Or if you want to save some work, just reposition the left one and shift the whole axle so the right one lines up.

How would that work? One wheel out 2 inches more that the other

Anyway I had a nice long post and never submitted it

Yep, easiest is to move the pads, use the kit, done. Shawn wants me to go with deaver springs, love to but a grand for springs!!

I agree with the Deaver spring, you will not regret paying the money.

When your teeth are chipped and your eyeballs look like googly eyes on springs.......$1000 will be well worth it!

I look like that now!

Deaver vs Alcon? (this is fun!)

Not trying to introduce a spirit of devisiveness

but

I had Alcan build me a custom set for my Tundra project that I made into a SAS and those springs worked well for years.

I think Deavers use more, thinner leaves and are actually at the upper end

Check out Atlas Spring too.

My research was showing more complaints on the deavers vs alcons. I did a worksheet on alcons but have not heard back

Have my gears on the way and looking at other things. (spring vs preload steering arm on the 60)

Check these guys out JR. https://www.aalbubrothers.com/ they did the re-arch on my 8" lift springs for the Wagoneer. They are OLD SCHOOL, grumpy, dirty, and the shop usually has a pile of misc stuff laying around, but their tools are always meticulously clean and organized. That tells me all I needed to know. Plus I drive past them on my way home and could check in on the build before they ship out.

If I don't go with a big name there is a local shop here I have used. Valley Spring Works in Dixon and Sacramento Spring too.

No website but I have used them a couple times for both a re-arch and the military add on to my sub build.

Keeping with leafs both for price, ease of install and keeping from getting 10 inches of lift.

I ran across the idea of using sliders instead of the shackles. Reviews look good, really good. They say they help with stability since you don't have that shackle being twisted in turns.

These would also allow me to keep the spring pads as is. Allow a lower front mount with these flat on the frame with maybe just a plate and gusset, or even a bolt on mount?

Anyone used em at all?

I wheeled with a guy last winter who had them on a built Dakota with 38’s

I watched his suspension as he went over obstacles, for leaf springs it did alright....

How about some input here guys as I throw a few things around. 1500 is about done and will have Spartan to drive during this.

Now I can do leafs or coilover, cost is about the same (read below). I will buy some brackets but most will be DIY. Plus the idea is to keep it around a 6 inch or less lift for my 37s.

Coils are more work but should ride better, allow some adjustability both in height and can be rebuilt. Bilstein came out with a new 60mm coilover they say will handle an SAS. (#33-225616) Have to get shocks anyway so stepping to coilovers is like buying custom springs. It would be radius arm, not 4 link.

Leafs will be much easier, really more time removing the IFS than building the setup. I may loose some turning radius most use the 32.5 over the 36.5 axle I have. Many of the kits are for a 38.5 axle so radius may not be a big issue at all.

With leafs it’s once and done, with coil overs you’re increasing your maintenance load. I like trucks to ride like trucks though, I know a foreign concept to you Chevy guys.....

I had to go outside and look, just kidding, but my Denali has leafs. The Denali is what they had in the color I wanted. I finally used the sliding rear window too, Hauled my tree trimmer and it had to sit inside the cab a ways as it is too long for the truck bed.
Sounds like you are getting close JR. What are you going to do with all the room in front of the house when you trim down the heard?

Going to get the front end weighed so I can order my springs and get this thing going.

Yep, going to stay with springs and Deavers. Found a vid using the sliders, think they will be just fine and keep me lower.

You guys are going to love this. As good as it sounds and even with the parts I have gotten, I have decided to put a standard IFS lift on. With what has gone on in the last few months I think I jumped the gun a little fast on the SAS. It sounded cool and would be, but with Spartan still going, house selling, regular dad things, Scouts and looking for land, I can't afford the dmax down for a month or so.

So, I am looking at the Cognito 4-6 lift again. I have the Cognito upper arms and new bearing hubs. Still have the 9.25 IFS housing with 4.56 gears.

So I will gather the rest of the parts as I get Spartan going. Build the front axle and have everything ready for when I do it.

Thanks Ken, they also have the narrowest IFS lift.

Now if I can find a sale (or insider) to get the $1700 price down some

JR, call the supplier to see if they can help. Point out that you are a retired LEO. That may save you some nickles. Work it a little, maybe suggest that you'll write it up on this forum, and invite them to have a look. Never know, if it helps them, it may help you.

I doubt they would care about little ol me, plus shipping and tax. Nice idea though.

Finally got the truck tuned again using PPEI who helped me through a V2 issue. Now I need to get the TCM done.

Shipping is around $200, plus 9% sales tax.

Everyone looks to be priced the same at $1691. Find a sale, get free shipping, no tax. Now that's a deal!

Brad at Calvin’s bit they don’t do hard parts anymore. They just do tuning.

If I were to do another it would be Mike L at Inglewood. Not sure how close he is to you but he’s in CA.

Calvin’s was about 150 miles from me in Sulphur LA and I would drive there for repairs and tuning.  They were good.

The one gripe I have with those type of wheels are the simulated bead lock holds water and grime.  There is no way to drain water out without a rag

Or you go down the road and the tire is way out of balance filled up with crud you went through.

Ordered the lift today, Cognito K0502, 4-6 inch, NTBD from LiftKits4less. Listed for same as everyone else, but they had 5% off, no tax and free shipping. I already have the Cognito upper control arms too.

No shocks yet but leaning towards the Fox 2.0 as they have a special one for this lift. Then probably rotate the rear shock hanger for clearance along with reversing the ubolts like Dons. Think the clearance will come in handy with the land I am getting.

Ended up going with the Fox 2.0 for the front, but I ordered Cognito specked/Deaver rear 4 in springs. More I thought about the rear, I still want my towing. The stock rear shackle is better for towing.

When I remount the rear shock mounts, I will order shocks.

Was at moms house late last night, slept in a little today.

Norm lately is I unload the truck with stuff from moms house, then grad a little thing or 2 and head back over.

Battery is the dead on the Dmax,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It had sounded like it was turning over slower the last week or so. Glad it didn't happen when I was looking at property.

Batteries are 3y7m old, warranty is 3y6y and they don't prorate anymore, so I have to pay full price. So much for interstate battery quality as I just had to replace the wifes battery too. On that I had to pay for the price diff of the new vs the old batter.! So much for free replacement warranty from Costco.

Plan now is to replace them at 3y5m old and sending a complaint to costco.

JR feel your pain. My Duracell’s were just last warranty also.
Then I heard of the Costco scam.
They apparently don’t check battery quality, so trade them in early, even good ones.
My plan is every 24 months. The one I go to just looks at their date stamp.
Nothing more, go get new ones.

That’s my plan now.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

So the lift came in today. This is just a 4-6 NTBD from Cognito, front shocks and rear springs. Looks a little over packed as the one I sold fit into a box 1/3 that size.

Somehow limit straps got added?

There were like 3-4 pieces in those huge boxes. Total waist as it would fit into 1 box easy.

Does look nice though and moved it into the sub for now, less the springs.

Well, getting ready for the lift and doing more towing now so the regear is coming up next week.

Got a Yukon Dura Grip from Tater yesterday. Taking it up to Sac next week to have the rear done. Just cant afford to be down with this more than a couple days.

4.56 should work better and allow 6th gear use again.

Dropped off the Dax at River City Diff in Rancho Cordova this am. Said he will have it done tomorrow.

Called to ask for a pic of it when he gets things setup and a pattern pic. He is already working on it, said he used to work for Randys.

He came recommended by a local diesel shop. Reviews looked good.

Has more axles in there than many yards.

Quoted $400, plus fluids.
