I started my boys on the little John Deere...only cost me some shrubs I wanted to replace anyway. Next the big J-Deere, and now while down at the farm, time to do what HC is doing.

We should start a thread:

« on: January 18, 2016, 02:29:22 PM »
For 300 meters, the .308 is more than adequate. It is an effective cartridge for use out to 800 meters, possibly 900.
I assume you are talking about shooting deer sized game or paper punching or in the context of this site, a self defense caliber.
If I had shots that were typically in the far side of the .308 range, then the .300 WM is a very good cartridge. That caliber was used as a sniper gun very effectively out past 1000 yards. I own one and it has been a great shooter since the early 80's when I made it mine.
The .270 and 7mm Rem Mag are great long shooters as well. These days the 6.5 cartridges like the Grendel are way long shooters because of excellent bullet coefficient of size vs weight and power.
The standard nato 7.62 X 51 or .308 is probably about the perfect cartridge there is. Available everywhere. Powerful, Kills anything, inexpensive vs a .300 and is proven in everything from combat to long range competitive shooting to your annual deer hunt.
The other .30 cartridges are so-so in my view. The new .300 and the 7.62 X 39 rusky rounds. They have good performance in close but run out of spunk pdq.

Again we return to the .308 which is probably the standard by which other cartridges are compared.

I saw the movie last night

I'm very unsettled at the moment

The scene with the JSOC boys, in the Chinook...That would have been my boys and my old job. Looking at it, I'm thinking they were 3-5 hours away tops. With aerial refueling could have done the whole thing and provided 6+ mini guns overhead. That alone could have won the day. And could have put a pair of F-16's overhead in maybe 45 minutes from the call, then successive sorties throughout the night...

Reprehensible...the actions of Obama and Clinton!

Ephesians 5:6-14

Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead,
and the Messiah will shine on you

Light versus Darkness

6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things  7 Therefore, do not become their partners.  8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light—  9 for the fruit of the light[c] results in all goodness, righteousness, and truth—  10 discerning what is pleasing to the Lord.  11 Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.  12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret.  13 Everything exposed by the light is made clear,  14 for what makes everything clear is light. Therefore it is said:

Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead,
and the Messiah will shine on you

You could add say, cherry flavor to one type, then peach to another

Intel / Warning by Milita to Civil authorities
« on: January 16, 2016, 09:57:27 AM »
I copied this here for general information. The published warning obviously telegraphs intent by the Militia to intervene to keep things on the up and up. Not a bad idea really to provide a buffer so that something crazy doesn't happen.

When this sort of thing happened in Waco Texas, the American people were not in the state of mind that they are now. The militia and potential army of patriots was not really on the radar. Now days they certainly are. Militia stopped an illegal government intervention on the Bundy ranch in Nevada, so obviously they have grown in strength. Now they are positioned around the Oregon site now occupied by other militia folks.

Essentially a ring of gun powder now encircles a case of TNT and an agitated group of matches just showed up wanting to shoot something. Stage is set here folks. I thing prudence dictates we keep an eye on how this is rolling out:

https://www.oathkeepers.org/critical-warning-to-u-s-military-and-federal-leo-do-not-follow-orders-to-waco-ammon-bundy-occupation-in-oregon-or-you-risk-starting-a-civil-war/

De Oppresso Liber?  We Shall See

This is addressed first and foremost to the entire U.S. military, but especially to the military Special Operations Command and community.    Secondly, it is addressed to federal LEOs, and especially to their SRTs, such as the FBI HRT (many of whom are former military special operations).  This comes from combat arms and special operations veterans, along with veteran Sheriffs and police officers, within the Oath Keepers organization:

Critical Warning:

The Ammon Bundy led occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon must be handled as a normal, non-crisis, law enforcement matter, and preferably by Oregon Sheriffs (who are organized as the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association), and their deputies, together with the local community there in Harney County, OR.   The locals can resolve this, if given enough time.   The Oregon Sheriffs can resolve this, if given enough time.

