Not sure Ken’s angle but as a business owner I have always carried cash. If I find a good deal they always want cash & as they say money talks.

I used to buy used machinery, more times than I could count I would show up to buy one piece. I always paid in person in cash. Then as a deliberate habit would make sure there were a lot of hundreds extra to flash & do so purposely. I normally walked away with a ton of equipment dirt cheap. For the record I never lost money on equipment, much of it sat in my shop in storage until someone walked in & needed it worse than I. First time I ever did this I had a 12k 20’ deck over & 4 2 inch ratchet straps. I left that place loaded full and hobbled it over to HD to buy a dozen more, lesson learned......

Yes, cash talks and saves you $$$$.

Even stores like it as cash can be pushed through and CC/debit have a trail.

I'm far from being wealthy, but like those guys mentioned, you can aquire so much more by using cash, and if you run into a great deal on something you want/need, buy it even if you can't afford it. If you wait til it fits in the budget, you lose  money .
I also recommend to never except financial advice from myself... disclaimers and what not

While waiting for the rain to dry up we had to replace the axle in the seed tender. New guy hit it with the planter. We are lucky all he did was bend the spindle and cave in the fender. It could have been a lot worse. Turned around on the end rows and clipped it.
After all that I decided to change oil, fuel filters and clean the radiator out in the ole Duramax. It was running warm and the air conditioning didn't work very well anymore. In hindsight I should have separated the bolts instead of throwing them all in one pile. I had a bunch left over and had to take it back apart to figure out where they went. AC is back to ice cold but I am not impressed with the the procedure to bleed the system on my fass pump. Makes a big dang mess.

Well I didn't do it today, but last night a friend asked if I'd join the VFW post where he's the commander so I went and sat through one of those meetings. Today I went to work.

The base of the seat was to hard.   It reminded me of sitting in the jump seat of the 2008+ Silverado.  The one that has the storage under the seat.

Chaperoned my next to last Senior Prom - 483 students attended - no real drama, classy and elegant dresses and tuxedos.  Waiters commented on how pleasant and polite the kids were which was nice to hear.  What MANY of this generation DONT know is simple etiquette on how to treat their dates!  Tried to suggest or bluntly direct them to open and hold the doors for their date.  Was raining lightly and most were not clued into the concept of dropping them off under the carport first, parking the car and only one of them walking in the mist!  Was truly refreshing to see real classy outfits instead of risqué fashion choices!

So thinking of rewarding myself. Either a nice watch or another truck.

Thinking 1/2 ton gasser crew cab 4wd as a DD and parking the dually at the ranch.

Not sure I like the 2019 and may be able to get a deal on a 2018 Chevy/GMC.

I’d like to be able to tow 7000-8000 without turning 6000 rpms

Thinking 5.3 or would you guys recommend the 6.2

Might even consider cloth seats and cover them with ballistic seat covers so I can remove and wash them

Wondering how the Silverado compares to the Ford F-150 in terms of price and equipment and longevity?

Thoughts ?

Charles, I tried hard to buy a 2017 Silverado. At the time I couldn’t get the dealers to budge on price, tried for three months. At that point I started looking at the F150 w/ 302 then after some research realized the better motor was the 3.5L so I looked at those for a bit & stumbled on a slightly used but clean 2016. It was optioned identical to the Silverado I had wanted to order but at a much better price. I’ve been very happy with it, whether it’s towing or just DD use. Now for the record Norm claims his 15 does really poor on fuel mileage when towing 14k.........

Oh, and the GM dealer came down to my offer three days after I bought the ford. Note: he had the truck I had wanted in stock on his lot the whole time & couldn’t sell it.

Thanks Shawn.  I think GM has some good incentive to move the 2018 with the 2019 coming soon and a new body style.

that eco boost is a powerful engine, just wonder the longevity of the twin turbo v6 turned up that high

Which one did you think rode better over crappy pothole roads?

