I've been thinking about some type of smoker for a while.  Its not really a matter of if, but more of what and when.  First I was thinking about building something but lately a pellet smoker has been appealing.  I wonder if something like this wouldn't be exactly what I would get the most use out of.

Honestly, I don’t think you can beat the price point on this deal. Green mountain according to Nate is owned by the brother of the guy who originally started Traeger. They essentially have two size smokers & being we don’t plan on cooking for more than 10 people at once ever this smoker had more than enough surface area. It’s also easier to dial in the temperature across the cooking area than the larger unit. I’m sure Nate or one of the other guys can speak to that. Me being a green horn I figured easier is better to start with. As far as the app & what it controls. Just about everything except turning it on & taking out the meat when it’s done. I didn’t believe I wanted it until the sales guy showed me what all it could do. But in layman’s terms it’s a remote control essentially from anywhere your phone can get WiFi & you can monitor the temps as well with it.

If I put “grill” in the title then one of Ken’s relation will probably think it has something to do with shiny stuff on your teeth next......

Nice!  All of the pellet smokers are essentially the same. What really makes the difference is stainless. I would make sure your firepot and heat diffuser tray at a minimum are stainless. Also those igniter rods fail often. Go ahead and get a spare now.  And keep fuses on hand too. You can light the firepot manually in a pinch. I also like using an additional smoke tube to get more smoke in the first two critical hours. Also a smoke hood that forces the smoke to stay in the chamber above the grate has helped me.

My Rec Tec just announced they stopped using hot rods for ignition and went to a ceramic igniter that is supposed to be good for 50,000 cycles. I bought one to retrofit. Will see how that works.

Again all these parts are interchangeable for the most part so you might be able to replace your pot with the SS and ceramic rod later on down the road.

I’m sure Nate told you about a fatty. And no not the green cross kind.

Report back when you get it.

Amen

Love my GMG and it’s super easy to use.  My son starts it when he gets home from school so we have smoked meals when I get home from work.

Tex I don’t think gmg gets stainless innards
