Traveled to Robins AFB for work with our conference in their aviation museum. I saw this and took these pictures for the boss.

Replaced boards in horse trailer floor. Easy except for the last one. It wasn't too hard.

MH-53J Pave-Lo...I've been a place or two in those. Did you get the old unit of assignment? I went to war with the 20th SOS once, although I brought my own helo (A Chinook) The plan was that we hook guys would jump in their Pave-lo's when our hook broke down, but it turned out the other way and I had A/F pilots on my jump seat!

Dang, other side of freezing or 0?

And I thought I had a cool thing follow me home (bought a lab oven), you get a mill!

Zero overnight. Will be dancing both sides of freezing later this week.
Still full on winter for me.

The 53 brings back memories for me. Pops retired from MCAS Tustin (blimp hangers) and the stuff I saw there was crazy. From nukes to the first Cobras.

Watching the 53 flare for landing was crazy, can't imagine being inside for that.

Oven I picked up. Bigger than I really wanted (needed?) but the price was right. Threw on a set of casters from amazon and it's set.

Believe it goes to 300c, and can be vacuum or pressurized if need be. Chamber is 19x20x18 and is HEAVY!

So after two winters the piss poor factory powder coat is toast. It was super light and when I received it found a couple spots at tube weld joints where it was barely covered.

Spoke to my local blast and powder guys. They have a color to match my factory trim in stock and guarantee I’ll get 5+ years out of their job as they lay it on thick. So I used shop jib this afternoon and pulled it and mounts off. Going to get it all blasted and powdered. Including the auxiliary light mounts. Barely fit in the excursion with third row pulled out and second row laid flat.

And what would that have cost to do right the first time? Another $1 of coating.

Right, my cost this go around is $550 which I think is more than fair. They clear it as well.

Well finally tried my Amazon plasma out.
Had to upgrade my garage panel to get more breakers installed.
Well I need some work, but the plasma works well and cuts well.

This is some scrap from work that we just couldn’t sent to the dump. 6” square 18 feet long.

The guy running the torch needs to figure out speed distance and air, but it cuts.

My 55 amp Yeswelder is working great so far.

Got this placed in the garage but need to move back another 4-6in. A pallet jack, really helps.

Been cutting firewood last couple days.
Mid 50’s both days and 30 overnight.

Snow going fast! Two weeks ago it was mid thigh to waist deep.
Today not much over a foot. But lots of water and slush turning up today.

Also kept some five foot long chunks of birch to cut to lumber for my woodworking bench.
I dont think I have quite enough but we shall see when I cut it up.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Made it to the Ridge this Sunday. Really just a run to drop off stuff I have been collecting.

Mid 50s during the day, very nice. When that sun goes down, wow it gets cold fast. Camera shows teens at night.

I like the parking in the compact spots.  All of them. Only thing that would make it better is if it said fuel efficient.

Thats cool. I watch a couple site (fab rats and matts off road recovery) based there. Looks like a fun area. Been trying to take the boys to Zion for some time.

They are getting close to you soon aren't they Dave? TO bad he doesn't post a few road trip pics!

Indeed. Downtime/fun is essential.

Well I went down the road of home made ham.
Found a brine recipe.
Put a pork butt in it for four days.
Rinsed in fresh water for the day yesterday.
Smoked ‘er up last night.

Well….shoulda not dunnit.

Tastes better than it looks.
And 7 1/2 pound ham for just over 20 bucks.

Also started some corned beef.
Likely to smoke half to pastrami and boil other half for corned beef. But not sure. That’s a week from now.

Got all in it and forgot to snap any more pics.
Broke down a whole sirloin tip. Will be 12 pounds for about 80 bucks. Better than 25 bucks a pound at the deli here.

Monday took a steer, 760 lbs hang weight, and 2 hogs, about 350 hanging weight, to slaughter house. 1/2 per cow and 1/2 of a hog is for us.

Thats a huge swing, Utah to WV!!

Haven't had real meat like that for years, yum.

Picked up a set of wheels for the Tahoe and finally got a Bambu 3D printer I ordered over a month ago.

Nice wheels! I think Method may just about have the market cornered!

I have a ton of catching up to do.

I'll have to generate threads and posts but went to SW Utah for jeeping and hiking. We did hundreds of miles of off-road, over 250 on one day alone. I drove a 4XE electric Rubicon...IMPRESSIVE!

We hiked all over and around St George, Hurricane, Snow Canyon, Zion National Park (3X) the Grand Canyon at a nearly inaccessible spot. We visited Indian Petrographs and dinosaur footprints, drove over a waterfall, and Went up and back down sketchy trails and shelf roads. Didn't eat much but when we did it was all stuff I couldn't pronounce and hadn't seen before. Got to know some awesome people, really salt-of-the-earth folks. Met influencers in the LDS church who were great people. Explored two ghost towns and drove around dozens of neighborhoods carved into those red cliffs. I watched mountain sunsets, hiked in an alpine snowstorm, was awestruck by the majesty of Zion National Park, and on and on. After flying home, we loaded up the Gladiator and took off for the mountains of West Virginia where we stayed in the mountain home of a friend who I flew with decades ago. I shared that time with a bunch of other aviators and their wives and even drank moonshine brewed locally.
Wow, what an awesome adventure-packed two weeks I've had...

So what's going on here???????

Sounds like a great time. Should be good pics?

Last time we were at the GC, youngest and I slept outside and an Elk was standing almost over us when we woke up.

Boys and I went to a gun show in Reno at the Nugget, first for them, my first in years, good time.