This situation must not be handled in a military or paramilitary fashion, using military assets, military rules of engagement, or otherwise attempting to end it suddenly by use of dynamic assault, resulting in catastrophic loss of life, as has occurred twice in recent American history, with horrific results (at Ruby Ridge in 1992, and at Waco Texas in 1993).  If you do it "Waco" style here, you risk pushing this nation over the edge into a civil war, because there are "no more free Wacos."

This is not an emergency situation, unless you turn it into one.  Ammon Bundy's occupation of an empty building is essentially the same as civil-disobedience sit-ins that the political left has engaged in for decades, from anti-war and civil rights protesters in the 60s and 70s (including a nineteen month occupation of Alcatraz by American Indian activists), to Occupy Wall Street Movement and Black Lives Matter activists today.

These ranchers, cowboys, and veterans just happen to be armed, as westerners tend to be.   Get over it.  There are no hostages, there are no close-by neighbors at risk, there is nobody there except those who want to be.

So tread lightly, and at most handle this like the Montana Freeman standoff, where the FBI was patient and waited them out, with a peaceful surrender coming after eighty one days.   In this situation, the locals will likely have this resolved long before that length of time.  Regardless, there is no rush.

Despite that reality of there being no emergency here, we have very good reason to believe that ideologue leftist bureaucrats within the Obama Administration - such as within the D.O.J., and their politically minded "perfumed prince" puppets within the D.O.D. - are pressuring you to prepare to use military assets and military rules of engagement to conduct a dynamic raid.   We are an organization of current serving and retired military, police, fire-fighters and other first responders, and we have contacts at every major military installation in America (including Joint Base Lewis-McChord), and at the Pentagon.   We hear things.  We'll just leave it at that.

And we know that the Obama Administration considered the use of military force during the Bundy Ranch standoff in April, 2014, pursuant to Directive No. 3025.18, "Defense Support of Civil Authorities."  Fortunately for all Americans, they decided not to do it.  This fact was confirmed by a May 28, 2014 Washington Times article:

A U.S. official said the Obama administration considered but rejected deploying military force under the directive during the recent standoff with Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his armed supporters.

From Inside the Ring: Memo Outlines Obama's Plan to Use the Military Against Citizens.

So, the military force hammer was, in fact, on the table during Bundy Ranch, as we suspected.  Please don't try to tell us it's not on the table again, now.   We know it is.  The only question is whether the Obama Admin leftist weenies will be foolish enough to try to actually use it, and if they do, whether you will be foolish enough to obey their idiotic orders and obediently act as that hammer.

In addition, it is clear you federal LEOs have not handled this in the normal law enforcement manner of cordoning off the area and immediately initiating negotiations.  Why is that?  Why has there yet to be even an attempt to open direct lines of communications between you and Ammon Bundy, as members of Pacific Patriot Network, Idaho III%, and Oath Keepers on the ground in Burns, OR have been repeatedly urging you to do for the past week, to no avail?

Don't do it.  Do not follow unlawful orders if the Obama Administration fools decide to go "full retard."  No matter how eager the politicians like Harry Reid are for Ammon Bundy's head, after the black eye Ammon and his family gave them at Bundy Ranch in 2014, and no matter how much they pressure you to "make an example" out of these guys, you cannot drop the hammer on a bunch of ranchers, cowboys, and veterans sitting in an empty building without it blowing up in all of our faces.  Treat this with kid gloves, like the Montana Freeman standoff, instead of like the Waco standoff, or risk setting off a civil war.

The stuffed-shirt, pencil necked metrosexuals inside the D.C. beltway will not be the ones bleeding and dying in the chaos that could follow (at least not at first).

