few, won't restrict movement etc & will keep you going.