Wait, is the hippy smoking crack now? A 3.5 better than an LS motor? Bahaha
Next thing you know he's gonna mention a power stroke being better than a dmax...
Shawn have you even looked inside a new chebbie? It's like comparing a Bentley to a pinto (Chevy=Bentley)

Ken, as usual you’re confused. I never compared an ls to a 3.5, however I’m not unhappy I didn’t buy a GM product. The ride between an f150 & Silverado is darn close & im not sure who wins that honestly. The f150 when pulling 6-7k has plenty of power & again not sure who wins that debate. Longevity is still questionable on the 3.5 imo but the f150 does have a stronger frame. As far as interior layout one thing I didn’t like about the GM was the hood & looking over it, f150 to me doesn’t seem as bad. Access to interior controls etc I think is a toss up if you’re being honest. Again just my 2 cents. Charles I currently have 6k or more in GM card rebates but they only ever wanted to let me use $1500 or so when I was trying to buy btw.......

For the record I put 26k miles on it in the last year, recently 3400 miles in 4.5 days. I was comfortable the whole time & didn’t feel overly exhausted from poor ride quality or ergonomics let’s say.

I also read the 3.5 was the most tested motor in Ford history & I have its second version in my truck which is now going on three years of production.

As far as looking inside a new GM one, no not in the last year. Did they change out from using all that cheap fake plastic chrome everywhere that they have been using for the last 20 years? You know the type they use on door handles of denali’s that if you pull too hard break off and you end up with it in your hand? Yep, been there done that & have the t-shirt too....

I don’t have any experience with the new trucks but my 2011 F150 has 80k miles on it now and it drives like a wore out GM truck. It also gets worse fuel mileage, is louder in the cab, and the ride is much more harsh than any Chevrolet or GMC I’ve owned. It’s a shame because its a good looking truck, I like the sunroof, and the cooled seats are wonderful here in muggy Alabama.

Wife and I are going out with another couple for brunch and some shopping. It was my wife's birthday last Wednesday. Mine today. The Buffet at the Hard rock casino in Sioux City is really really good. Looking forward to it. I sold my old 82 Chevy. Guy is picking it up tonight. Sad to see it go My wife and I both really love the square body trucks. But, I am also sick of looking at my grandpas old 54 Chevy truck sitting in the shed not moving. I am going to use some of the money from the sale to hopefully get her back on the road.

This was 5 years ago. The last time I got it out.

With the room done, been working on the garage again. Can almost walk around it again.

Bought another roller cabinet for the mill. Got another Husky that is 24" deep. Other 24s were over 1k and this was just $350. Original was to narrow at 32" and this is 46". 36-42 would have been perfect.

Have a couple friends with the 3.5TT ford. Runs good and good mileage. Even tows great but the mileage dies when towing, really dies. One of them cracked an exhaust manifold in AZ on his first trip.

Waited for rain to break to change oil in my Dmax - wet garage floor with oil involved and on ones back is no fun.  With that out of the way I’ll have to now wait for the grass to dry enough to mow - rain forecast for next couple evenings - I’d have to bail it by then!

After several days of rain, but the grass was like 6" or better and thick. My mower has 32 HP and I was bogging it at times!

After several days of rain, but the grass was like 6" or better and thick. My mower has 32 HP and I was bogging it at times!

You could have ran it at 20 mph versus hydroplaning at 40mph.....
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

Thoughts ?

Just make sure you get the 3.42 gear ratio towing package. the 3.08 and 3.23 options make the transmission hunt for gears constantly in town, and cause it to generate a lot of heat. Dad's trans was smoked in 2 months of general usage, no abuse, just didn't take it out of OD in town. Warrantied out of course, but pretty lame for a new truck. (2016) Both he and my co-worker are very happy now that they've changed them out to the 3.42. makes the trans and motor work together, not fight each other.

Dave, that looks amazing. I was blessed by the gravel fairy and got to spread out 4 yards by hand because the driver didn't want to snag my power lines with his bed. (sissy).

That's my neighbor's Prius. he likes to keep grass out front and come up 1-3 times a year to mow. funny but this last time he came all the way up from south Seattle to mow it was already done for him...

Maybe a sissy but it would most likely been one of the last things he did while working for that company....Place looks nice Tate. Since you like to mow grass, we are only a short drive and a long ferry ride away and have a couple mowers ready to go.

Well boys. Drove a z71 w the 5.3. Wow what a difference in ride quality.

Drove the new l5p 2500 too but it wasn’t that much better than my dually.

Probably keep the dually if I get the gasser

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I know Bob, I didn't want him taking out my power lines either. My forearms wish he'd been gutsier though  I kinda miss the JD and mowing the 1.25 acre of the old place, since now it's about 10 min for the little strip out back. really don't mind mowing his mess to keep the front of the housing looking lived in.