God created the institution of marriage
Therefore he has the power to heal it to repair all that ailes it and to work in husbands and wives minds. He can bring about needed change
Ask him to show each of you where that change is needed and ask him to remove the barriers that currently are disrupting harmony between you two
Then believe it in your heart and with faith that he will fix it
Give it to him
Do that and the marriage will survive and thrive

They were filled before the glue was dry, i can say that with certainty. But i knew they would be... The shelves were really built to accomodate the size of all that stuff, which was stacked up waiting for a home. 24" tall for the bottom shelf (for coolers mainly), and then 18" thereafter for all those rubbermaid bins.

She can't wait till the shop is built and all of my stuff is out of the garage so she can rat-hole more Christmas/thanksgiving/Easter/etc decorations.

Pro Motive is a consortium of brand name companies over a host of varied areas of interest. Benchmark and SOG knives to Kelty camping gear, to cycling parts, to Vortex scopes and hundreds more.

You must be vetted by the organization and assigned to a "Team" to be able to even see the vendors and deals. I filled out the application and was placed in two teams, US Army, and Special Operations Forces. There are teams for fire and rescue, some sports activities, and others.

The concept is that ProMotive gathers the so called "Experts" from each field of interest and use them and their opinions for product information, marketing and the like. They know 1. We know people, 2. We are influential, and 3. We and our friends can actually afford to buy things.

For their part they offer what I see is approximately 50% off MSRP on the products listed. I was looking at SOG axes just now for $40-$50 ea. Retail was $90-$100

From the Oath Keepers:

Five Intelligence Essentials for Community Security

by Sam Culper, Forward Observer Magazine

We as veterans are blessed.  Not only can we say that we answered the call and served in our nation's military (many of us at time of war), but we also received some of the best training the world has to offer.  I enlisted as an aimless 20 year old, and military service instilled in me discipline and taught me a skill, as well as the purpose, direction and motivation for providing value to society outside of the Army, too.  Hundreds of thousands of Americans have similar stories.

As veterans, we may very well be called on again to lead our communities during turbulent times.  There are few areas outside the military that require its teams to complete tasks and accomplish the mission during stressful and often dangerous situations.  And there are few greater examples of leadership right now than preparing your community today for tomorrow's emergency.

Although we encourage veterans to get involved, civilians play a critical role in community security as well.  Here are five areas where veterans, patriots, and preparedness-oriented Americans should work together to build an intelligence capacity for community security.

If you're not very familiar with intelligence, then it's your job as a leader to become familiar and get someone on your team trained up to fill the role of S2.  We're not talking about being James Bond or leading top secret missions; instead focus on conducting threat analysis and developing early warning intelligence.  It's the S2's job to immediately begin contributing to these areas for a future SHTF event.

Here are five ways that you can better prepare for community security through intelligence.

1)

Maps - You simply must have maps of your area of operations (AO).  In order to understand the mission of community security, you'll need to identify just what your AO is - in other words, the boundaries of what you're going to protect.  Identifying the AO is the first step in a line of several steps that we'll cover later in the article.

Step into any tactical operations center, or TOC, in Iraq or Afghanistan and you're likely to see several types of maps of the AO.  The first map we'll need is a topographical map at 1:24,000 scale available from the USGS.  Printing off a map at your home or office printer is better than nothing, however, what's best is having a large map hung up on the wall.  You're going to need at least a twenty-four inch by thirty-six inch map if you want to be the best prepared.  You'll also be interested in having plenty of street maps and imagery of the AO, too.

2)

Police Scanner - Scanning local emergency services frequencies is the absolute best way to get up-to-the-second intelligence information during an emergency.  Unless you live in an area where this traffic is encrypted, you'll have access to some of the same information that law enforcement does.  And when it comes to making informed, time-sensitive decisions, a police scanner will be your best friend.  They're expensive, however, I highly recommend the Uniden Home Patrol 2.  It's my police scanner of choice for several reasons, one of which is because, unlike other scanners, its screen shows me what agency is transmitting.  That goes a long way in my ability to determine the area of transmission.

3)

Intelligence Preparation of the Community - I modified the Army's Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield for civilian use in my book SHTF Intelligence, and designed Intelligence Preparation of the Community (IPC).  Once we have our maps and map overlays set up, we need to identify and mark on our maps any critical infrastructure in the area, along with what's called the human terrain.  Critical infrastructure includes police and fire stations, government buildings, power plants, and fuel depots (among many others), and the human terrain includes community leaders and demographics (among many others).  We need to pay attention to the people, places, and things that keep life-as-we-know-it up and running, and we need to not only know exactly where they are in relation to our AO, but also how they'll affect our AO.  Doing the legwork now in order to understand the community is a top priority for the S2, and this step never ends.

4)

Threat Analysis - We need to begin identifying threats in our AO, which includes threats from outside the area that have the potential to migrate into the AO.  Threats are broken down into four categories:  conventional, irregular, catastrophic, and disruptive.  Once identified, we begin developing intelligence requirements so we can learn more about each threat and provide better analysis.  If you don't know the threat, then you can't defend against it, and if you can't defend against it, then it's going to eat your lunch.  In other words, understand each threat as he understands himself.  In the Military Intelligence Creed, that would be "find, know, and never lose the enemy."

5)

Early Warning Intelligence - Once we've identified and analyzed current and potential threats, it's imperative for us to find ways to provide early warning for them.  For current threats, our greatest early warning, in general, will be the effects of the SHTF event, which are likely to cause criminal behavior.  But beyond that, how can we develop tactical early warning intelligence?  Having 'eyes on' our community's avenues of approach is one of the best ways.  Through our threat analysis, we should know from what direction these threats will migrate and, therefore, we need to identify these threats as they're migrating as quickly as possible.  For potential threats - that is, threats that have yet to arise - we need to begin looking for 'indicators' of their activity.  We might begin looking for tagging on signs and walls, gang-related clothing and hand signs among the populace, noticeable surveillance of potential targets - anything you'd expect to happen before an attack occurs.  If we can identify these indicators soon enough, then we'll be a leg up on the competition and know they pose a threat to us before it's too late.

The truck moved yesterday!

Yup

The boys and I pushed it ahead about 10 inches so we could close the garage door!

I think I am getting over being angry with it (Myself). Maybe I try and figure out what I was working on that caused me to get the hives every time I walked past it!

I second Don's comment, everyone always wants to "borrow" a trailer. Which I never minded, I just hated having to go get them back........
So at one point I am a senior Warrant Officer in the Armee and I own a trailer.

A couple soldiers I know come up and ask "Hey Chief, can we borrow your trailer (Again) this weekend?" This time they are going on another wild goose chase after a CJ-5 carcass I believe.
Mind you, the last time they borrowed it, they busted off both tail lights. So I made them go buy two more over at Grand-Pa's (a local novelty store) and install them, which they did.
This time they want to be good troops, so after using it, they parked it over on a lot the soldiers at Ft. Campbell use to sell their cars at. They did that sometime Sunday afternoon. When I drove over there Monday or Tuesday or whenever it was to tow it home, well, I couldn't find it...

Yea

Someone else needed it more than me!

So what is a senior Warrant officer going to do? Junior NCO's which I am not supposed to be having any personal dealings with, who, btw were always calling me to pull them out of the mud, bail them out of jail, or just happen to come over to my house to spend the night or just eat up all my supper...yea like that

So what could I do? Well, I thought about having another senior NCO buddy of mine just toss them out of the chinook while in flight, but someone would eventually talk and that would be a mess. Write them up you ask? "And what exactly were you doing off duty with enlisted soldiers, Mr. Harward?"
Nope, that was too messy
So I did what I do very well. I called them into my office, and ripped their heads off for awhile. Doing the angry officer routine on them then told them to get out of my office. Then I just forgot about it and lived many years thereafter without a trailer!

So now I have another trailer.

I am limiting my NCO friends these days so that I can manage to keep this one a bit longer!

I'd expect nothing less from an Airborne NCO!
